Who: Apollo & Thalia
What: Comedy goes to hang out with her brother
When: Sunday afternoon
Where: Apollo's place
Thalia had been back in New York for about a week, and was doing her best to try and get back into a normal routine. It was kind of hard, considering she'd gone half-crazy only a few days ago, but she was doing her damnedest. It helped that she had her appointment with Cocytus to look forward to.
But in the meantime, she was going to go and chill with Apollo. He was low pressure, and that was exactly what she needed right now. And not wanting to be a bad guest, she'd picked up a pizza for them to share. When she arrived, she found the door open, just like he'd said, and she stepped inside and closed it behind her. "Musagetes?" she called out, toeing off her shoes.

Apollo was kind of glad to have the day off, although he really hadn't requested it himself. After snapping at some sneaking idiot with a camera (he was being pretty obvious about his sneaking, so Apollo didn't actually feel too bad for him), his manager had told him to go home and cool down, at least until the special party had left the hospital.
He'd managed to keep himself busy, still worked up over his spat with Dionysus, and spent most of his morning putting away all of Cherie's things that he'd left lying about after she'd stayed with him. His apartment had gone back to looking like a normal bachelor pad, sparsely furnished, with very little color or decoration. His guitars (including the odd mandolin and lyre) lined one of the far walls.
Hearing his sister's voice, he leaned out from the kitchen, a smile brightening his face. "Thalia." He noticed the box in her hands, and his smile widened. "And your brought food. You're perfect. Do you want a beer?"

She set the box on the table, a smile of her own spreading across her face. "Darn right, mister," she said, poking him lightly in the chest. "And yes, please. That'd be great."
"So how are you?" she asked. "Apart from having the day off."

"I suppose I'm all right." He leaned into the fridge for a moment, rummaging around. When he re-emerged, he had his fingers looped around the necks of two bottles. "It's better that I'm here instead of there, you'd probably be bailing me out of jail instead of having a drink."
He popped the top off of one bottle against the counter, sliding it over to Thalia before doing the same to his own. "And, of course, the obligatory monthly family issues." He took a long, slow drink. He was still a little more on edge than he wanted to be. "But it's nothing new. What have you been up to?"

"Should it ever come to that, you can fall me," she told him, taking a long pull from her beer. "Can't have you in the slammer, we need you out and about."
"If it's not one thing, it's another," she sighed. "Anything in particular, or just the same old crap?"
She sighed again. "I went down to Florida for a week. Slept, wrote down everything in my head, set most of it on fire, drank wine, danced around the flames. My head was not a good place to be last week."

"I'm too pretty for jail," he said lightly, using his free hand to reach up and grab plates from a cabinet. "Dionysus has been prodding old wounds and sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. So, really, just being Dionysus. I might have laid into him a little more than necessary." But it wasn't something he'd ever apologize for.
He cut his eyes to her. "It doesn't sound like it was. But it sounds cathartic, at least? Either it worked, or you're very good at hiding things."

"You are," she agreed with a nod. "Good thing you're here and not there, then."
She pushed some hair out of her eyes and sighed. "I like Dionysus, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I'm surprised someone hasn't slapped him yet. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta to."
"It sucked," she said bluntly. "My whole mind was black and tangled and boiling. Everything came down on my head at once. I miss the Korybantes even more this time of year, and I know it's really unlikely I'll never see them again. I had to get everything out before I lashed out unfairly at the people I love."

"He's my brother," he said, "of course I love him. We used to get along so well, but now I think we're just too different. So, it gets difficult."
He lowered himself down onto a stool, focused on the bottle as he turned it in his hand. "It's sometimes hard to hold out hope that we'll see them again. It's hard to think about. I miss them, too."
It wasn't a secret that Apollo had sired many children. He was brash, and powerful, and did what he wanted without thinking of consequences. But he'd also played favorites, just like any other Olympian. The children of the Mousai tended to receive special attention from him. Whether the attention was good or bad was another matter, but he liked to think he treated the children he'd had with Thalia with some kindness, at least.
"I'm sorry." He gave her a crooked smile, placing a hand on hers. "I understand, just...tell me next time, okay? I don't like having to worry about you."

"He's mine, too," she said. "And he was always fun, but sometimes he just doesn't know when to stop."
She stared into her beer. "They say Hope is sometimes crueler than her brother," she said quietly. "Making you believe things that'll likely never happen. But that doesn't stop me from clinging to it anyway." She looked up at them. "I remember thinking, 'How am I going to raise seven boys? How is that even going to work?' But you were there. And that helped."
She squeezed his hand tightly. "OK," she agreed. "I don't like it when people worry about me either. I hate doing that to them. But I'd gotten really good at faking like I was OK, and I just...couldn't do it anymore. It felt like I was going to shatter." She let out a great breath of air. "I'm going to hug you, just FYI," she added, before doing just that.

Apollo returned the embrace, tucking her head in under his chin. "Those boys were all you; I'm just glad I didn't ruin them. And I'm glad you're still in one piece. We don't want to lose anyone else." I don't want to lose anyone else, he wanted to say, his fingers curling in Thalia's hair.

Thalia let out a choked little laugh. "Hush you, like that was ever a possibility," she said. "And it'll take more than a brush with madness to get rid of me, so don't worry, I'm not going anywhere." She heard both what he was saying, and what he wasn't, and it made her glad.
