Who: Lucas & Mothra (Open to Winter, too) What: Lucas drags Mothra around the city. As you do. When: Tuesday afternoon/evening-ish Where: ...Around? Warnings: Creepy cryptids being creepy, mentions of cannibalism and eating dogs, language, TBD (Also, I meant to post this last night, but my body was all, 'lolnope, 19ish hours of sleep instead! D:)
Lucas had been in the city for a couple weeks, and for most of that time, he'd had Mothra with him. He'd had no idea what to do with him, but he also knew he couldn't let him wander the streets by himself, if he was confused by his surroundings, he could only imagine what Mothra's reaction must have been.
So whenever they had to change hotels (and that was mostly because of him), he took the other man-shaped monster with him. He tried to teach him how to use the computer in the evenings, because they had a lot of free time on their hands, and generally things were OK. (And by OK, he mostly meant they didn't have the police after them for murder and a bunch of missing dogs.)
He was currently sitting at the little table in their hotel room, human knuckle bones in a little pile in front of him. "You know, people used to read fortunes in what they said were dragon knuckle bones," he remarked idly. "You think it'd work with human ones?"
whispered_wings 2012-01-03 04:38 pm (local) (link) While he was happy to sit amongst the tree's of the big park and on the bridge, he liked having company more. Mothman had always been alone, and not even out of choice. Having Lucas there was such a good thing, even if half the time he didn't know how to communicate anything.
But he got fed and could stay warm, and occasionally got to freak people out by staring at them, so he was happy.
He'd curled up on a chair, watching the computer. He'd learned how to use the mouse (a huge thing for him) and only ever looked t one page, but he liked it so far. When Lucas spoke he looked up, then shrugged. He disliked anything to do with prophecies, but that was his thing. "Could. Maybe." (Reply to this)(Thread)
newjersey_devil 2012-01-03 05:16 pm (local) (link) He flicked the bone into the air with two fingers, catching it before it clattered to the floor. "I doubt I'd have enough patience for it anyway," he said, sweeping the pile into a bag and tossing it into the trash. "Or I'd be wildly inaccurate. Fuck fortune telling."
He kicked his feet up onto the table, slouching in his chair. "I'm bored," he moaned, tipping the chair almost all the way back and staring at the ceiling. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
whispered_wings 2012-01-03 05:24 pm (local) (link) He tended to agree that fortune telling wasn't exactly the greatest thing, but that was because so many thought he could do it. When Lucas said he was bored he gave the other creature an odd look, unsure of how to fix that.
He motioned to the computer, tapping on the screen. "This is fun," for him anyway. Especially now he'd learned the things on the screen couldn't come out. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2012-01-03 05:50 pm (local) (link) "The vast and mighty internet is usually good for some entertainment," he agreed. "But then again, a lot of people in there seem like they were born yesterday, or lacking a brain, or both. 4Chan is a place to be avoided at all costs. What page are you looking at, anyway?" whispered_wings 2012-01-03 05:54 pm (local) (link) He didn't really understand what Lucas was on about, but he didn't really need to. He trusted Lucas and it was one of those things that he just took as truth. "dogs with words." He'd learned he couldn't get to them, but it was still funny. Shrugging he sat up, "out?" If Lucas was bored maybe wandering would be alright. He trusted Lucas not to get him utterly lost. "See bridge?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2012-01-03 06:02 pm (local) (link) He shrugged. "Sure," he agreed. "Beats sitting around here all night. And TV is only entertaining for so long. See if I can find something to eat." He seemed to be always hungry lately, sometimes it really sucked.
He picked up his jacket from where he'd tossed it on the bed, tucking a key into his jeans pocket. "From what I remember, the bridge is east of us, so let's find a train that goes east." He patted his jacket. Yup, the map was still there. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
whispered_wings 2012-01-03 06:06 pm (local) (link) He got up when Lucas did, glad to know he had found something useful. Not everything always was. He grabbed a jacket and after a bit managed to get it on. He'd be more comfortable in his actual form, but it seemed unwise to do it.
