Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Raiden, Triton and Poseidon (possibly some cameo's by Ariel?)
What: Raiden gets to meet the big bad daddy!
When: Tuesday afternoon
Where: Poseidon's office
Warning: Language at best (hopefully)

Raiden wouldn't show it on her face the worry and nervousness that suddenly hit her stomach the moment they reached Poseidon's office building. In hand she had some Japanese whiskey and a luminous whiskey glass, that lit up blue when held. She had thought long and hard and searched for hours until she could find what she wanted and had it overnighted. She may have spent good hard earned money from her savings that her mother knew nothing about, but she would bring Poseidon something worthy.

Her mother still had no idea that she'd searched for him, part of her now was scared to tell her. Raiden's ideas of him may be shattered after today, but she was willing to take that risk and keep coming back if it meant keeping him in her life. He had already been so much a part of it already, inadvertently or not.

She stood there at the glass doors as Triton opened them, pausing before they reached the elevator. She could sense him before they ever got to the door. His presence was so strong and int excited her as much as it frightened her at that moment. She looked over to her half-brother, a man she hadn't even known existed until a week ago. He'd insisted on going with her though the girl would have gone herself. She was determined, much too determined to meet her father. She gave Triton a small smile, still beaming and being every much her father in her strength.

Triton wouldn't have let her go alone. He didn't trust his father, and for good reasons. He knew Poseidon better then most, and he'd still not gotten over what Poseidon had done to Mel.

He felt bad for the girl though. She was going to get her dreams shattered. At least he'd be there for her.

He smiled to her as they went into the elevator, setting his hand on her shoulder before letting out a sigh as the elevator dinged. "Last chance." With a nod he led her to the office, giving the mermaid a nod. The blond gave the girl a look and said something about 'breeding like bunnies' before waving them in.

Unconsciously protective he went into the office before Raiden, giving a nod to his father. "Father, this is Raiden."

Poseidon looked up from his desk with a groan when Triton appeared, elegant and with that soft face of his. He may have been a chip off the old block but he still had his mother in him. A much softer appearance than Poseidon.

"I didn't ask for you," he said snidely.

Raiden stood just behind Triton, gifts in hand peering around her brother's shoulder. She had that distinct salty-sea smell, eyes bright, but she was still foreign. It was repugnant that smile she gave when she finally popped around to face her father.

She felt her heart skip a few beats, the brightness of her eyes growing. He was handsome. That scowl he wore while intimidating didn't seem to make her flinch in the least.

Poseidon gave Triton an odd glance, pointing at the girl with his pen in hand. "Really?" he said sarcastically. The girl sat the boxes down on the desk as he leaned back in his chair.

He tipped his head to his father and smiled, "too bad Father. I came. I put her under my protection. I keep my word." He set his hands behind his back and smiled to his sister. She was brave for doing this, he had to admit that.

And she had courage to face their father like that. He smiled to her before looking to his father. He raised an eyebrow and pointed to the mermaid outside the door, "I'll mimic you. Really? A mermaid?"

"So yes, really. Raiden brought you gifts. As you asked of her." He motioned to a seat and pulled it out for her. Sometimes he played the gentleman more, just to irritate his father, "have a seat Raiden." Once she sat, he took his own seat. "Go ahead, ask what you like."

Poseidon watched the girl with a perked brow somewhere between amusement, confusion and slight attraction. If he could remember her mother she did have appeal. He twirled the pen in his hand, crossing one leg over the other and straightening his tie.

He gave Triton a hearty laugh glancing toward Ariel from the door. "Well now that you're here Triton you and Ariel can join in on a little sing along. Give her a red wig and some seashells and your set." He would roll his eyes at the blatant chivalry just for his benefit.

Raiden too the seat nodding properly. She pushed the gifts in front of him, daring him sweetly by calling him father. Poseidon leaned up out of his chair and eyed the boxes, shaking the smaller one lightly. Raiden heled out her hands. "Oh no! Please," she stood and demurely took a bow. "Let me." She didn't want him to break them. The first box she opened was the whiskey glass which she beamed as she sat it in his hands. "It turns blue when you touch it."

