Who: Hades & The Fates What: Catching up When: Monday evening Where: A Thread In Time Warnings: Drinking, possible language, TBD
When Lachesis had been informed Hades was coming over, she flew into a tidying frenzy the likes of which neither of the other two had never seen before. She sent Clotho to the market for some scotch and munchies, and once again, Atropos stood around and looked amused.
"Every time, you clean like royalty is coming over," she said, with a certain fond exasperation.
"Hades is an Olympian," Lachesis replied, more than slightly frazzled. "And Lord of the Underworld."
"And we are Fate" Atropos reminded her gently. "Bound to the gods we may be, but eventually, they must all bow to our judgment. No one, god or mortal, can escape their destiny."
The bell chimed as Clotho came back in with the groceries. She carried them upstairs and started pulling out tumblers and plates. "When did he say he was coming by?" she called down.
"After work," Lachesis called back. "He didn't really specify a time, so I want to make sure things are in order now, just in case."
Atropos tilted her head up suddenly. "Well, I don't think you'll have much longer to wait," she said.
Clotho came downstairs as Lachesis moved to stand beside her, the two of them flanking her. "Oh, did I-"
"Everything looks wonderful, as well you know," Clotho said firmly. "I'm sure he'll have no reason to complain."
unseenone 2011-01-17 06:11 pm (local) (link) Select Hades liked the Fates. Despite being a neutral party in the giant sharktank that had been Olympus they had taken up residence in his Underworld. Zeus may be their leader, but they had seemed to like his realm more. It was hard not to think of them as subjects, even he bowed to their judgment, and he endeavored not to treat them as such.
Hades never gave times though, he ran at his own pace. Once he'd left his job, something he didn't need to do but it was better then nothing, he'd made his way calmly to the Fate's current home. He found the name amusing and knocked on the door. Too many people had ran in and out of the Underworld not to get annoyed at people lacking basic courtesy. He still possessed it. relentless_fate 2011-01-17 10:30 pm (local) (link) Select Lachesis was the one to answer the door and usher Hades inside. "Welcome, Lord Hades, please, come in," she said, closing the door behind him. She locked it as well and put up the 'Closed' sign.
Atropos and Clotho greeted him as well, smiling and leading the way to their second floor apartment.
"If you'd like to have a seat, I'll get us some drinks," Clotho said, retrieving the tray with the bottle and tumblers. She poured a measure for each of them, handing him his glass first. She placed the tray of cheese and crackers next to it.
"So tell us, what have you been up to all these centuries?" Atropos asked, once everyone was settled. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
unseenone 2011-01-18 03:41 am (local) (link) Select Once he was inside he bowed his head to the Fates, as always acknowledging their hold over even him. Their shears had run part of his realm, and still did. He'd rather not taste them himself.
"Thank you for inviting me ladies, as always it's a pleasure." He took a seat, taking the glass with a grateful smile.
The question made him shrug, "what I've been doing for all eternity. I run my realm, which is now a lot quieter, and I took up a job as a coroner. Not exactly needed but watching paint dry isn't as entertaining as I would think. I wait for Winter and dislike Spring, although circumstances have changed." to that, he smiled, "she's staying this time." He could share this with the Fates, he'd always been honest with them.
"My daughter is on the surface now, causing me no end of worries. Too outspoken," although he'd encouraged that. "And as ever, I think I'm the sanest one of my brothers. And you ladies, what have you been doing?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) GRR, IJ ate this tag *twice*! relentless_fate 2011-01-18 05:13 am (local) (link) Select "The pleasure is all ours," Clotho replied, smiling, and the other two nodded in agreement.
"Somehow, I'm not surprised," Atropos said. "For all that the gods have moved into modern times, we are still largely the same."
"Yeah..." Clotho said, shooting Atropos a side-eye. "Because running a bookshop is exactly like determining the fate of men."
"Hence why I said 'largely'," Atropos returned.
"Lady Persephone is staying with you during the Spring? How wonderful!" Lachesis exclaimed. All three of them valued his honesty, and they would never betray anything he told them.
"What's it like, being a coroner?" Atropos asked, ever curious. "It seems like a job you'd be good at. And how quiet is the Underworld these days?"
"Ask a few more questions, Atropos," Clotho muttered into her scotch. "You might get his shoe size and back account out of him, while you're at it." Atropos just elbowed her in retaliation.
"Makaria is back, how lovely," Lachesis said, ignoring her sister's bickering. "That must be a happy thing for you and Lady Persephone."
"Not that we will ever say so out loud, but we agree with you," Clotho said, and the other two nodded. "And we are very grateful for it."
