She had a point but yet didn't. There was more to it, but it was hard to explain. Not for the first time he cursed John. And to even play with her like this, not even trying to offer something more permanent. "Here," he offered her his shades and nodded, "you're right. Our parents were separated and he was raised by our father and I my mother. It didn't help. After our older brothers passed away, I was left as the heir to the money. I figure John's mentioned we come from money." It made the most sense to explain it like that.
"And our father had a lot of properties, and John never really got any of them. Then I decided to join the military and kept climbing the ranks. John's just always had to hear about what I did, and I didn't have a clue how to run a company." He sighed, "I'm really not meant to sit behind a desk, but I have no choice now. Drives me nuts."
She was terrifyingly young, really. "Congratulations. I'd buy you a present but I don't want John to think I'm trying to get with you."
