Who: Morpheus & Hypnos What: Brothers hanging out in dream-land When: Sunday night Where: Hypnos' dreams!
Four days into his nap, and Hypnos hadn't hardly moved, except to shift position every few hours or so. It was basically a total system shutdown, and really, a week out of the year wasn't too much to ask, in his mind. He was wide awake the other 51 weeks, this one was for him.
As he usually did, he hung out in his own little dream world the whole time, shaping things, rearranging, changing what and when he saw fit. Dreams were awesome like that, if you could conceive it, you could bring it into being.
He'd been pretty much expecting that Morpheus would pay him a visit sometime during the week, and when he felt the familiar presence approaching, he stood up and smiled, raising his hand in greeting. "Morpheus, catch!" he called, throwing a shimmering purple octagon in his direction.
dreamshaper 2011-04-18 12:05 am (local) (link) Morpheus laughed and caught the octagon, letting it rest in his hand as he inspected it. It glowed and gave off a slight warmth. He smiled. Morpheus always enjoyed the things his brother came up with in his dreams. Thousands of years had passed since the first time Morpheus had come to his brother's dreams, but the visits were still interesting.
"You're going to have some interesting new friends when you wake up," Morpheus said, smiling and walking forward to give his brother a hug. "I thought I'd help get you prepared for them."
He waved a hand, and a pack of dogs bounded up behind him, barking and happy. They were made of clouds, their bodies round and soft and bright white. They looked very much like the dog Hecate had adopted. (Reply to this)(Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-04-18 12:25 am (local) (link) Hypnos raised one eyebrow. "Oh really? Do tell, good sir."
And then the dogs came into view, all white and fluffy and adorable, and Hypnos' grin threatened to split his face in two. He knelt down and scratched their ears, trying to say hello to all of them at once as they barked and sniffed, trying to figure out who he was.
"Morpheus, they're adorable!" he said, rubbing one's belly with one hand, while a second licked the other. "Did someone I know get a dog like this?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dreamshaper 2011-04-18 12:35 am (local) (link) Morpheus sat down on the ground and let some of the dogs swarm him while the rest swarmed his brother. He'd quite enjoyed making them, even though they'd wiggled and danced around as he put the finishing touches on them.
"Oh yes," he said with a laugh. "She waited until you'd fallen asleep so you couldn't lecture her about getting more dogs, apparently." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-04-18 04:28 am (local) (link) Hypnos rocked back on his heels, which one of the dogs took as an invitation to jump up on his lap, sending them both falling backwards onto the ground. He huffed out a laugh regardless. "Hecate and her dogs," he said with a grin. "Well, if it looks anything like these, I can't wait to meet it. As if I would ever lecture her on getting more dogs, anyway. They keep the store from getting too quiet."
Gathering one of the dogs up onto his lap (properly this time, no more falling over), he started to rub its' belly. "So how are things in the waking world, brother-mine?" he asked. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dreamshaper 2011-04-18 10:19 am (local) (link) The question brought Morpheus' cheerful mood down, and he buried his fingers in one of the dogs' fur.
"Clotho's gone missing," Morpheus said, the air around him darkening a little. "Atropos says she's been gone for nearly a week, and Mother thinks she may have been taken by a mortal." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-04-18 03:09 pm (local) (link) The smile melted off of Hypnos' face like an ice cube in July. "What?!" he asked, his expression equal parts incredulous and pissed off. "Someone...someone took Clotho? And she's been gone for a week? The world must be spinning off-kilter, Fate can't function without all three of them."
The wind had picked up as he was speaking, going faster and faster until there was a little miniature tornado right over his head. He glanced upward. "A fitting description, but unhelpful," he told it, forcing himself to calm down. It had happened to him in dreams before, unchecked emotions manifesting themselves in unexpected ways.
He sighed. "So what's being done to find her?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dreamshaper 2011-04-18 09:38 pm (local) (link) Morpheus nodded. "Atropos says things will start going badly wrong if she's not found soon, and I'm inclined to believe her. Mother's on the warpath, which is actually reassuring, for once." He rubbed the stomach of the dog sprawled across his lap. "I'm looking for the man who took Clotho. Or at least, is suspected of taking Clotho. It's hard finding one person in New York City, but I'll get it done." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-04-18 09:58 pm (local) (link) He sighed, flopping back. "She's right, they will," he answered. "Clotho spins the life-threads, without her, children won't be able to be born. The Loom literally needs all three."
He shuddered a bit. "Mother is frightening, even when she's not on the warpath," he said. "I bet she's bloody terrifying right about now. But if anyone can get answers or vengeance, it's Mother."
"Well that can only be good," he said, letting the now-squirming dog off his lap, watching it bound off to play with the others. "And I have no doubt you'll get it done."
"I tell you what, though," he continued. "I wouldn't want to be that man when either Atropos or Mother get their hands on him. There won't be anything left of him." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dreamshaper 2011-04-18 10:10 pm (local) (link) Morpheus nodded. "He'll be lucky if there's enough left of him to bury. Honestly, what could anyone be thinking, kidnapping a Fate? And that's not even getting into kidnapping one of Mother's brood." He shook his head. "There are easier ways to commit suicide." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-04-18 10:54 pm (local) (link) He snorted. "There probably won't be. He'll be a greasy, smoking smear on the ground by the time they're done."
"And to answer your question, he probably wasn't thinking. He probably wasn't even thinking of the consequences when he was doing it. He had to know there'd be people out looking for her, and they wouldn't be too pleased when they caught up with him. He probably just...didn't care." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dreamshaper 2011-04-20 07:16 am (local) (link) Morpheus sighed. "I just wish I could find them faster. I'm searching for Clotho's dreams, because I haven't a clue what this man who took her would be like. Very frustrating."
He smiled a small smile at his brother. "But I also thought it was important that you meet the cloud dogs."
