WHO: Demeter & Persephone WHEN: Sunday evening WHERE: Zeus' special room for locking ladies WHAT: CATFIGHT. But a Fixing The World catfight, so that's okay. WARNINGS: violence, language
Four of them had cornered her in the park in Brooklyn - Artemis, Apollo, Perseus, and Hercules. She had almost been offended that Zeus had sent, along with three gods, a mere semi-divine son of his. She was far greater and deserved so much more.
But he fought well along with the rest of them and eventually Demeter was brought down, bloody and screaming curses, having done some beautiful damage before she'd been forced into submission. She'd kept screaming at them even as they took her to Zeus' apartment and then locked her away into some dark room where she could beat against the walls as much as she liked without anyone coming to hear her.
Time was meaningless in a room without windows or clocks, so Demeter didn't know how long it was before that door opened again and someone else was put inside with her. Someone that made Demeter's skin crawl and made her lips curl back into a snarl.
Persephone. The underworld Iron Queen whore.
It wasn't that Demeter had forgotten that Persephone was her child. She remembered that and she remembered that she'd once gone to great trouble to get her back, but Demeter couldn't understand why now. Looking at this woman in front of her, Demeter felt only disgust and seething, boiling hatred, the likes of which she'd never felt for anyone else. This worthless bitch didn't deserve to even be in Demeter's presence and right now Demeter was going to make her very sorry that she was.
Claws and fists and teeth and anything else the two goddesses could use against each other, hurling vicious words as hard as their punches. On her lips, Demeter could taste her daughters blood and that only spurred her anger. She wanted to tear the girl into pieces for daring to even exist in the same world as her.
Time was still untraceable and so who could tell when exactly it started happening. But between the two of them (ragged, torn, bloody, bruised) something began to shift. Demeter felt the first flutter of something wrong (something right) when Persephone's hands were wrapped tightly around her throat, choking her as her nails dug through the flesh.
A flutter, a snake twisting through her guts, a shiver through her spine.
Fingers cut off Demeter's breathing but that the way her chest tightened had little to do with that. Locked inside Demeter Erinys the Earth Mother of Olympus yearned for life, for a daughter, for the growth of spring.
Layers were peeling back. Sunlight was returning. Slowly through the blood, life was reaching out.
Demeter felt like she was being dragged from the depths of the ocean and she dragged a sudden breath into burning lungs. One word slipped from her lips as she blinked up at the goddess who strangled her.
"Kore."

[info]persephoneie 2011-08-23 05:22 am UTC (link) Track This Persephone was bleeding and sore and scratched all to hell. She had her aching fingers twisted around Demeter's traitorous neck and she probably would have squeezed the life out of her except that the woman managed to mutter her name.
Her name.
Persephone's eyes widened and her hands loosened. Then she pulled them off of Demeter's neck as if she had been burned, placing them over her mouth in horror.

[info]thesmophoros 2011-08-23 05:25 am UTC (link) Track This It was like waking from the most awful dream, but this was all too real. Persephone's face was clawed and bruised; Demeter had done that.
From her knees she stared up at Persephone in horror. "Oh Fates," she whispered, voice rough and raw. "What have I done?"

[info]persephoneie 2011-08-24 05:26 am UTC (link) Track This Persephone nearly fell backwards, trying to drag herself away from Demeter. She could see now, really see the damage she had done to her mother. And she regretted it.
[info]thesmophoros 2011-08-24 05:29 am UTC (link) Track This What had they done? What had they let themselves come to? Demeter's hand was pressed over her mouth in horror and then, shaking her head, she crawled as quickly as she could to Persephone and dragged the girl roughly into her arms to hold her tight, ignoring all pain. "I'm sorry, oh my darling, my sweet, my Kore, I'm sorry."

[info]persephoneie 2011-08-24 05:38 am UTC (link) Track This If Demeter was sorry, Persephone was sorrier. She had tried so hard to get away...to what? To be that Iron Queen? She barely recognised the woman she had been just a few days ago, now.
Persephone curled up in her mother's arms and she clung tightly, sobbing loud and long. Her mother was here now. She was back with her where she belonged.
