Who: Kat & Cordelia Lowsley
What: Sisterly times!
When: Sunday afternoon
Where: Cordelia's place
Cordelia hadn't told anyone she was coming to New York. She knew both of her sisters lived there, and while St. Paul was nice and everything, she wanted to be closer to her family. So she gave her landlord notice, quit her job, packed everything into a U-Haul, and drove to New York. She'd found a loft apartment online, and the place had, surprisingly, included everything she was promised, as well as a grandmotherly Russian landlady who took a shine to her almost at once. She even made her grandson help carry in some of the heavier boxes, after which Cordelia insisted they both stay for tea. It seemed the least she could do.
So now, everything was all settled, and it was time to announce her presence to her sisters. So she pulled out her phone and texted them: 'Either of you know where a girl can get a bite to eat in the Big Apple?'

Kat had just finished work, and was highly tempted to find something else. Most customers did nothing but complain, and retail was one of those jobs that really got under her skin. Yet she was only an undergraduate, with very few skills to market even if the economy was better.
But her bad mood left when she got the message and she grinned as she replied 'you ass, you shoulda told us you were coming. I know a great place, where are you?'

Cordelia laughed and stuck her tongue out at the screen, even though Kat couldn't see it. 'At my new loft', she replied. 'I only finished moving in today. It's actually pretty nice. You guys should come and see it, and we can go have dinner, or something. And I need to find a job, but we can worry about that later. I just want to see you guys.'

Kat was pleased to know both her sisters were near now. She'd always been close, and she knew Miranda would be happy too. 'You should have told us. We would have helped you move. And of course! I think Miranda is still working but I'll come hang out. And hey if you're really desperate you can count on divine nepotism. I'm pretty sure Papou will give you a job. How legit it will be is probably debatable.'

She squealed in delight and clapped her hands. 'Yay! It'll be great to see you again. Sucks that Miranda has to work, though. And that reminds me, I need to say hello to Papou! Maybe if I flutter my lashes he'll hire me, semi-legitness notwithstanding. But anyway. I'm at [Address], ring the bell and the landlady'll let you in. Don't mind the barrage of Russian, she does that with everyone.'

'I am going to blow her mind now I kind of understand Russian aren't I? Anyway I'll be there in a few.' Smiling she put her phone in her pocket before making her way to the address. They'd all struck out in their own ways, and yet found one another in the same breath. But she was happy about it. She'd be lonely without them.
When she arrived she spoke to the landlady for a bit, in broken and halting Russian, but after a 'you're learning good' she'd gone up to her sister's place where she knocked on the door.

'There will probably be some mind blowing, yes. See you soon.'
She heard the knock and pulled the door open, grinning all over her face and pulling her sister into a hug. "Hey you," she said, giving her a squeeze. "It's been a while. Let me see you." She held her at arms length, studying her youngest sister, then nodded once. "Grew up all nice, just like I knew you would," she laughed. "Come on in, tell me all about things. You want some tea?"

She was happily pulled into the hug and returned it. She endured the look over with a roll of her eyes before stepping inside. "Nice. You know Miranda would have let you crash right? She's letting me crash." Not that she didn't split rent with her sister. It wouldn't feel right otherwise. "Right because it's been decades since we saw one another, not you know, since Christmas." She gave a playful grin and nodded, "sure." She dropped her bag and removed her coat to hang it up. "And things are as ever. School, work, checking out boys and trying to set Miranda up with someone sane and not Greek. Or at least not divine Greek."

"Yeah, probably, but can you imagine all three of us under the same roof again? It was dramatic enough when we were teenagers. And it was really a spur of the moment decision, even I didn't know I was coming until about a week or two ago."
"Hush, you," she laughed. "I'm allowed to be melodramatic when I want to be. Take a load off wherever." She waved to the couch and armchair in the living room. She headed into the kitchen and pulled down two mugs, putting the kettle on and letting the water start to boil.
"Oooh, have you guys got boyfriends?" she asked with a teasing smile. "Or either, in Miranda's case? Although, yeah, I think a divine Greek might be awkward. We're probably related to them, however distantly. Which would be a little weird, I think."

Laughing she went to the couch and sat down, letting herself relax. "Me and Miranda are doing alright so far. But I'm sure she wants her own space. The minute I can afford it I'll give it to her but us poor college kids are going to bum off our big sisters." She shook her head, "man, I remember that argument. Sort of. Hey girls, let's go to Australia." She rolled her eyes. "fun times. Anyway I am happy you're here. It's ncie to have you both here."
She shook her head before rolling her eyes again, "god you too? No I don't and Miranda hasn't got anyone either. I tried setting her up with a girl from my work but I don't know how that went." She scoffed, "according to Miranda it wouldn't matter. I think it does." She frowned, "hey so don't tell her I told you, but she's got a thing for one of the Gods. Apollo, of all things. I'm trying to talk her out of that."