"We've moved around a lot since we got here, I think it was...400 years ago?" Atropos said. "All of us have gone to college at least twice, I think we've got a dozen Masters degrees between the three of us. We settled here maybe...ten years ago, I think." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
unseenone 2011-01-18 07:08 am (local) (link) Select Hades was long used to the conversations between the Fates. He'd never interrupt, only voicing his own thoughts when he was sure he would not interrupt. He smiled as he listened, sipping from his drink.
"As for being the same, we cannot escape what we are." he nodded then, unable to help how pleased he was about his Queen staying. "She is. I got tired of the whole six months arrangement when she accepted my touch. Each time she returned I would have to gain her trust all over. Times are different now, and we are...working on our relationship. She's yet to tell Demeter, who will surely act out and think I've corrupted her sweet little girl." He did not hide the sarcasm in his voice. Why Demeter assumed he would corrupt his wife was beyond him.
He shrugged, "deadly quiet." He smirked at the joke, "It is still inhabited by a few shades and for a while it lay as dead as it's inhabitants. With the revival of the old cults however I have received a few new guests. As for my dayjob it is...interesting preparing bodies rather then judging them."
He chuckled then, "I wouldn't know my shoesize and I have no bankaccount. I do not trust the mortal banks since the Depression." He sighed, "and aggravating. She is a teenager. She likes loud music. A lot."
He bowed his head to the praise and listened to them as they explained where they had been and how long they had been here. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
relentless_fate 2011-01-19 07:08 am (local) (link) Select "Very true," Lachesis agreed. "Times may change, but by and large, we do not."
"That's so great for you guys," Clotho said, grinning. "Getting to spend more time together and build your relationship. We wish you all the best."
"How would you have corrupted her?" Atropos asked, curiosity and disbelief mingled in her voice. "Forgive me for saying so, but she is a grown woman, she should be able to go or stay where she likes."
They all had to smile a bit at the joke, Underworld humor was definitely better once you'd stayed there a while.
"The thought of the Underworld lying dead is...a little unsettling," Clotho said. "I remember when it was crowded with shades. It's hard to imagine it all but empty."
"Good or bad interesting?" Lachesis asked, ever the mother inquiring about the activities of the ones she cared about. "I imagine it's definitely different."
"I don't blame you," Atropos said. "They're getting shakier day by day."
"You should've heard the argument me and Lachesis had with her to convince her we needed an account for the shop," Clotho chimed in. "Lots of shouting. I think a shoe got thrown."
"That was you, you twit," Atropos laughed. "You two were so frustrated with me, it was kind of funny."
"She doesn't like that...what do they call it, hip-hop, does she?" Lachesis asked, pulling a face. "We hear people driving around with loud, booming bass at 3 a.m., it's woken us up more than once." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
unseenone 2011-01-19 07:43 am (local) (link) Select He smiled as he listened. It was strange in a way. His realm had hosted these three, probably the most important parts of the Pantheon. All things had come to Hades in the end. It made him wonder who had truly been in charge. He shrugged to the question, "don't ask me. I think she's convinced of it though. Granted I didn't exactly go the right way about courting my wife, but I've made up for that error. Persephone is the apple of her mother's eye."
He sighed, "it is unsettling, but there is still life. Ironic as that is. Cerberus and my Erinyes now sit above ground. They seem to like it." He nodded, "it is different. And interesting in a way that it's more amusing then watching paint dry."
He smirked then sighed, "thankfully no. I am planning on calling for Orpheus and letting her hear actual music. But this world is new to her. I indulge her. W've found her a bodyguard now, which makes my life easier knowing she is safe when she leaves the door." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) This is me playing extremely late catch-up D: relentless_fate 2011-01-24 03:47 pm (local) (link) Select "You'd think we would have learned by now, not to ask questions of the gods," Clotho mused. "It just ends up making our brains hurt."
"You certainly have," Lachsis said. "The fact that she wishes to stay is a testament to that."
"If it was ever empty, people would start talking about the end of the world, like the mortals are always going on about," Atropos added.
"Ironic, maybe, but...comforting in a strange way," Clotho replied. "It still functions the way it did all those centuries ago, a familiar thing in the midst of all this change."
"I think even doing the books for the shop is more amusing than watching paint dry," Atropos laughed. "But in both cases, it gives us something to do."
"Oh good," Lachesis smiled. "Hearing Orpheus would be a treat indeed."
"Who did you get for her bodyguard?" Atropos asked. "One of the heroes that are still running around?"
