If Zeus ever went anywhere near his granddaughters or even his estranged daughter, Hermes would have to do something Very Drastic Indeed. He wanted them as far away from his father as possible, at least figuratively.
"She's very warm and kind," Hermes assured Kat. "Are any of your family around, Victor?"
Victor knew he asked to be friendly, and so Victor answered in the same vein. "My parents died when I was young, and I haven't seen my foster family since I was 17. I was married for a few years and though my wife passed away, I'm still close with her family. They claim me as theirs and vice versa. They're really all I have."
Despite not necessarily getting along with all of his siblings, the idea of not having the ones he did like around, was kind of heartbreaking to Hermes. He frowned and shook his head. "I'm sorry."
"It is what it is," Victor said easily. "I have a lot to be grateful for," and he smiled fondly at Kat.
