WHO: Elijah Voorhies, Will Scarlet, Friar Tuck, Robin Hood, Michael WHEN: Thursday, late afternoon WHERE: Fight ring WHAT: Rescue WARNINGS: Violence
It had been nearly three days since the fight ring had been sent into lockdown, but to Elijah, it felt like weeks. At first there had been warm porridge to fill their bellies, but without explanation suddenly Will said he couldn’t do it any more. And Elijah wanted to ask why, or beg for him to keep trying, but honestly Will did not seem like he was in the mood to handle that very well.
Things between them had been a bit icy since. The screams and shouts from the cells around them never seemed to stop, and sleep was so hard to get with all the noise. The cells grew colder and it seemed like no one was bothering to heat them any more. Elijah was just thankful they had water and a toilet at least. But all they could do was sit there, and without sleep, there was no escaping the growing hunger, or the growing fear that no one was coming for them.
Hundreds of times over the past day or so, the question of whether or not Will really thought someone was coming for them died in Elijah’s throat. He knew he shouldn’t ask, because how would Will know any more than he did? But god this was awful. Part of him wanted to join in on the screaming and bellowing of starving men, but he saved his voice for now. Instead he curled up on his cot, his arms wrapped around himself, and he tried to focus on anything except how hungry he was.
