Who: Thalia and Open What: Thalia decides to go for a wander When: Thursday afternoon Where: NYC cafe
There had been a lot on Thalia's mind lately, a lot of emotions swirling around inside her head. And it wasn't like she could tell anyone, she could barely even admit it to herself. And the more she sat at home, the more the walls seemed like they were closing in around her. So with hardly a thought, she grabbed her coat and headed outside.
The wind hit her first, amplifying the cold so that it cut like a knife. But she pushed through, heading the first direction she thought of, without really thinking about it. The only problem was, the more she walked, the more she thought. Her jealousy, her guilt over said jealousy, the empty place in her heart that would never be filled because her sons would never return to her. Contrary to popular belief, Comedy got sad, too.
After walking about a dozen blocks, she was starting to feel her face go numb, so she ducked into the nearest cafe for some hot tea. Taking her mug and adding some honey, she took a seat at a table by the window. Even when she was down, she was what she was, and she did like to people-watch. Maybe she'd see someone interesting.

[info]a_freudian_slip 2011-02-03 06:16 pm (local) (link) Track This The problem with running a business was still having to deliver things that couldn't be sent by mail. Big orders for the clients that seemed to like this part of town. He'd been to New York a dozen times before finally staging the move from Boston. Even if it seemed a hermit couldn't enjoy the public, even he got cabin fever.
Oedipus felt better about this cold weather, it kept the sun out of his eyes. It didn't keep the bright lights from shining through once he stepped into the cafe. It was semi-busy, but not enough to cause him to have a claustrophobic moment. He needed a strong coffee and a few minutes then back to his humble abode.
He hadn't expected to run into anymore immortals, but like with himself it seemed this city was a magnet.
[ooc: hope this is okay. I figured he met the Mel, this would be amusing too, if not let me know! Needed to get him out more.]

[info]makethemlaugh 2011-02-03 06:42 pm (local) (link) Track This Thalia sat up a little straighter when she felt the other immortal enter the cafe. Greek, definitely, but not one she knew. Which she was kind of grateful for. She didn't really want to have to make awkward small talk with any of her relatives and pretend everything was OK.
She started to look around, seeing if she could catch a glimpse of him (or her), and noticed a man standing not terribly far away. That had to be him. She tilted her head, trying to think of who it might be. And then gave up rather quickly, with the sheer number of immortals running around the city, it could literally be almost anyone.
She grabbed her tea and got up, making her way over to him. "If you ever come in again, I recommend the chamomile tea, with a little honey," she said, holding up her mug. "It's really good, and soothing too. Also, hello." She finished up with a tiny smile.
[ooc: totally cool! And I know what you mean about getting them out more, Thalia's been really quiet.]

[info]a_freudian_slip 2011-02-03 06:52 pm (local) (link) Track This He jumped lightly as she spoke not expecting anyone to really notice he was there. Oedipus wasn't nearly as skittish as he had been before, but there was still a hint and a fast beat to his chest when he felt someone else.
She was Greek, but she didn't seem familiar, then again that never meant much. He could have pulled out a no crossing sign, but he swallowed back the urge out of plain curiosity. Curiosity which was always his downfall.
He cleared his throat. "Hello," he said in a voice that was a little too pitched in squeak than it should have been from the usual raspyness. "Do...I know you? Or are we throwing out introductions here?" he waved his hand around. "Greek?" Another squeak to his voice.
[ooc: okay! awesome! Didn't want to get too ahead of myself.]

[info]makethemlaugh 2011-02-03 06:58 pm (local) (link) Track This She smiled a bit, trying to set him at ease. "As to whether you know me, probably not. But you've likely heard of me. I'm Thalia. And yes, most definitely Greek."
She sipped her tea. "Sorry if I startled you, but I wasn't expecting to see another immortal while I was out and about today. Call me curious." She gave a tiny shrug.
"So how about you?" she asked. "Greek, yes? That's all I could figure out. You can totally tell me to back off, though. I don't wanna be nosy."

[info]a_freudian_slip 2011-02-03 08:12 pm (local) (link) Track This Oh great another muse, could this seriously get any more creepy? "Yes, I'm afraid I couldn't rid that vibe if I tried." And he had. He was just less reluctant to give his name. Unlike Mel, this one didn't know who he was right off the bat and he was debating whether or not it was better that way. He wasn't going to do handshakes, that just got a little touchy-feely.
"They call me Rex now, but..." his voice just sort of lingered in the air for a bit as if the words themselves hurt to pull out of his mouth. "Oedipus," he said in a quick coughing motion before taking a seat and downing some of that strong coffee. Apparently it wasn't strong enough.

[info]makethemlaugh 2011-02-03 11:31 pm (local) (link) Track This She laughed a little, but not at him, and told him so. "It's just funny you phrase it that way. We're all just so...Greek. Like nothing else in the world, we are. Which is both good and bad, I think. Me, personally, I know I'm odd. And that's fine with me."
When he gave his name, it didn't really bother her that much. She knew the story of Oedipus, most people did, but she'd heard worse. And who was she to sit in judgment? Especially when Zeus was her father, and, though she'd never say so, kind of an ass.
"Nice to meet you, Oedipus," she said, sliding into the seat across from him.

[info]a_freudian_slip 2011-02-04 03:19 pm (local) (link) Track This He looked at her oddly at first with that laugh. He'd become accustomed to people using him as the butt of their worst jokes. "If being a little odd was all I needed to worry about I wouldn't camp out in my apartment from the rest of the world half the time." He felt like he had a sign stamped to his forehead that just attracted all the wrong people. That was Freud's intervention. Man was a loon who screwed up a man that may have been just fine without the interest. "Freud had a field day, otherwise I may have been more social." He was still awkward in situations like this. There was a time the backwoods of North Carolina had been the best living option.
She still stuck around which counted for something. The greeting threw him for another loop. The muses had a way of mingling it seemed if he'd learned anything from running into Mel not too long ago.
"I would say likewise but..." he paused knowing he still needed to keep his manners. This was the kind of thing that got him in trouble in the first place. Besides there was some radiant glow about this one. "You too," he hoovered with his cup wondering just how long she was going to feel like a socialite.
