Who: Raphael & The Fates
What: An angel and a trio of goddesses cross paths
When: Monday afternoon
Where: Random New York street
Note: This is the previous incarnation of Raphael, the one played by Trish.
It was a rare occasion that the Fates closed down the shop and all of them left together. But they needed a break, so they put up a sign saying they'd be back in a few hours, and the three of them departed.
They had lunch at a small sidewalk cafe, chattering and bantering in the way sisters do, and there were still a few hours left for them to wile away, so they picked a direction and started walking. They were in the middle of a conversation when Clotho held up a hand. "Do you feel that?" she asked.
Lachesis started to look around. "Feel what?" she asked.
"I don't feel a thing," Atropos added.
"Maybe if you were paying more attention, you might," Clotho teased. "Immortal. Not one of ours, though. About 20 feet that way." She gestured west.
"If it's not one of ours, then whose is it?" Atropos asked, curious in spite of herself.
"Well the only way to know, is to ask!" Clotho said, excited at the prospect of meeting someone new.
"Politely," Lachesis said. "Or we could just wait here, he's almost on top of us anyway."
Clotho couldn't help but snort. "That's what she said," she said out of the corner of her mouth to Atropos, who laughed.

All there was to do was wait and think and work when he was on shift. It left him somewhat distant when he was this deep in thought which had been noticed by the nurses at work. He would blame his deep thinking for not noticing the three of them until he was close but he did pause before walking by them as he caught the feel of energy that meant not-human and smiled since he managed to stop before he bumped right into them.
"Excuse me, I wasn't watching where I was going."

"Oh, you're fine," Lachesis said, smiling.
"He certainly is," Clotho whispered to Atropos, who elbowed her, even though she was grinning.
"What my sister means is that we're fine," Lachesis said, determined to be the mature one in this conversation. Like always. But before she could say anything else, Atropos spoke up.
"So, Clotho said you were immortal, like us, but not a Greek. So who are you?" she asked, blunt and curious, as always.
"Atropos!" Lachesis hissed.
"What?!" she hissed back. "If you were still talking, we'd be doing pleasantries and tap-dancing around anything of merit for twenty minutes. My way's faster."
Clotho rolled her eyes and turned to address the new man. "Don't mind them, we're like this all the time. So, what is your name?"

It was kind of like being dropped in the middle of an ongoing conversation and trying to catch up. It had made him blink and smile slightly as he waited for a pause to be able to answer.
"My name is Raphael. And no, I am not Greek but I know a few that are."

Clotho tilted her head, thinking. "Raphael..." she mused aloud. "Like, Raphael, the Christian archangel?" Her eyes widened. "That's really cool, we've never met an angel before."
"I thought we had," Atropos interjected.
"No, that was some bird god back home," Lachesis said. "I don't recall his name immediately, but I think he had wings."
Atropos shrugged. "If you say so," she said, turning her attention back to the angel. "So, do you have wings and everything, like your Bible says?"
"Can you fly?" Clotho asked.
"I thought you two had more manners than that!" Lachesis chided. "One question at a time, let's not bombard the poor man."

"Yes, as in Raphael the archangel." He couldn't help but be amused at the way the three of them talked. Mostly because it was a little hard for him to keep up but he was coming out of his distracted and thoughtful state which helped.
"I have wings sometimes and I can fly." He tilted his head a little with a curious look. "I think I might have a clue who you are if you're Greek but it wouldn't be polite to assume your names." They hadn't introduced themselves and he didn't want to insult anyone but assuming who they were. He did try to be on good terms with the Greeks since Clio was his friend and Hades had agreed to help him.

"Wicked," Clotho said, her eyes sparkling.
"It's very nice to meet you, Raphael," Lachesis said, still trying her best to be gracious. "You'll have to pardon my sisters, they can be a bit excitable sometimes."
"Aww, come on, we don't meet angels every day!" Clotho countered. "And he didn't seem to perturbed by our questions, he looks more amused than anything."
"He's smart, too," Atropos said, stepping a little closer to address him directly. "Always wise not to assume with Greeks, they tend to want to turn you into things for insulting them. Fortunately, we're rarely like that-"
"Sometimes you are before your coffee," Clotho muttered, and got her foot stepped on by Lachesis for it.
"-We're rarely like that, and we like meeting new people," Atropos finished.
"They call us the Fates, or the Moirae," Lachesis explained. "I'm Lachesis, and these are my sisters Clotho and Atropos."
"So, were your thoughts right?" Clotho asked.