He gave his father a smile to the comment, "I don't sing father. I'm sure you can fit the bill much better then I can." he smiled to the gifts, finding them rather fitting.

He said nothing though and just watched his father before looking to Raiden, knowing his father would never ask. "I hear you study marine biology, if I'm correct you keep me in mind. I work as a marine biologist in the zoo. If you need an internship or just help, you call on me alright?" He smiled to her, "and next week I'll have you meet our youngest brother, Bernie. I believe his birthday is soon." He said that more for his father's benefit then hers. Maybe he'd remember.

"Are my dreams of you becoming a theme park resident dashed?" he laughed heartily with a sneer turning back to the opened container of whiskey and the glass Raiden had carefully placed on his desk. He gripped the bottle at the neck and positioned it so to read. "Hadn't had that one." A slight point that he was at least pleased with what she'd brought. "If it tastes like shit you'll know." Raiden just stared at him with wide eyes, she couldn't believe he was right there in front of him. She wanted to bounce around the desk and give him a hug but it would be inappropriate. Or would it.

"Would you like a glass?" she asked sweetly, more than ready to pour it for him if it meant he'd keep his attention toward her. Poseidon motioned his hand for her to continue. He sat back in his chair chuckling at Triton's mention of Bernie.

"Is it soon? I can't remember. I'll have to visit soon." He hadn't paid many visits since he'd returned from Hades. When Triton's questions directed back toward Raiden he gave an obvious annoyed look from under his brow.

"You're like what sixteen?" he said looking at the girl, his pen tapping against the desk. "Marine biology hmm, I hear you work under my sister-in-law. How's that going for you?" he snorted. For some reason nothing was bending this kid, it was intriguing and disgusting at the same time.

He gave his father a smirk, "only if you join me father. We'll become a team. We can train dolphins." He glanced to his new sister and made sure she was alright before looking back to his father.

"He's been asking, so you might. He does like you father. You've always wanted a son who took more after you. Veronica will call I imagine." He let Raiden answer the questions, sitting back in his seat and watching the two. He had no objections with fading to the background, but he'd remain. Raiden would need him sooner or later.

"No, you train the little bastards, I'll ride them," he laughed again amusing himself with the banter. The annoying part was it never seemed to sink into Triton just as it hardly did to this girl.

"Yeah, we see what having son's does, you turn into pussies. Maybe this one will actually grow a set of balls." She sat quietly until it was silent or asked a question. She gave Triton pleasant smiles to assure him she was okay though she would admit, if only to herself that this was more awkward than she'd expected.

"Yes," she nodded softly, her hands gently placed in her lap after she poured him a glass. "I've always been attracted to the sea, it seemed only natural. Mother told me stories of you."

"Stories eh?" He leaned in taking the glass which as she had told him, glowed like a fucking blue light when he touched it. "I don't remember much of your mother," he spoke honestly which made Raiden's heart beat a little fast, out of disappointment.

"Not at all?" she said softly.

"Nope. Of what I remember she wasn't the only one that trip. You all looked the fucking same," It wasn't the first or the last time he'd been to Japan. He liked it there.

She nodded again feeling her head drop a little wondering if he'd even bother to ask anymore questions. He tapped the desk after a swallow of the drink which he would conclude wasn't half bad.

"No tears, otherwise I'll have to really make you cry." He pointed a finger toward her with the glass still in hand, "you made my wife leave." His voice was more serious now.

He gave a snort and rolled his eyes, unconsciously mimicking his father, "Father, no one will pay to see you ride dolphins. We both know I'm the more attractive one. OR we can make the mermaid ride them. Wouldn't that be a kick."

He smirked, "oh come now. You liked Theseus just fine." He sighed as the conversation drifted to the girl's mother and he set his hand on her shoulder in support. He had warned her about that.

At the last comment he sat up straight, "no she did not. Stop blaming others for your own mistakes father. Raiden did not make mother leave. Your children keep showing up. First Bernie, now Raiden. They are not to blame." He sighed, "what made mother leave is hte pain in her heart. You alone can fix that one father. Work on being less of a dick, and give me and Kymopoleia another sibling."