"I can't really say much, first two years of university I still lived at home," she reminded her. "It takes time to save up enough, especially in this town. I'm still half convinced the rent was an illusion, but I'll take it, I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth."
She snorted. "That's pretty much how it was. I was only 13, I didn't want to go. But I guess we didn't have that much choice. It wasn't too bad. But I'm glad I'm close to you both now. It'll be good to catch up."
She grinned, bopping Kat on the nose before spinning back into the kitchen as the kettle started to whistle. "I'm pretty sure that comes with the 'oldest' territory," she called out, pouring the water into mugs and letting the tea bags steep. "Cherry Berry OK? And we can always ask her about it later."
She shrugged, bringing the mugs over, with some sugar packets. She mulled it over as she waited for the tea to cool. "I think, as long as they're not direct relatives, it wouldn't be that bad," she said cautiously, trying out the words. "Like no uncles, or anything like that. But cousin marriages are legal in certain states, so...I don't even know where I was going with that." She sighed, then looked over at Kat. "Isn't Apollo Papou's brother?"

She nodded, "I remember that, and it's cheaper then the dorms. You know this way only my grandkids have to pay off my student loans, not my great grandkids. It's stupid how expensive this crap is." She sighed, "well just be careful. Our place is nice and affordable, but the elevator doesn't work half the time and most of our neighbours hate us."
"Dude I was eight. I'm pretty sure I was half convinced I'd done something. It was nice living there, but I like this place too. And Papou is nice now we know who he really is. It's really freaky though seeing him all young. I swear I blink and he's almost cute. Then I remember we're related and feel like taking a bleach bath."
She made a face to the bop and smirked, "well go harass Miranda. She's been spouting nonsense of being old. And yeah that's fine. And we can. I haven't asked her yet."
She shrugged, "I'll tell you what I told Miranda. If they get the meaning of the word consent, you can date whatever divine person comes along. Or just mortal. I may be the only one of us who wants a nice mortal boy. I couldn't deal with living with someone who wouldn't age. Too creepy." She made a face, "considering who the uncles are? Yeah I'm good." Sh sighed and nodded, "yup. He is. And an ass. Dude cursed a girl because she didn't want him, along with the other giant lsit of flaws he's got."

"I saved so much money," she agreed. "It was also nice to eat mom's cooking for an extra two years. And you're telling me. Even living on campus two years, plus tuition and everything else, means I cringe when the statement comes in the mail." She smiled. "I will be. I have mace on a keychain. Although if anything drastic ever happens, you may have me couch-surfing for a while. And I will glare at your mean neighbors."
"I remember that," she agreed. "I was trying to hold it together while everything was changing at light speed. But at least we got to come back. And we found out who Papou was. And once we did, that actually explained a lot of things about my personality. At least, in my mind. Besides, he is cute. In his own way." She laughed.
"Oh, don't worry. I will," she promised. "After she's off work. And I will make faces at her and tell her she's not old. And then we can interrogate her about this new girl."
"Yeah, that's definitely a deal breaker for me, if they don't back off when I say back off," she agreed. "And hey, if that's what you want, hon, far be it from me to stand in your way. I just got here, so I'm not worried so much about that, but as long as said hypothetical boy makes you happy."
"I thought Hephaestus was alright, and he's an uncle," she said, wrinkling her brow in confusion. "Or at least the lesser of the evils. I thought it was the great-uncles we had to watch out for. Freaking Greek family tree will give anyone headaches. Although I do agree about Apollo. He doesn't seem like that much of a good guy. From what I've read, anyway."

She nodded, picking up her cup once it was cool enough and sipping from it. "I do miss mom's cooking and it is saving money. Not a lot, but enough." Smiling she nodded, "well of course. I speak for Miranda and say you are always welcome. It's what sisters are for. That and complain about things to one another."
She made a face again and shook her head, "ugh and yeah. It definitely allowed me to realize it made a lot of things click. Helped in the whole process of figuring myself out."She chuckled, "mind you I'm not sure if it is a new girl just yet but she gave me shit about talking to someone over the internet so I woe her one."
She sighed, "I'm too busy studying and working to have much of a social life. Most guys I meet are taken." She shrugged, "I'm not too worried about it."
"Well yeah he is. He makes nifty things and kind of gets the whole consent thing. And he's married and one of those rare Greeks that does monogamy so he's fine. And those too. Mostly great grandfather though. And funny as this is I now have a severe paranoia about swans." She shook her head, "no kidding and yeah. And he'd never fully love her you know? Miranda deserves a person who will think the world of her. Apollo wouldn't do that."

"Every little bit helps, especially in these times," she agreed. "And thank you. You're like the Mouth of Sauron. Which is very cool. And you know you can always complain about anything you want to me."
She snickered. "I promise not to say that a lot. Wouldn't want your head to explode. But it was something really big they kept from us, so it helped a lot of the pieces fall into place, I think. And I think shit-giving is in the contract, especially if internet boys are involved. Is he at least a nice internet boy?" She winked.
"Quite the healthy attitude you have there," she said, raising her mug in a toast. "I'm sure someone will come along soon, but at least you aren't stressing about it."
"So...basically we talk to Papou and his wives, Uncle Hephaestus, and...each other?" she hazarded. "Don't get me wrong, I don't have any problem with that, I don't want to get turned into a swan." She shuddered. "And I completely agree with you about Apollo. Miranda deserves so much better. Both of my sisters deserve someone to think the world of them."

