What: The boys are having some twin time
When: Sunday afternoon
Where: Hypnos' place
Things were pretty good for Hypnos. He was spending more time with his wife, the pantheon didn't seem to be on the verge of exploding, and working with Hecate and Miranda was a fun way to spend his days. But he could feel that it would soon be time for him to go to sleep, and gods only knew how long it would last this time. And he wanted to see Thanatos again before he slept.
Pulling out his phone, he sent his twin a text: 'Crash is coming soon. Come hang out with me before I'm all asleep and boring.'

With Lyra out, most of his time was spend alone. He had very little hobbies, so when his brother texted him he smiled and appeared in Hypnos' living room.
Mostly, because he could, and if Hypnos was going to crash soon he wanted to spend time with his twin. "Hello brother." Smiling he hugged Hypnos before sitting down. "Did you want me here when you crash or are you going to ask your wife?"

Hypnos hugged him back before answering. "I'll probably ask Thea," he said, after thinking about it for a moment. "She should be all moved in by then, I hope, since we're talking within the next two weeks. Not that I trust either of you more than the other, but she's here now, and I...I have a lot of lost time to make up for." His voice got softer as he finished the sentence.
"So, how are things with you and Lyra?" he asked.

He chuckled and ruffled his brother's hair, "relax. I understand Hypnos." He did. In Hypnos' shoes he'd do the exact same thing. "Don't worry about it. I wouldn't make you pick between me and her. That would be cruel."
He smiled brighter then, "good. She went to meet the Fates. She's growing more at ease around our family. I am trying to convince her to meet Hades. He could do with the distraction. Spring always makes him hide in that house of his."

"And you are many things, brother-mine, but no one could accuse you of being cruel," Hypnos said, enduring the hair ruffle with his usual eye roll. "And it'll be nice having her there when I wake up, since that hasn't happened for decades."
He smiled too. "Good! I'm glad. As long as they didn't talk circles around her, that should have gone well. And I know what you mean. I don't think he hardly crack a smile until winter rolls around. I mean, I understand why, but still."

He smiled at the comment before chuckling, "better wake up call then my presence I'm sure. Still call me when you wake up. I'll call Thea to check up on you, but you know I worry." He couldn't help that. He'd always worried about his twin, even if Hypnos didn't need it.
He scoffed and rolled his eyes, "yeah. Unlikely. You know how they can get. And no, he's got his daughters so he smiles. Just, not a lot. And seeing there's little to do nowadays I provide distractions where I can. He'd like Lyra, I think. She's bright enough to cheer me up."

"I'm just glad to have anyone around when I wake up," Hypnos told him. "Waking up alone really sucks. And I definitely will, Thea may have to remind me, but I will. I know you worry, let's not have a repeat of the 'not waking up for almost two weeks' episode."
He laughed. "Yeah, true. But they mean well. Usually." He nodded then. "Yeah, I see what you mean. Maybe I could drop by after I wake up. I spent enough time in the Underworld, maybe it's worth a try." He chuckled to the last comment. "Lyra's bright enough to light up an entire city block. Hades won't know what hit him."

He smirked, "on the whole I'm pretty sure it's still nicer to wake up to a pretty girl. At least you should tell your wife that. Otherwise she'll draw on you or something. And I'll leave a note." He nodded, "yeah, that worried me."
"I'm just glad they are too busy dealing with the Loom. Can you imagine if they put all that energy into gossip?" he shook his head, "you ought to. I don't see why not. He's not such a bad sort." Then he nodded, "very true. She's quite something. A good kind of something though. A while ago she asked to see the actual me again and didn't shy from it." He smiled, "she is unique."

"Ah, well, you got me there," he said, a smile tugging at his lips. "And I do tell her that. It's an added bonus that it's true. And I don't think she'd draw on me. At least, I hope not. Then again, she can be really silly when she wants to be."
"Yes. Notes are good. As long as there isn't a quiz later," he added with a giggle. "And I'm cutting back on the caffeine, so that that doesn't happen again. I wanted to wake up last time that happened, I just couldn't. It was kind of creepy."
He snorted. "You say that like they don't. They probably do just that, we just don't hear about it. And I know he's not a bad sort, I just sometimes get the feeling he wants to stuff me in a box and make me be quiet. It's not my fault I'm so cheerful. Blame Starbucks. But I'll drop by post-nap."
"She's good for you, I think," he said quietly. "Bright and strong is a good combination, and you need both to deal with our insane world if you aren't born into it. I'm happy for you both."

His smile grew mischievous, "well she may not. But I could always talk her into it. As your brother I think I'm legally obliged to at least try." Not that he really would, but it was funny to joke about.
"No, I'll just fill you in as always. And you better. I may harp on that brother, but I dislike having to worry so. I was days away from calling mother. And I never call mother." Thanatos was distant from his parents. It had always been like that.
He made a face, "Gods I hope I don't get talked about. Although saying that I now realize they did speak to Lyra so I'm probably screwed now." He chuckled, "I wouldn't doubt it. The only reason he doesn't scowl at Hecate like that is because she can take him. I hope you're reminding her your taking your nap. I don't want worried Titan at my door."
His smile grew and he ducked his head, "I am fortunate she returns my feelings. And thank you Hypnos. It means a lot you say this."