He gave Raiden a smile, "he's going to have to pay me to keep playing marriage counselor. It's not your fault dear. My mother doesn't have it easy. Give her time."

"You got your looks from me you dolt, don't throw that around as an excuse," he near snorted into his own glass peering over Triton to catch Ariel go by. "Now that, I would pay for. Slip on that tail and she'll draw in a crowd." He gave Ariel a fake wave.

"Theseus had his good points."

Raiden kept very quiet, her eyes jumping again when Triton interjected. She hadn't realized, she just stared at him with a nod. Then Poseidon said his piece.

Poseidon sat the glass down, surprisingly not jumping in with anger, part of Triton's charm. He kept things calm, something that at times Poseidon wanted to boot him for.

"Think giving her a kid is going to please her?" Poseidon knew the answer to that, even though he spoke sarcastically, he knew that's exactly what it meant. "Woman is a hard up jealous bitch, it's a wonder she hasn't found this one yet." He sat back in his chair, twirling his ring around his finger catching Raiden's eyes. Those bright, unique eyes.

She kept that stare willing him with everything she had to notice her more than just the half-godling she was. Poseidon got comfortable again.

"What is it you want from me?" he asked her honestly. She looked to Triton then back to Poseidon almost shocked that he'd even asked her.

"...Nothing," she said softly, daring to reach her hands onto the solid desk just to be a little closer. "You've been a part of me all my life. I want a father."

He grinned, "I have mother to thank for most of them father. Not you." He hardly granted his father anything, let alone thank him for the good looks he had.

He raised an eyebrow, "of course not. And she's not that jealous father. You go around, sleeping with everything. Monogamy isn't horrible you know. I'm perfectly happy being faithful to my girlfriend. Maybe you should try that. Work on your relationship rather then blame others." He gave his father an even look and removed his hand from Raiden's shoulder. "And mother isn't going to hurt Raiden. She's not petty."

He raised an eyebrow to that, as that really didn't compute. Poseidon didn't know how to be a father.

"Keep telling yourself that, remind yourself who you look the most like." He finished off what was left of the drink Raiden had handed him and pushed it aside.

He snorted at Triton's attempted to be marriage counselor. "I think you need to change your profession, kid. You get into the counseling role quite well." His voice was slightly annoyed, but still as the boy continued his cool was kept if only because of his presence alone. "I don't need you telling me what to do," he flicked his pen toward Triton's lap, "I've made more effort than you give me credit for." It had taken him centuries to own up to that.

Raiden felt like she was in the middle of some family argument that she wasn't sure she should be a part of.

Poseidon raised his attention to the girl's comment doing his best to not fall out of his chair. Was this little sprite for real? "Dear fucking Zeus, this is what I get?" He'd never played father before to any of his children, he was simply a figurehead and nothing more. He came in when they were offended or abused (like Polyphemus at the hands of Odysseus) but he wasn't a father. Bernie was the closest thing that he'd come to in a long time.

Raiden's brows crossed, she wasn't about to become nasty or vindictive, but she would stand up for what she had always wanted. "I want you as a part of my life. You've always been there, why deny me that?" She was bold, very bold, and it was enough to make Poseidon go quiet.

He shrugged, "only because I've been trying to get you to listen since I was little. I think the first thing I ever told you was 'stop being a dick to mother'." He caught the pen and raised an eyebrow, "and she left. May I remind you that of the two of us, I've never had a lover leave me? So I imagine, you do need me to tell you what to do, or mother stays away."

"You can't deny her that father," he smiled to Raiden's bold courage. A true daughter of the sea, this one. "No one is asking you to do fatherly things. But you're there for Bernie, you can be there for Raiden." In a way Poseidon had never been there for Triton. It hurt, but he just brushed it away. No need to wish for empty dreams.

"Aren't you just sweet," he rolled his eyes, leaning back in his chair so that it creaked under his weight. "Such the ladies man," he tapped his hand against a stack of files. Poseidon loosened his tie a little, Triton's words sinking in a little too heavy.

"Bold little bitch arent you?" He perked his brow, pleased in some fashion that Raiden hadnt broke down in tears yet. He cleared his throat, keeping a strong eye on the lithe and tall little halfling who still held her head up even when struck her with heavy words.

