Who: Hades and Open
What: Ignoring how much Spring sucks by walking the dog
When: Friday late night
Where: Park
Warnings: TBD
To escape the pressing quiet in his house, Hades took Cerberus and went for long walks. He went no where near what he classified as 'Demeter's part' of the city, but it felt good to get out. Before he'd buried himself in his duties and work during this period until winter came back, but now he had nothing but himself and am empty house. He spend time with his daughters, but it didn't take the edge of it all.
And now he'd promised to stop drinking so much, so he had even less to drown all the silence out with.
And humans irritated him, at least the living ones did, so he walked Cerberus during the night, when the dog who wasn't quite a dog wouldn't get quite so many stares. When they reached the park he sighed and unclipped the leash, letting Cerberus do as he pleased while he sat and glanced to the dim stars.

Every so often, Famine found herself out wandering the streets late at night. Either she couldn't sleep, or she felt restless in her girl shape, or she couldn't afford to break any more dishes without buying a new set. Whatever the case, it drove her outside into the night, coat wrapped around her skinny frame, her eyes searching out something to do, even just for a little while.
Tonight found her wandering the park, her hair and clothes almost blending in to the darkness around her. She could feel another immortal presence nearby, but then again, the city was crawling with them, so she didn't pay too much attention. But the presence got stronger as she kept walking, culminating in a man on a park bench, an enormous dog nearby. "You aren't that much smaller than my horse," she told it jokingly, nodding at its owner.

The presence of the stronger force made him look up. Hades kept a tab on the Christians out of self preservation. He disliked most Christians, but as they were neighbors he didn't exactly have much choice in learning how to deal with them.
So he nodded back and tried to guess which one this was. She wasn't human so he didn't feel the need to pretend he had many social skills. "You should see him when he is at home."
He rose, because lack of social skills or not he had manners, and walked to the female shaped thing. Then he extended his hand, "Hades. That's Cerberus."

"Damn, he gets even bigger?" she asked, sounding impressed. Then he told her their names, and she nodded. "That explains it. I bet he leaves the other two heads at home, huh? Less conspicuous that way."
She shook the hand he offered and said, "I'm Famine. Horseman, scales, etc."

He withdrew his hand and set it on Cerberus' head. He gave half a smile and shrugged, "something like that. The two heads are there, just not visible." He still had some of his tricks after all.
"Explains the hunger then. What brings you out here?" He let Cerberus go run around then. The dog was never much for company.

She looked closer at the Cerberus, but as he'd said, she couldn't see either of the two heads. "I believe you," she said after a moment. "And when it comes to gods and things, things are never what they seem at first glance anyway."
"Yeah, that's...kind of a side effect," she said with a small shrug. "Can't really be helped. And I got kind of restless, so I went for a walk. Wound up here. What about you?"

He tilted his head, "so you do more then kiss young goddesses then." He was still upset about that, but his anger was towards Eros, not her. Even if it had been, Makaria had asked him not to retaliate and for his daughters he'd do anything.
He shrugged, "my home is quiet. My girls are with their mother so it's me and the ghosts. And they are silent company, and he likes the outdoors." He motioned to Cerberus. "And now I am able to walk these lands I find I enjoy doing it. Besides, my neighbors are assholes."

"You heard, about that, huh?" she said, tilting her head to meet his gaze. "No offense meant to your daughter, but that was definitely a shock. I probably never would have met her if it hadn't been for that damn arrow. I feel like I should go after his wings for messing with my head."
She remembered the story of Hades and Persephone, and sensing it wasn't his favorite subject, chose not to mention it. "Hanging out with ghosts sounds cool and creepy all at once," she said instead. "I've got an owl myself, he likes to get outside too."
"By neighbors, do you mean the people next door, or in a neighboring realm?" she asked. "I've heard that your Underworld and our Hell aren't that far apart, but that was so long ago I may be misremembering."

He nodded, and didn't appear to be upset about the matter. Angering Christians was also bad for his health, and he had no desire to start a cross pantheon conflict. "I understand this. I hold no anger towards you, just Eros. He ought to know better then to mess with what is mine. I'm just grateful it was someone kind, who didn't push. Makaria is very innocent. She doesn't need more complications in her life."
He gave a shrug, "they are my servants and people. They have no where else to go. Some belong to my other daughter, some to Hecate. A bit dull and repetetive, but not bad sort. We get along."
"Neighboring realms. I have no physical neighbors. And you are correct, but not. Hell and my realm sometimes overlap. The rivers run through both places. Tedious and often I have to evict one of your demons."

"I respect people's boundaries," she said. "I'm not great with the whole love and feelings thing myself, so I'm right there with her on the not needing complications. She's a nice girl."
"I'll have to take your word on that, seeing as how I've never actually met any ghosts," she replied. "They don't...move on, or anything?"
She nodded, catching on. "The five rivers of Hades," she said, remembering the Greek mythology class she'd taken a few years ago. "And they're not my demons, Hell can keep them and the whole lot of them can burn for all I care."

