Who: Hypnos & Thanatos What: Things didn't go so well for Toast When: Tuesday night Where: Hypnos' place Thanatos had told Hypnos how badly things had gone when he'd told Lyra who he really was, and Hypnos couldn't help but feel really bad for him. Thanatos embodied something people were afraid of, and while he didn't blame Lyra for her reaction, he could tell his twin was taking it pretty hard.
So, as promised, he'd ordered pizzas, found a marathon of bad action movies on Spike, and was ready to help Thanatos pretend there was no world outside this bubble, if only for a little while.
a_gentle_death 2011-08-17 12:25 am (local) (link) Thanatos was always happy to see his brother, tonight was just a bit different. He'd lost Lyra, and it did hurt. He hadn't expected this hurt. Not for a while. He just couldn't keep lying.
Knowing a door wasn't always necessary, he appeared in Hypnos' living room. They were twins, he figured he was allowed. He gave Hypnos a tired smile before sitting down beside him. "Thank you." (Reply to this)(Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-08-17 12:29 am (local) (link) They'd been doing this for so long, Hypnos didn't even jump anymore. He looked over at his brother, seeing the hurt all over his face.
"You're welcome," he said, dishing up some pizza and passing him the plate. He almost asked, 'Do you want to talk about it?' then remembered 'bubble'. So instead he said, "I swear, the movies they show on this station get worse with each passing day." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
a_gentle_death 2011-08-17 12:33 am (local) (link) He smiled to his brother, "it's alright. You can ask. I just," he paused, "she asked me if I waned her to wear pretty dresses for me. If I wanted to take her out. I said I did, but I couldn't keep lying to her. So I told her. Then I showed her." He glanced to the television, "mortals never take me well. I should only be seen by them at the end of their lives. I don't know why I keep trying to fit in." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-08-17 12:58 am (local) (link) Hypnos gave a tiny shrug. "I just didn't want to poke at a sore spot, if you didn't want to talk about it."
He winced internally. "I'm really sorry, man," he said quietly. "I know it's cold comfort, but if you hadn't told her, the lie probably would have eaten at you, which is no good either."
"Because we're not the same as we once were?" he mused aloud. "We're more human now, we have to at least try or we get locked up. We can't wear our wings anymore, which is both good and bad, I think. And you shouldn't have to walk through the world alone, because that isn't fair either." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
a_gentle_death 2011-08-17 01:03 am (local) (link) Smiling he set his hand on his twin's shoulder, "it's alright." He nodded, "I know that is true, but...she looked at me like I was going to kill her. Which is not what I do, at all."
"Not the same or not, I am still what I am. You have a wife and counterpart Hypnos. I was never made for that. Death, is a solitary thing." He shrugged, "when we went to Hawaii, I did wish I could have someone too, like you and Morpheus do. Sometimes I feel alone. But it is my lot to be alone." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-08-17 01:44 am (local) (link) Hypnos gave a slight smile in return. "I know that, and you know that, but I'd bet all of the Dr. Doom comics I'm buying for Moros that she doesn't know that. The only ones you take are the ones decreed by the Fates. You're not a murderer."
"You could make the argument that the Keres are your counterpart, or at least your opposite, in the loosest sense of the word," Hypnos replied. "You'll always be what you are, thousands of years hasn't changed that."
"I'm sorry if you felt alone," he said, pulling his twin into a hug. "That was never our intent, to make you feel left out." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
a_gentle_death 2011-08-17 01:55 am (local) (link) "It's not the same. Not what you have with Patisthea, or what Morpheus has with Iris." He smiled into the hug and patted his twin's shoulder. "I know that. You wanted me to have fun. And I did. Truly."
He sighed, "it's not how she looked at me though. It's like I was going to kill her. Awful Realm of insatiable Death and all." He shrugged, "I'd rather watch the movie now. What are we seeing?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-08-17 02:14 am (local) (link) Hypnos couldn't really respond to that, because he had a point. So he smiled instead and said, "Good. I'm glad. And we all avoided the evil dolphin revenge, so I count that as a win."
"That must've really sucked," he said. "And it's really unfair, I think." He blinked at the topic change, but rallied. "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," he said. "They took a bunch of characters from 19th-century literature and basically made them the precursor to the Justice League. It's actually not too bad." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
a_gentle_death 2011-08-17 02:17 am (local) (link) He chuckled and nodded, "it is a win. Nothing created by Poseidon can be counted as good. It's why I prefer staying out of the water."
He nodded before paying attention to the movie. "I heard about this. I also heard they didn't even stay close to the comics. But it's good for a distraction." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-08-17 02:32 am (local) (link) Hypnos nodded. "It's probably why I don't ride horses. They'd buck me out of spite."
He snorted. "That doesn't surprise me at all. Why use perfectly good source material if you're not going to follow it? So many potential good movies, so few executed well." He sighed melodramatically. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
a_gentle_death 2011-08-17 02:35 am (local) (link) He took a piece of pizza then, "we're lucky we aren't like Heracles. Do you remember that Disney debacle?" he shuddered, "Hades couldn't stop complaining for weeks after that, and I swear he had a blue tinge to his hair for it during. But don't repeat that. He'll make me walk Cerberus again." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-08-17 03:26 am (local) (link) Hypnos laughed, snorting through his nose. "Gods, yes. I remember laughing my ass off that they depicted Hera as nice. And that they made Heracles her son. I sat there going, 'Uh...no, Disney, please do your research next time."
He laughed harder at the image of Hades with blue hair, miming zipping his lips shut. "I won't tell, I swear. But that's freaking hilarious." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
a_gentle_death 2011-08-17 03:31 am (local) (link) This was better, and it was helping. "Yeah I was very confused about that. Poor Heracles. And depicting his first wife like that? They forget what that poor boy went through."
Sighing he shook his head but he was smiling now, "it was. He couldn't go outside for days. It was worth it though." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-08-17 03:55 am (local) (link) "It's because cracking a book or searching theoi.com is too much work," Hypnos said brightly. "And then something might be accurate, and we can't have that."
Another snicker escaped. "Wasn't his hair also made of fire? I think someone blew it out once in the movie." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
a_gentle_death 2011-08-17 03:57 am (local) (link) "It's called effort and no one wants to make it." He chuckled, "how do you think I got stuck with walking Cerberus? I tried. It was high summer so he was less then pleased. Beats cleaning out Tartarus though, but it was worth it." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-08-17 04:14 pm (local) (link) "Kids these days," Hypnos said, laughing. "And that explains a lot, actually. I think I've got an action figure of him and Hercules from the movie stashed somewhere, I thought they were hilarious." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
a_gentle_death 2011-08-17 05:41 pm (local) (link) "Don't say that, you're going to make me get you a cane." He smirked to the last bit. "Never, ever, tell him that. I think he likes pretending it never happened. But it reminds me to say hello to Makaria. She's on the surface now."