Nodding he followed Lucas. He could find the bridge by walking towards it, or flying, but Lucas had suggested this so this it would be. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2012-01-03 06:41 pm (local) (link) He closed the door behind them both, pulling the map out. He wished he could just shift and use his wings too, but he preferred not getting shot at. And the train would just save them a lot of walking. He told Mothra all of this as they descended the steps into the subway station. "Unless you'd like to get a bullet somewhere really painful," he muttered, as they took their seats on the train. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
whispered_wings 2012-01-03 07:01 pm (local) (link) He followed, listening but not really saying anything. There wasn't much to add to that. Lucas was right, seeing Lucas had spend more time around humans then Mothman had. He shook his head as he sat down, curling closer to Lucas. "Lots of people." He stayed away for more then the fact that he tended to freak them out. A large crowd tended to scare him. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2012-01-03 07:19 pm (local) (link) "One of the most populated cities in the country, if not the whole world," he affirmed, the irony not lost on him that he wasn't being backed away from in terror. "Should thin out in a bit, they're going home to the city, and we're going to Brooklyn." His stomach growled, reminding him that apart from playing tourist, he needed to find someone for dinner. "Yeah, yeah," he muttered at it. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
whispered_wings 2012-01-03 07:36 pm (local) (link) His watching usually took place from a distance, and too many people around him didn't make him comfortable. He curled a bit closer to Lucas, scowling. "Don't like this." But he knew he was safe enough. He distracted himself by playing 'look for food' for Lucas and motioned to a lonely looking human. "There. Don't go. Stay." He'd only just realized that, "too many." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2012-01-03 08:18 pm (local) (link) Lucas zeroed in on the lonesome woman rising from her seat. "Perfect," he said, his lips curling back over sharp, pointed teeth. "Well come on, this is our stop," he said, getting up and following her out, but not close enough to spook her.
"Yeah, there are too many," he said, sotto voce. "But that just means I get to eat, and over half of them have pets, so you'll get to eat too. Win-win for everyone, but mingling with them isn't exactly high on my to-do list either."
Normally, he liked to stalk his prey and play with them a little, but tonight, he just didn't have the patience for that. She was short and willowy, and he overpowered her easily, dragging her into an alley and biting into her neck. He ate quickly, keeping an eye out for passersby at the alley mouth, but either this part of town sucked, or people just didn't care.
Wiping the blood from his lips, he zipped up his jacket over his spattered T-shirt, casting a quick look around. "Lovely," he said, baring his teeth in a grin. "Still want to go to the bridge?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
whispered_wings 2012-01-03 08:42 pm (local) (link) He stayed close because he'd be honestly freaking out on his own. The humans did nothing good for him, and unlike his friends they weren't food. He didn't have claws or anything to defend himself with. Nodding, he followed, keeping close to Lucas.
"Dogs only," he was even quieter then usual, but followed. When Lucas killed and fed he stood guard at the entrance of the alley, because it's what he did for Lucas in return for snacks and friendship. He'd do the same for Winter.
When Lucas finished he nodded to the question. He really liked bridges, "up bridge. Good view. No more hungry?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2012-01-03 09:05 pm (local) (link) "I know, man," he said. "I'm just saying, over half the humans have some kind of pet, it's safe to assume a big chunk of those are dogs. In suburbia, you'd never go hungry."
"No more hungry," he confirmed, absently flicking some blood out of his hair. "I swear, for some reason, feels like I'm eating all the fucking time. But whatever. Bridge. We'll go up to the top, it'll be awesome. I have fucking missed flying, let me tell you." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
whispered_wings 2012-01-03 09:30 pm (local) (link) He made a face to the suggestion. "Too many people. No trees. No hiding." He talked more to Lucas and Winter, but they could understand him. Humans just couldn't.
He shrugged, not too sure what would be the cause of that. "Flying is fun." Smiling happily he led the way to the bridge. He'd long since found all the good routes to get there. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2012-01-03 09:45 pm (local) (link) He snorted. "Like either of us would ever blend in in suburbia. We practically scream 'creepy'. Well, I do, at any rate." He shrugged. "'S probably why I've lived most of my life in a forest."
He grinned, still feral looking, but probably the closest he'd ever get to a real smile. "It is that," he said, trailing after Mothra, absently flexing the muscles in his shoulders where his wings attached in his true form. It would feel so good to be able to push off the ground and just soar for a little while. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
whispered_wings 2012-01-03 10:07 pm (local) (link) He gave Lucas an odd look, not thinking he was creepy at all. But then Mothra didn't really judge nor notice how mortals even avoided him, so he wasn't really the best judge of character.
He was quiet for most of the walk, truly smiling once they were at the bridge. Once at a location where fewer mortals would see him he let the mortal mask slip and flew up in his true form to sit on the highest beams. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2012-01-03 10:24 pm (local) (link) He took off his jacket and stuck it in a bush, making a note to come back for it later. It used to be that he had to change fully to be able to use his wings, but with enough practice over the years, he'd been able to draw out the wings without changing all the way. The shirt was no great loss, he could always get another one.
He rose on the currents, flapping his great wings to propel him to the top of the bridge, settling himself neatly next to Mothra. No one had noticed, or at least, no one had started shrieking, so that was a plus. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
whispered_wings 2012-01-04 12:42 am (local) (link) He felt much better in his actual skin then he did in the disguise. And no one could see them up here. He could not smile though so he just nodded his head and looked down to watch the people below. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2012-01-04 10:16 am (local) (link) He nodded in return, folding his wings behind him and finding his balance easily atop the towering height of the bridge. This was the first time he'd been up here, and the view of the lit up city was pretty amazing, he had to admit. He could see for miles, and in every direction there were lights and cars and the shapes of people walking. It was a sprawling mass of humanity, seen from a vantage point few would ever get to.