He smiled to that, "she is at that. A precious commodity amongst my kind. I protect her as best she can. Harder to do now she wants to see this world."
He gave a smirk and sat down, "I am their 'moving on'. What one does in life is reflected in their death. There are some whom I judged and requested to serve me and my court Even the Elysian Fields get boring after a while, so they have something to do. And you may have met a ghost. You simply did not see or recognize them."
"Three of them now walk this realm as well. Curious thing." He chuckled, "curious. I assumed you belonged to my neighbors. No matter."
He paused for a moment, "Makaria does speak well of you, you know. She could use more friends, especially those who have a different perspective."

Famine nodded. "I don't have tons of experience with Greeks, but I know who to avoid, should I ever run into them. But I do know that most of them aren't as nice as she was."
She smacked her hand into her forehead. "I did know that," she said, sounding tired. "I'm just exhausted lately. Bullshit going on in Africa. But yeah, I remember reading about that. And now I'm just going to be looking around thinking ghosts are everywhere," she finished with a laugh.
"That doesn't surprise me," she said. "My sisters and I walk the earth, and we're supposed to be shut up behind seals waiting for the End." She waved a hand. "Yeah, we get that a lot. We're actually neutral parties until our time comes. Neither side gets to dictate our actions."
"She can come hang out with me, if she wants," she offered after a moment. "I could see about getting her a job. Just don't tell anyone, I'm supposed to be a bitch. But she was kind to me. So few people are."

"I intend to keep it that way," he knew that Makaria would lose some of her naivety, but he could live with that as long as she didn't completely lose all she was. "And technically I'm one of the ones most people tend to avoid."
He waved her excuse away, "don't worry about that. And more things are hidden then you may think." He'd been included in that, and at points it kept him secretive.
"Learn something new every day. And I appreciate that. My advantage is knowing she'll be safe." He gave a chuckle then, "and I'm supposed to be a dreaded tyrant of the dead. We all have our reputations. And consider yourself a guest to my home and my people. It's the least I can do."

Famine snickered. "I tend to come off the same way," she told him. "People tend not to want to associate with someone who'll usher in the end of the world."
"I don't doubt it," she agreed. "There are more things in heaven and earth, and all that jazz."
She nodded. "Just have her come down any afternoon, if she's interested. Our turnover is stupidly high, so there's bound to be something open. And you don't strike me as a dread tyrant of the dead, so reputations can take a flying leap."
"Oh, well...thank you," she said, digging in her pockets and fishing out her cigarettes. "Would you like one? I've wanted one since before I left."

He gave a shrug, "the end of the world means nothing to me, just an influx of more work and more souls to judge. This vacation's nice, but I prefer being busy. Too much time to think otherwise."
Nodding he took a cigarette and lit it, "thank you and like I said. Least I could do. Some of us still remember hospitality. And Eros is family, unfortunately, so I feel the need to smooth out any ruffled feathers. Gods knows no one else will do it."
"And I'll let her know. More interactions with mortals will do her good. I may have sheltered her a bit too much."

"It means everything to me," she said quietly. "I'll finally get to go home. Or sleep, or just stop, or whatever is going to happen. I know exactly what you mean about having too much time to think."
"Sure," she said, lighting hers. "Sometimes it seems like the old ways have fallen by the wayside. It's kind of nice to know they haven't. And from what I remember, sounds like everyone in your pantheon is family in some way or another. I'm not actively looking for him or anything, but that doesn't mean I'm inviting him in for tea should I ever run across him."
She nodded, exhaling smoke. "The clientele are a pretty good bunch, we don't hold with drunks and troublemakers and such. I throw them out myself if I have to. And hey, you're a parent. It's in their nature to protect their children, at least from what I've seen."

"I cannot understand it," he was honest there. His realm was just where all the dead went. The world ending wasn't something he could understand, nor the need for it.
"Just because some have forgotten, doesn't mean all of us have." He chuckled, "we are all related, somehow. Most of it's my brother's fault, really." That and he just liked blaming things on Zeus. It was a nice way of deflecting most things.
"Well I know my pantheon. I knew no one is protected. So I did what I do best and hid her. Now, of course, she wants to see things." He sighed. "Life is complicated."

"To take it down to brass tacks, basically my sisters and I come in and cleanse the earth so that God can set up a new heaven here," she said. "And all the righteous dead will rise again and live with Him. That's the basic jist of it, though I could probably talk about it all night. I'll spare you the theology lecture though, it tends to put people to sleep."
"Thank god for that," she replied. "Yeah, I noticed that, what with everyone marrying their brothers or sisters. And I assume by brother you mean Zeus? You have two, right, what was it...sky, sea, and the Underworld, right?"
"Mine's the opposite, all of them on the side of heaven jump to protect each other, which is nice, in theory, but it somehow ends up biting someone in the ass. I can't help but think sometimes that ways like yours are for the best. But it can't last forever, because nothing ever does. Not even us."

"Hm," he listened and still it didn't make sense to him. "seems like a waste to me. I see no point in resurrecting the dead. They are dead because it was their time." He shook his head, "Hecate's explained necromancy to me and I don't understand that either."
He gave a nod. No reason to deny it. "Something like that and yes I was speaking of Zeus. Poseidon also fits in that category." He didn't like his brothers and it was clear. "The pain of being the eldest is dealing with your younger siblings I suppose."
"True. I know all to well nothing ever lasts."
