WHO: Shesmu & Sekhmet
WHEN: Monday afternoon
WHERE: Their apartment, LA
WHAT: Cute family times
WARNINGS: likely nothing.
Shesmu wasn't exactly sure that he was a good dad. He loved his new daughter, as much as he was capable of - he knew that - but he'd never had parents himself, never had any sort of family. He was a demon-thing that had only ever lived in Duat and existed to serve. He'd never been born, never been a child. Shesmu had just happened. So the only ideas of parenthood he had came from TV and movies and watching the other gods, but even he knew he was missing something.
But he also knew that when he went away south to check on his vineyards, he wanted only to be back with Sekhmet and their daughter. That was the case today as he unlocked the apartment and made his way inside, calling out to his lioness as he did. The last afternoon sun cast shadows across the apartment but he suspected if he followed the light he'd find his family.
Sekhmet took motherhood in a way that may worry mortals. Anything that would hurt her girl would be killed without mercy, but she wasn't very hands on. She knew her daughter was loved, and it was enough. What she could not give, Hathor did.
So when Shesmu left she knew he'd return, and despite her young age she knew her daughter knew the same. When she heard his voice she smiled before responding and let the girl make her way to her father. Many mothers would fret, but not her. Anouke was the child of Gods, she'd be fine.

Anouke was growing so fast, so quickly. He hadn't expected her to be crawling already from everything he'd read, but he supposed it made sense as the child of two immortal warriors. His little girl was going to be incredible.
"Hello," he said to Anouke, picking up the awkward and beautiful little bundle. He smiled over at Sekhmet. "All okay while I was away?"

She still smiled, still not understanding why he worried so. In her mind, he was doing wonderfully. "She likes you." Her tone was joking, but she was pleased to see him. "As ever. Winter brings calm." At least for her. Summer made her blood burn too brightly, made her too eager for a kill.
She kept to her spot in the sun, taking in the last rays. "Did you find your vineyards alright?" She had no idea how that all worked, but it was his thing and something he enjoyed so she tried to keep up.

"I'm glad she likes me," Shesmu said, but he was smiling at Anouke when he said it and then kissed the top of her head. Coming over towards Sekhmet he said, "yeah, they're fine." He leaned down to kis his goddess, still holding their child. (Anouke had started pulling on his hair with interest.) "I missed you."

"As I missed you," she returned his kiss before giving her child a look. "Enough of that." She held the gaze until her child stopped pulling on Shesmu's hair before making room for the two. "Come sit. Let me enjoy the fact you are back and mine again." She grinned, "further celebrations are held after she goes to sleep."

"I like the sound of that a lot," Shesmu said, a small growl in his voice and a smile on his face. He sat down beside Sekhmet, putting the baby on the floor in front of them so she could enjoy the sunlight. "I'm all yours."

Chuckling she set her head on his shoulder, "I imagined you would say that." Nodding she kept an eye on the girl. She was behaved well enough and there were no direct concerns but she liked keeping the small thing in her line of sight. "As I am yours." She rather liked this. It was as close to perfect as one could get.

Her ran a hand over her hair and thought - when he leaned his face against the dark tresses - that he could smell the distant burning sands of home. But mostly he figured that was in his head and Sekhmet probably just smelled like whatever shampoo Hathor bought.
"Wish we could take her home," Shesmu said after watching Anouke for a bit. "Not Egypt, but real home, when it was Kemet." He shrugged. "At least one day she can travel there and see what's left and by that time she'll have seen Duat."

She sighed and watched the child. "Had I more power, I'd give it to her." Sekhmet was fortunate. She was still remembered and praised. Not always in the right way, but mortals still gave her her due. She wanted to show the girl Mennefer, before it became Memphis. Wanted to show her Karnak, before the sands had reclaimed it.
But she nodded and curled closer to her beloved. "She can, and I wonder." She paused. "Wonder if she can travel to the land of the dead without needing a guide. She is part of it, with your blood in her, so I wonder."

"So would I," Shesmu said, watching the baby. He'd grown rather protective and paternal over the little squishy ball of humanity. He was used to being unattached to anything mortal, but their girl was.
"I guess we're going to have to wait," Shesmu considered. "It's going to take time before we'll know anything of what she's capable of."
