He slept longer into the day than he usually did. His nights were quite restless, filled with deep thoughts that never let him rest. A night spent with Eurydice was one that always ended. She'd floated around his dreams many times, but this was the first time he'd held her in the flesh within his arms.
When he came to he expected her to be there, so he could pinch himself at the reality. When he awoke she was not there and he felt his heart drop to the floor. Had he imagined it all? He jumped up, frantic, not recognizing the bed he slept in and hurried to where he heard noise. To his relief Eurydice was there, but it didn't keep his heart from beating out of his chest.
"I thought I'd dreamed you," he said breathless as if he'd been through a panic attack.
