WHO: The Keres & Moros
WHEN: Saturday night
WHERE: Moros' apartment
WHAT: Sibling doooooooom (but not all that doomy)
WARNINGS: tba, mentions of death

The stitches were gone.

It spoke much of their situation that Nosoi had allowed Lugra to keep them out, but everything was changed now. Lugra had become their voice. Kakoi had not returned and Lugra was fairly sure that she wouldn't return. She had gone down to Hades to search for her, but nor was their sister there.

Once there had been thousands of Keres and they had haunted the battlefields, but now there was only two.

And soon there would be one.

Then none.

Lugra didn't mourn it. It was the way of the world. All things had their death coming, even death itself. The Keres were nothing but agents of Fate and Lugra would follow that will until the day she was gone.

(She worried, sometimes, what would happen if she were to go next. Nosoi wasn't right in the head - any fool could see that - and she didn't always remember their role. It was sometimes only herself and Kakoi who reminded her that they weren't indiscriminate murderers, but part of a very delicate balance.)

She watched Nosoi knock against their brother's door, rapping out a tuneless beat against the wood with her sharp nails. When it grew too cold outside they decided to come to him, less suspicious than a hotel room.

Moros hadn't been expecting visitors at all, especially given that the whole ward staff knew tomorrow was his day off, and that someone had better be dying while they were on the phone with him before they called him in. So when the rapping on his door started, he was a little grumpy. But then again, when wasn't he a little grumpy.

He opened the door to find Lugra and Nosoi on the other side, Lugra minus the stitches he'd seen her with since the 70's. And they were his favorite siblings, so he stood back to let them inside, closing the door after them.

"To what do I owe the pleasure of two of the Darknesses visiting me?" he asked.

"Cold cold!" Nosoi sing-songed, making her way into the apartment and inspecting things with various sounds of interest. Lugra gazed after her sister for a few moments and then, turned her piercing eyes on their brother.

"It was this or a hotel." Lugra's voice was gravel over bone, husky and dark. "Nosoi chose you."

Nosoi though had forgotten all about the two of them and had found instead the TV and got it on. She now sat cross legged in front of it, forehead pressed to the moving images.

"That would be New York in the winter," he replied, keeping an eye on her as she trailed around, listening to Lugra at the same time.

"Well don't I feel special," he said with a smirk. "But you guys can stay if you want, gods know I've got the space."

He glanced over at Nosoi sitting way too close to the TV, shaking his head in a fond way. "Still nothing from Kakoi?" he asked.

Lugra saw no reason not to stay and she nodded. It had always been Kakoi who was the most uncomfortable with staying in one place for too long. Lugra had thought she agreed but it turned out now that she truly didn't care.

At his question Lugra looked over to their sister and then nodded her head in the other direction so they he would follow her away from the other Ker. She didn't like to speak of such things in front of Nosoi as it sent her into a state.

"I don't think Kakoi will come back," Lugra said without emotion or expression. "She isn't in the underworld and I've seen nothing to suggest she will return."

He followed her lead, his eyebrows making a run for his hairline as she told him Kakoi probably wasn't going to come back. "Well...shit," he said at last. Ever since antiquity, there had been lots of Keres, and even after they'd become a triad, that was just how it had been. But to hear that it was most likely just going to be the two of them now...well, it was a little jarring.

"Shit," he said again. "No sign of her at all? Maybe it's just taking longer for her to come back than usual. It took me six months once."

"Then maybe she will," Lugra said, although she didn't sound like she thought the idea likely. "It's only been four months since the Earth Mother killed her."

Shifting where she stood, Lugra peered out to check that Nosoi was still captivated by the TV before looking at Moros again. "I don't feel her, not anywhere. Even when we take the souls below and feast. Nosoi becomes distressed when she remembers her absence."

He shrugged. "I don't pretend I know how any of this works. I just shove the souls in your direction most of the time. But maybe she just needs some more time."

"Nosoi becomes distressed at lots of things, frequently," he reminded her. "But yeah, this one's kind of a biggie. And you'd think the souls going below would draw her out, even if nothing else did."

Lugra might have shrugged, but that was a gesture beyond her scope. She was too removed from humanity for such things.

"Nosoi is difficult to control on my own," Lugra admitted. "She tries to take lives that haven't been assigned to us." As a Ker, Lugra knew her place. The other gods may kill and maim as they pleased, but the Darknesses had a set role. And if the last year should have taught the underworld gods anything, it was that straying from set rules led to disaster. Hades' refusal to stick to the old ways had gotten Kakoi killed.

"I don't think there is enough Greek blood left to sustain our presence. In Greece were never hungered," Lugra said and there was sadness in her voice. "Here in this country, in these times, we starve."

Fuck," he muttered. "Well, like I said, you guys are welcome to stay here, and if I can, you know, help somehow, tell me." Only to the Black Dooms or Elpis would he make this kind of offer.

"There isn't," he agreed, a shade mournfully. "I think the only reason I'm still around is because I'm an idea that's firmly embedded in the mortal's minds, even if they don't know my name." He shrugged. "None of us are what we used to be. Not even close."

The idea of 'help' was an unfamiliar concept to Lugra on the whole, although she'd heard it screamed thousands of times. They all wanted someone to help, but no one did. Lugra didn't know why they kept screaming. "We'll stay for a time," Lugra said with a nod. "It's too cold outside now."

"Thanatos wishes to find us all more worship," she said to Moros, sounding a little doubtful of it. "He... worries about our disappearance." She made it sound as though Thanatos might have grown a little soft in the head to think she way. Lugra liked Thanatos - just as she liked the other Kers and Moros - but if they disappeared she wouldn't mourn or wish that there had been another way. The end must come and the threads must be cut.