"You turn my wife into a human Jigglypuff, and I will wreak my terrible revenge," he said mock-sternly, wagging a finger for good measure. "I don't want to wake up with a Captain Morgan goatee."
His eyes snapped onto Thanatos' face, all trace of joking gone. "You never told me that. Mother's always been your last resort, at least for as long as I can remember." The full gravity of the situation finally started to sink in. "Well, shit," he said at last. "'I'm sorry' doesn't really seem adequate."
"That's what happens when you want to introduce her to the family," he said, poking his twin. "You bring this on yourself. Although they probably do it to everyone, so I doubt they're singling you out."
"I'll tell her," he reassured him. "No one needs worried Titans banging down their door. But while I'm asleep, make sure she doesn't buy any more dogs. Not that the ones she got last time weren't adorable, but if she gets anymore, she'll have to get a bigger shop to hold them all."
He nodded, the smile on his face fond. "No problem, man. It's good that you're happy."

He gave a soft laugh to the image, the mock sterness not doing much to him. "that's just making it better and I'll be far away. The idea is tempting."
He shrugged. He hadn't meant to give Hypnos guilt, but he needed his twin to know these things. "It never came up. And I'm not as close to our parents as the others. I have that in common with Elpis. I'm surprised the world didn't implode in glee when Elpis and Lyra met. I figured it just might. And it is fine brother. It is behind us. Just do not do it again."
He raised an eyebrow, "brother-twin. Counterpart and dearest friend. I have not had a significant other, well, ever. Re think that comment." He shook his head.
He smirked, "I will try. I think she keeps it at seven so if one dies she may get a replacement. I like cats more, really."
"and I am. Truly happy." He frowned then, "but, I cannot give her everything she desires. I see how she acts around children. They light her up. I cannot grant her one of her own blood. I feel...bad for that. Family may not need blood, but still."

"Horrible, terrible revenge," he repeated. "I know where you sleep." he tried for a villainous face, but probably fell rather short. Which was OK. He wasn't serious anyway. Much.
"Hey, you won't find me calling them up on the parental holidays either," he said. "I mostly avoid them on principle, since Mother tends to look like she wants to eat me. And Father can sneak up on you like no one else." He snorted. "Yeah, I was waiting for the implosion, I feel kind of cheated."
"I won't," he promised. "I have no desire to put myself or anyone else through that again. I had a headache for two freaking days afterward, and that was the least of my problems."
"I thought you were gonna slip a 'sweetie' in there for a second," he muttered. "I was all set to goggle at you. But you know what I meant. In general. Our family may be insane, and peopled with things out of mortal's nightmares, but some things about families don't change. And like you said. First girlfriend of yours ever. Of course they're going to talk."
"As long as it doesn't get up to some crazy number like twelve, I'm fine," he replied. "They pretty much have the run of the place as it is, sometimes it's all I can do not to step on one or four of them."
"Well good," he said with a nod. "That's the important thing. And I hate to break this to you, but divine or no, you aren't all-powerful. I know it upsets you, and I feel bad for you. But maybe, when you guys want to talk about kids, you could adopt? I know it's not the same, but as you said, you don't need blood to be family."

He smirked, "but you won't try anything there, because it may upset Lyra. I do spend a lot of evening with her you know." He gave his best innocent smile. "So your revenge would be stalled."
He shrugged, "I am not close to most of our siblings either. Ours is an odd family. And I found them in my apartment, talking like mad. I generally have no fear, except when they both smiled at me and said hello. I expected half my apartment to be recolored."
"good. I'll still frown when you have coffee though. It's my job." Then he laughed, "no that is reserved for Lyra. She has a better smile then you if I call her that." He sighed, "I know. I ought to be glad no one has any images of me as a child. I do not need that. Of course The Fates remember me as that young. Let's pray it doesn't get brought up."
"You decided to work for the goddess who likes dogs Hypnos. You cannot blame anyone but yourself." He rolled his eyes, "and I know I am not all powerful." He sighed, "first I must learn to be more relaxed around children. You know me and children. I feel as if I would break them just by looking at them. On the other hand if I do have children with her and they date I would be the most terrifying parent to be introduced to. Not many can claim they can kill you by touching you. And shut up I know I can't, it's a nice threat."

"But eventually, you'll have to leave," Hypnos replied sweetly. "And then I'll find you, brother-mine. And then, you know. Terrible revenge, etc. You know the drill."
Hypnos had been about to say something, but shut his mouth with a snap. "They smiled?" he asked incredulously. "Both of them? And the world didn't end? Why were they both in your apartment?"
"I don't think any power in the 'verse could stop me from drinking coffee. I'll just quit drinking so much of it. Less cause for you to frown, I would hope."
He laughed. "That's because we didn't have cameras back then. You'd have to have Atropos do a sketch or something. And they remember everyone that young, I'd bet. Sometimes I'm convinced they were just born the ages they are now, and didn't get any older. I know they didn't, but still."
He rolled his eyes in return. "There weren't a lot of other options jumping up to grab me. And I figured, I could be doing a lot worse. But I swear, the damned dogs lie in wait until I move, then put themselves underfoot on purpose."
"I do," he agreed. "Kids are tough, man. They run into things, they eat dirt, they fall out of trees. And they're fine. You should be good."
He laughed out loud at that. "You really would be. 'Don't get fresh with my daughter, or I'll kill you with my brain, young man'. That would be hilarious."

"I doubt it can get really terrible. I know your weaknesses and I am willing to exploit them to not make you do whatever it is you're planning." Smiling he nodded, "Elpis breaks into my apartment on semi frequent occasions. I am close to her school and she is a mother hen. She likes to fuss. Lyra was over so they met. And yes smiled. I do not wish to think about what they discussed."
"Thank you, and yes they are odd at times." He laughed then, "and considering they are Hecate's I wouldn't be surprised."
"Yes but I am still Death. I worry. I have no idea how to act around them. And it would be funny. I could ask Father to loom in the background. Or Hades."