He did try not to assume with anyone but he'd read enough stories about the Fates that he'd wanted to be extra cautious. Not to mention not wanting to insult people that Clio knew.
"I was correct but I will admit up front that while I know of you I don't know much about you. And I can tend to be a little grouchier before my coffee too."
"I never met any of the Greeks before I met Clio a little while back."

Clotho sighed. "People always think we're so freaking scary," she said. "We're just doing our job, most of the time. I spin each thread of life, Lachesis determines how long it will be, and Atropos cuts it. Birth, life, death. The cycle always continues."
"Clotho also likes to exaggerate," Atropos said with a sarcastic sweetness, glaring at Clotho, who pretended not to notice.
Lachesis was still trying valiantly to get the other two to behave, but now she was just about to give up. "Clotho, Atropos is perfectly pleasant most all the time. Atropos, Clotho is just teasing and you know that. Can we all please act like the civilized, several-thousand-year-old beings we are?"
"Wait, you know Clio?" Clotho asked. Lachesis sighed. "I'm not ignoring you, but didn't you hear what he said? He knows Clio."
"I heard," Lachesis said. "How did you meet her?" she asked.
"And from the sound of it, you've met some more since," Atropos added. "We'd just like to say up front, we're not all as crazy as the myths make us out to be."
"Yeah, what she said," Clotho agreed, nodding.

"Just as I and my brothers are not as rigid and forgiving as the stories make us out to be." He smiled at them with a hint of that amusement again. Until he thought about how he had met Clio and it faded.
"My fallen brother took her and did horrible things to her for helping one of our own. I gave her what healing I could and am happy to call her friend now."

"Well that's always good to know," Clotho said. "The stories about 'avenging angels always make you out to be really scary, not someone you really want to cross."
"Fallen brother?" Atropos asked.
"He probably means Lucifer," Lachesis responded. "And that's horrible, but we saw they found her in time. Her thread frayed quickly and dangerously, but it did not vanish or break."
"If I ever meet this Lucifer, I'm going to give him a piece of my mind," Clotho muttered darkly. "Messing with someone's thread is never allowed, it's our job to adjust them as destiny decrees."
"Then we owe you thanks, for your healing," Atropos said. "If History would have perished, the consequences would have been farther reaching than even we could comprehend."
"It would've spelled disaster," Clotho agreed solemnly.

"I'm afraid he doesn't care much about what other people think." If they scolded him for it he'd just laugh and say he'd play with whoever he wanted.
"You owe me nothing. She was going to live after my brother Michael rescued her but I wanted to make it quicker for her. She did not deserve to live in pain if I could heal it."

"People who would do things like that never seem to," Lachesis agreed. "We've found that generally doesn't change from pantheon to pantheon."
"A dick is a dick is a dick," Clotho said with a perfectly straight face, sending Atropos into gales of muffled laughter. It earned her a pinch from Lachesis, and she squawked in protest.
"We still feel we should say thank you," Lachesis said. "You did a very kind thing, and we know your faith says you don't do good things for reward, but nonetheless, we felt we should."
"Did she heal up well?" Clotho asked. "We haven't seen her around much lately, we really ought to invite her by the shop."
"We should, we just got a shipment in of some of the classics," Atropos agreed. "I'll put a few aside for her."
"And you would be welcome to come by anytime you'd like," Lachesis added. "We're located in Times Square."

"You have a book shop?" He brightened a little at the idea of it. He might not have as many books and resources as Clio did but he had more than his share of them. There was nothing he liked better than to sit and read when there was nothing else going on so the idea of knowing someone that had a book shop was quite entrancing. Of course part of that had come from living through the years where you had to be disgustingly rich to have written material and mass printing was a pipe dream.
"I would love to come see your shop. You can expect me to visit often...I do have a slight weakness for new books I think."

Lachesis smiled and nodded. "We do indeed. We're open til 10 Monday through Friday, and until 8 on the weekends."
"Don't forget to mention we open at 9," Atropos added. "That might be important to know, too."
"Awesome!" Clotho said brightly. "We'd love to have you, by the second visit, Atropos'll be swapping all kinds of stories with you. She loves to do that with new people."
"And you bubble over with cheeriness to the point where they get a little nervous," Atropos teased.
"I'd pipe up here with something about the two of you assuming I mother everyone...but since that's actually what I do, I'm just going to keep smiling," Lachesis said, doing just that.
"You are the Mother," Clotho replied. "If you stopped doing that, I think we'd be worried." Atropos nodded in agreement.

"I believe everyone can use a little cheeriness in their life." He certainly could use some right now with everything going on. The three ladies were certainly very entertaining to speak to and he could imagine some of the stories they could tell. "And I am fond of story swapping as well so no fear of my staying away."
And if they were open after 5 when he could go there while on call at the hospital it was even better.
