WHO: Bridget and David
WHAT: An early Christmas present
WHEN: Tuesday evening
WHERE: Their apartment
WARNINGS: Unerring cuteness?
Bridget had been in a state of wedded bliss since returning home from her honeymoon in November. She had patched things up with her sister, to some extent, and she had spent two wonderful weeks in Wales with her wonderful husband. Everything was working out, and she didn't even mind any more that her job had fallen through. She had faith that everything would work out. Funny what being married to a saint would do.
There was something that had been niggling at the back of her mind, however. And now that she was sure, she had to tell David. And, she hoped, it wouldn't break David out of his wedded bliss.
She went to find him, locating him in his garden which was where she usually found him. She had carried Bryn up with her, and she set the cat loose in the greenhouse and then stood to smile at her husband as the cat wound around her ankles. "Having fun with your sleeping plants?" she asked softly.
David looked up at Bridget with a fond smile. "It feels like- you know when a cat is sleeping, but when you stroke them, they lift their heads with a purr and then go back to sleep? It feels a little like that," he said, dusting the dirt off his hands and standing up. He kissed Bridget gently, and then turned to take his gloves off and put his things away. "Are you alright? Did you need something?"
Bridget loved the way he described the sleeping garden. It was beautiful. "I don't need anything," she said, smiling up at him. "But I do have some news and really, I think you should sit down while I give it to you."
"Sure." David's brow creased with concern, wondering what it could be. He lead Bridget to the pair of wicker chairs that sat in the sunniest spot and sat them both down. "What is it?"
Bridget smiled widely at her husband and when he sat them down she took his hand. "No need for worry, darling. It's wonderful news. Dewi, I'm pregnant."
David nodded, then did a double-take and his mouth moved up and down a bit wordlessly for a moment. "You're what? Oh honey- So-" He spluttered a bit, flummoxed. "Wwwwww... When?"
Bridget reached up to touch David's face gently. "Seven weeks. I confirmed it with a doctor this morning. I wanted to make sure before I made you make that face," Bridget said with an amused smile. "You're going to be a father."
David just sort of stared blankly at Bridget. The possibility that this could happen hadn't actually occurred to him, though he knew that other immortals had had children. His first instinct was to tell her that she was mistaken, it wasn't possible, he couldn't have fathered a child. Slowly though, he started to think about what that would mean for them, and surely, surely this was a blessing from the Lord! It wouldn't have happened if the Father didn't approve of David's actions. Didn't God send his only Son to Earth as a sign of his blessing? This had to mean that God approved of David's actions, and this was the sign. David sighed with an exhalation of relief and happiness, feeling a final weight lifting off his shoulders.
"Oh Bridget," he said, pulling her into a hug and then kissing her firmly. "You are amazing."
Bridget laughed and she jumped up, hugging David back. "I didn't do it all myself!" she said, amused. "So you're happy?! I didn't know it would be this soon, but I am thrilled!"
"I- yes, yes I'm happy!" David laughed, almost giddy on the suddenness of it. "I'm happy for us. Should we wait to tell everybody? Or wait?" David didn't really believe anything bad would happen during the pregnancy though, so why wait for the safety of the first trimester being over?
Bridget didn't want to wait. She didn't care about waiting for the second trimester. She was pregnant and she wanted to tell the entire city.
"You should tell your brothers! They'll be so excited! Imagine George and Patrick's faces!"
David grinned at the thought. "They'll be so shocked... mainly at the thought of me actually being capable of that," he said, then kissed her again. "I have mentioned recently that I love you?"
Bridget shook her head in amusement. Of course David was capable of it. "They will make wonderful uncles," she said with a smile. "And I love you too, Dewi." Bridget leaned in to kiss him deeply. "I am so excited!"
It would probably take a little while for David for it to sink in properly, but at the moment, he was happy. "God has blessed us," he said, holding Bridget's hand tightly. "I will pray our thanks to Him."
