"She might end up being my height, but she's still going to be mortal, isn't she?" Shesmu watched the little girl and leaned back against the sink with a sigh. He didn't want to think about her dying, not when she'd only just been born. Humans lived such short lives, but Shesmu hadn't ever cared until it was his own blood.