"Please," Raiden said hoping in some small way there was a chance not all of his good points were lost, the good points her mother had fabricated for her. Her voice was strong and demanding in her own way. "I won't let you ignore me either way," she added.

He gave his father a mimic of the grin Poseidon could carry, "you imply I restrict myself to women." Sometimes he liked ruffling his father's feathers, he really did. Especially when he was giving Raiden so much shit.

"My point remains. My children were always pleased to see me, and I never had complaints." He raised an eyebrow, "language father." Sighing he glanced to Raiden, giving her a smile.

"I like you, don't let him squirm away. He's a slimy bastard, but you got him. C'mon Father, rise to the challenge. Or you to old for that now?"

"Stop showing off you little prick," he said under a thick and flat brow, his voice peaked with annoyance. "Here you thought you were the favorite," he snorted straightening up when Raiden slinked to the side of the desk. She stared at him in wonderment. She had him locked.

"I'm not too fucking old," he started, "not this week at least," remembering back when he'd spent two weeks a near cripple out of the Hobbit.

"Is she smiling, seriously?" She looked ready to pounce him, arms circling around his neck.

"Almighty Zeus I should have just screwed a whale." This cheeriness thing was uncomfortable.

He chuckled, "only when I have a point Poseidon." He liked getting his one ups over his father. It didn't happen that often. "And goodness, me the favorite? Never. I'm the one who calms you." To prove his point he set a small conch on his father's desk.

"You're ancient father. And you're still intimidated by a girl half my size." He laughed, "you have. You were very drunk. Never tell your son about the things you did 'back in the day'. In this case, it always bites you in the ass." He tipped his head and rolled his eyes, "she has you father. And she wants a hug. You can manage one of those. I'll even tell mother how much you accomplished and how much you're growing. And send her flowers. Get her her favorite."

Poseidon looked at the shell on his desk with a heavy eye. "Go play with the fish outside my office, I want to talk to your sister without you hovering," he waved at Triton. He pushed Raiden off after her arms squeezed him for all of two seconds.

"Put your disgustingly long-legged self back in that chair," he pointed sharply at Raiden. He wasn't going to let Triton flaunt his interests in his face. So the girl got his attention, like Bernie. If all halflings were going to be this useful he'd have had even more before now. Then maybe he'd have his own army to flash in Zeus' face.

He looked between his father and Raiden. The shell would keep him calm. He rose and smiled to Raiden, "I'll be right outside, and just so you know father, she gets the long leggedness from you." He set his hands in his pockets before walking out of the office, keeping the two in sight.

Raiden gave Triton a nod assuring him with her that she would be fine. She took her seat, hands in her lap as she still sat too close for comfort with a wild-like excitement. She could feel the sea coming off of him, like a vortex of wind seeping from your feet through your body. It was intense, but just as she had stared at the tsunami with wonderment, her father was very much the same amazement.

Poseidon watched her, elbow on the desk, finger propped against his chin. He hoped Ariel would wander off with the boy so he didn't have his son on surveillance. He wasn't used to having children around, after centuries without them springboarding out of the ground he had had his time with Amphitrite pretty much to himself, controlling times to the best of his ability. When things changed it was when Poseidon became territorial. He didn't like when his power slipped, when he wasn't the king he was before---but something in this bright-eyed kid's face reminded him as much as it repulsed him. She was too damn cheery for his liking.

He threaded his fingers together. He wouldn't bend her just yet, she still had some airing out to do. "Don't think I'm going to play along with this nicely. You're a tough one," his eyes leveled with hers, "but I'm not going to be the happy addition to your little puzzle here."

Raiden nodded. She wasn't going to cry, she wasn't going to show fear even if it trembled beneath her at the very sound of his deep voice. It made her shiver.

"I'm not asking for anything, Otousan." She stood again,"just your company. Your spirit. To be who I am to be with you here."

"Out," he instructed, "or I'll bend you over and break all those girlhood dreams of the way a father should behave." He was serious and she could sense it. She stepped back slightly, kissing him on the cheek before heading toward the door.