She gave a sound of disapproval, "oh please. If I'm anything, I am Sauron. My goals are to become the evil villain, not the villain's henchman. Woman. Whatever." She smirked, "Eh you know me. It could always be worse."
She sighed, "yeah. Sometimes I can get hiding it, other times I can't. I don't know if I'd keep it secret so long. I'm not mom though so I wouldn't know." She set her hand on her head and groaned, "as far as I could tell, yeah. We talked about boys being stupid and our choices of study. He could still be a psycho."
Laughing she shook her head, "I'm what, 21? I got time a plenty." She shrugged, "and whoever else we feel we can trust. I'm sure there's less crazy gods out there. Somewhere. And Hecate's nice. Peitho will give you very risque underwear. Apparently she's like that." She shrugged and finished her tea, "besides it's not like telling people we're related to friggin Hermes is something a lot of people will believe." She nodded, "that and having swan sex. But I agree. She does deserve better."

"Does this mean I can be Aragorn?" she asked, striking as heroic a pose as she could while still sitting down. "Because that would be badass. I shall nurture your goals to become an evil villain, then we can have lightsaber battles at Christmas."
"I'm sure she had her reasons," she said, looking into her tea. "I'm not exactly sure what they were, but I bet she did. And at least she told us eventually, we didn't stumble over it ourselves and accuse her of lying." She grinned then. "Aww, that's not too bad. At least he seems smart, recognizing that boys can be stupid."
"Exactamundo," she said with a nod. "I need to hang out with those two soon. Risque underwear sounds fun." She wiggled her eyebrows. "And I would definitely like to meet the less crazy gods, please. But yeah, it's not something I divulge to just anyone, or I probably would've been carted off long ago."
"Yeah, no swan sex, please and thank you," she agreed. "That would just be awkward, I think. I'm sure she'll meet someone wonderful. How could she not? She's awesome."

She made a face, although the smile betrayed her humor. "Only if you're on my side. Otherwise I have to kill you." Then she laughed, "I agree with this. Mom will go up a wall but whatever."
She frowned, "yeah I just wish she'd say something. I don't want to have to keep guessing. We could ask Papou I suppose." She rolled her eyes, "that's not smart. That's common sense."
"Well Miranda works for Hecate so I'm sure she'll stop by once she knows your in town." She smiled "and that's what I keep telling her."

"I'm always on your side, goofball. Although one of us has to stab the other one in the back so we can say 'Curse your sudden yet inevitable betrayal!'. Because of reasons." She laughed too. "Well yeah, but we've been driving Mom up a wall practically since we were born, so I think she kind of expects it at this point."
"We could all turn up and go, 'So why all the secrets?' and break out the puppy-dog eyes. We'd be unstoppable." She snorted. "Hey, aren't you supposed to say nice things about your fake internet boyfriend?"

She laughed to that, "someone watched too much Firefly. Not that I can blame you. It was awesome." She smirked, "her fault for having daughters I suppose."
"Oh man that's harsh. We'd break the universe if we kept doing that. We should control our super power." she groaned, "I am going to hit you both. And he was nice. Funny. I only have a name and I doubt we're ever going to meet."

"And someone was way too emotional when it was cancelled," she said mournfully. "So many good shows dead before their time." She had to laugh at that. "I guess so. Though personally, I was glad I had two little sisters. Made playing pretend more fun."
"Hence why it is only to be used for good, young Padawan," she said, doing her best Obi-Wan impression. "And I think finding out family things falls under 'good', don't you?"
She giggled. "We all know it's never going to come to anything, and you are much smarter than going off and meeting random guys from the internet. If the roles were reversed, you'd probably do the same."
"I'll add it to my list," she agreed. "I'll call Miranda when she's off work, and we can hopefully work it out for a time when we're all together. Don't get me wrong, though, I love spending time with just you."

She chuckled, "I remember that. Granted I was right there with you. It was a good show." she nodded, "that it did." She scoffed then, "like I use anything ever for good. I like being on the dark side. Much more fun here. And it can be debatable. I mean our family has some odd quirks to it. But if being a quarter divine is the weirdest thing to find out, I'll take it."
"Well yeah. Still though, and sometimes meeting strangers off the internet pays off. It's just a bit of luck and a gamble." She nodded, "good and of course. I am the baby. Gotta love me." She grinned to the reference.

"It really was," she agreed. "But at least we got Serenity to wind things up. They couldn't stop the signal." She narrowed her eyes, and in her best Han Solo voice said, "We'll just see about that." Followed up by blowing a raspberry.
"Gods, that's like asking for something else to crop up, but at this point, nothing would surprise me," she replied, lifting her mug and finding it empty. She collected her sister's and put them both in the sink.
"I suppose," she agreed. "As long as you do it in a brightly lit, public place, next door to a police station, with mace in your purse." She wrinkled her nose. "There's the drama queen in me again." She reached over to ruffle Kat's hair. "I'll always love you, you know that."

"Don't say that. I think fate sees that as a challenge and will give you something to surprise you with." She rolled her eyes, "geeze, yes mom." She smoothed out her hair with a mock glare, "well yeah of course."
