When: Thursday Night
Where: Wil's room
Warnings: TBD, you never know with these chappies

Jakob was having a musebaby.

Jakob had never had children in life. One might have said he was too focused on his work or his brother to worry about pithy things like families and one would be absolutely right if they made such a postulation known. Jakob had never wanted a family, beyond the one he had been born with, though he had grown to love Wil's. He had grown to love the fact that he could hand the children back to their father when he was done dallying his time away with them as well.

Now he had a adult daughter, which didn't daunt Jakob so much. He genuinely liked Greta, and he enjoyed the time she spent together. It probably helped that they had a very important shared interest; that being Jakob Grimm. Jakob had no idea what to do with a baby. And so as much as he adored Clio, when she had told him she was having his child, Jakob had gone into a funny sort of stupor and he had remained there for a week. He had taught his classes in a daze, and written his stories in a daze and finally he had come out of it.

Musebaby.

Jakob had to tell Wil.

On his way to his brother's room, Jakob stopped off at the kitchen and he grabbed a mostly full bottle of whiskey, forgetting glasses completely. Then he knocked on Wil's door loudly and he yelled out in German, "Wil, let me in. I am having a crisis!"

Wil had been almost dropping off to sleep over his computer, so when Jakob suddenly thrashed on his door, he startled awake with a yelp, sending a pencil tub clattering onto the floor. He got up, and grumbling a bit, went to open the door.

"What on earth is the matter with you?" Wil replied, also in German, since that was the tongue they spoke when alone. He let Jakob in, and turned to pick up his scattered pencils.

Jakob hardly even realised Wil sounded put out. He just walked into Wil's room and he slammed the door shut while Wil gathered the scattered pencils.

"I have to tell you something, Wil, and when I tell you, you can not laugh."

"Okay..." Wil looked at Jakob, one eyebrow raised. "What have you done?"

Because really, it could be anything. And Jakob looked nervous enough- was that a bottle of whiskey?

Jakob let out a sigh that was half growl and he glared in the direction of his brother, though it wasn't really at Wil, since this wasn't his fault.

"Clio's pregnant," Jakob said, announcing it as if was the end of the world. "With my child."

To his credit, Wil didn't laugh. He stared at Jakob, his eyes round, and his pencil tub slipped out of his hand and clattered across the floor again.

"What??" he squeaked, not quite sure he'd heard correctly. "You what??"

"Well to be fair it wasn't just me!" Jakob half-shrieked back. Then he unscrewed the lid from the whiskey bottle and took a deep swig. "Clio...the Muse of History...is going to have my child. And I- I don't know what to do, Wil!"

"Have you never heard of a CONDOM?? For Christ's sake! Do you have super sperm or something?? Give me that!" Wil swooped on Jakob and snatched the whiskey away, and took a hearty swig of it himself. "Two children in one month, Jake!" Honestly, what was the world coming to!?!

"I was wearing a condom!" Jakob hissed at his brother as the alcohol bottle slipped out of his fingers. "And Greta is 19, that is not two children in a month!" Wil's reaction wasn't actually helping him. He was still two kids down on Wil. God he hoped.

"She's not asking me for anything, but I can't just let her deal with this alone. I can't do that."

"Fucking hell. That female is determined to be a mother, isn't she." Wil shook his head, and paced up and down a bit. "So you're not going to let her deal alone. What does that mean, she's moving in with us? Because I like having our space!" He could not live with her. She was nice enough in small doses, but the woman was clearly dealing with a lot of issues and he couldn't be held responsible for that.

"No! Wil, she has her own place. She isn't moving in anywhere no one is moving in!" Jakob finished at a hiss. "I just feel like I should be involved. Going to appointments. Doing...father things. From here. While she lives there. Wil, I don't know how to be a father, you have to help me."

"Well of course you don't know. Nobody knows how to do all these things! You learn as you go! You managed perfectly well with my kids, I don't know what you're panicking about! If you want to do all of those fatherly things, then do them. Does she want you to be involved? Has she asked for your support?" Wil took another slug of whiskey and passed it back.

"She didn't ask, but she said I could be as involved as I want and after Greta...I'm glad she asked. I don't want to have some child out there I don't know." Jakob took the bottle gratefully and he went to sit on Wil's bed before taking a deep swig.

"I hate babies. I didn't hate yours because they were essentially little yous, but I hate them. They're loud and they smell and they always need things and I have books to write and read and things to do and I do not need a baby. I adore Clio and she is so happy and I am glad for her, but god fucking dammit."

"She didn't ask? Well!" Wil was a strong supporter of fathers being involved the lives of their children, especially considering how happy his own childhood had been until their father died and they were forced to grow up.

He shook his head again and sat down next to Jakob, leaning his elbows on his knees. "I don't know, brother. What's that child going to be like? Clio is... is she fit to be a mother?"

"Wil!" Jakob chastised his brother. "Of course she is. She's had a hard time recently, but she works at Columbia! She'll be fine. And she said I could be involved, but I didn't have to be. She was leaving it up to me. And I want to be, I just don't...I don't want a relationship. I don't want that. So it'll be difficult, but doable. Once it isn't a baby any more, I'll be okay. It's just...babies..." Jakob groaned.

"I just want to be sure! She seemed really messed up!" Wil held his hands up in defense. "I'm just concerned, that's all. Melpomene will take care of her, I'm sure." He patted Jakob on the shoulder consolingly, rubbing his back to soothe him. "Babies don't stay babies for very long. Just a couple of years. It'll go by in no time. Aren't we always saying we don't know where the last 50 years went?" His voice turned reassuring, though this was still the stupidest thing he'd ever heard.

"Yes. Yes, you're right," Jakob said, taking a deep breath. "I can't even- I can't even think. I'm not warm with people like you. I...I have trouble connecting sometimes when it's not about a story." Or sex, obviously. "I'm worried I'll be horrible at this."

"Look. There are a lot worse people than you at dealing with others. We've met people like that before. You're a bit stand-offish, maybe, but you're not the worst. And babies- being a father forces you to connect to at least that one little life. You'll be fiiiiiine." Wil kept rubbing, and stole the bottle with his free hand to take a drink.

"Besides, those Greeks are all insane. Better that you be there to give the kid some balance."

Jakob just shook his head at his brother. He rather liked the Greeks. "Alright. I'll be involved. Oh, god," Jakob said, letting his head drop into his hands. "I'm going to have to loosen up is what I'm going to have to do. You know how overprotective I am." Of course Wil knew. He was usually the subject of Jakob's issues with feeling helpless and thus panicking about every little thing.

"I'm sure you'll loosen up enough to give the thing back at the end of the day." Wil sighed. It was completely out of character for Jakob to get himself into these scrapes. Usually it was Will who went off and had irresponsible sex. "I have a plan. Lets get drunk and write haikus."

Jacob gave Wil and affectionate and grateful look then and he reached forward to pull his brother into a hug. "That sounds like a very good idea. Thank you, Wil."
