She tilted her head and shrugged, "no. We never have choice. We are tools of Gods, all of us. You find your lot unfair, I tell you join the club. How many mortals have gods toyed with? I am too, their tool, but I do not argue against it. It is my duty to go where the gods wish me to go. I am their plague."
She made a face then, "I just wish less heroes would come and kill me and my blood. All so lofty, thinking you are doing good things. Never stop to consider us, our side. Humans always think they are right."
She pushed the cat off her and rose. "Times are different Oedipus," she leaned down close to look him in the eyes. Sphinx could be considered beautiful, if it wasn't for the fact that her inhumanity hung to her like a second skin. "But we never are. Ask the Gods if they have changed from what they used to be, and you will find all that has changed for them is where they put their thrones."
She could be wise when she wanted to be. Sphinx was clever, but enjoyed when few noticed it. A predator liked being underestimated.
