WHO: Asteria & Hecate
WHEN: Wednesday evening
WHERE: Hecate's home
WHAT: Asteria is possessed by Care Bears.

Asteria woke as the sun began to sink in the sky and she blinked at the last shards of daylight breaking through the gaps in the curtains.

Phoebe was here. The memory of being with her mother in the night time streets of New York brought a creeping smile to her lips but she didn't yet move from bed, but instead waited for the night to slip a little more over the city. Eventually she did get up though, dressing and leaving the bedroom that Hecate had given to her.

Hecate. Her daughter. Her little girl.

She would make this right, just as Phoebe knew she could. If her own mother had faith in Asteria then she would hold tight to that faith and let it guide her through the world and back to the woman she wanted to be. She had been a Titan, one of the almighty, but in her strength there had still lay gentleness. Asteria could find it again.

Hecate was in the kitchen when Asteria came in and she nodded a greeting to her. "Good evening," she said. She would have to tell Hecate that Phoebe wanted to see her, but not yet. Asteria wanted to keep Phoebe for herself, just for a little while longer.

The closer it came to Samhain, the more in tune Hecate was with her ghosts. Her name was whispered more during these days, which made her bright with power. She half hoped that when Zeus woke up and called for her, she'd stand a chance of fighting the Thunder King. Then again, she'd promised someone to bring over a spirit to the material world, and it would drain her. But it was worth it, if she could help someone.

When she heard her mother she grinned, feeding the last bits of bacon to her dogs. She spoiled the animals, mainly because she could. and there was always more. "Evening mama, sleep well?" Hecate understood that Asteria needed time, and there was plenty of that now. "There's dinner and cider. I had pancakes, but then Hypnos started to work and he has puppy eyes." She shrugged, "I can make more."

"I'm not really hungry," Asteria said, standing in the doorway as she watched her daughter. The things that Phoebe had said were on the Titaness' mind and although every nerve in her body screamed to keep distance from even her own daughter, Asteria knew that Phoebe had always been a wise mother.

So, swallowing the lump in her throat, Asteria took a few steps forward and wrapped her arms around her daughter, resting her chin on Hecate's head.

She'd nodded, starting on something new, but then her mother was hugging her. And Hecate knew how difficult that was for Asteria. She didn't know why, or how, but she just smiled and leaned into the hug. She didn't return it, not wanting to spook her mother, but smiled. "Hi mama."

Asteria wanted to pull away already but she didn't. Instead she kept her arms around her daughter and took a deep breath, the scent of Hecate's hair strange and familiar at once.

"I love you, Hecate," Asteria said quietly. "I always have and always will."

Despite really wanting to, Hecate didn't hug her mother back. Asteria would need more time for that. So she smiled and inhaled the scent that was so very much her mother and took in all she could.

"I know mama," her voice was soft, "I will always know. And I love you. Always."

Asteria drew back a little and pressed a kiss against Hecate's forehead, lingering before removing herself from the embrace completely. She stayed close though, and after a moment said, "I'm going to be better at this. I'm going to make myself your mother again."

Hecate gave a bright smile and nodded, "I know mama. You're always going to be my mother, but I understand. Whatever you need, I will help." For just a moment she set her hand on Asteria's before drawing back with a smile. "But let me know if you do this for Papa. I'll euh, be not here."

Asteria gave Hecate a small, quiet smile. "My focus is on you," she told her daughter. "Everyone else will come later, but you are the one I have time to make up for. I was taken from you too early."

She smiled, glad to have the advantage for a moment. Her father would understand. "I know, but there's time now." As long as Zeus didn't decide to make her a lightning rod for a few weeks anyway. "I am going to do something for Samhain. I'm helping a spirit over to this plane. I promised I'd try anyway. I could use help. I'm not sure how well it will go."

"What power I still command over the spirit world is yours," Asteria promised her with a solemn nod. It was the least she could do, especially after teaching her the arts of spirit reading.

"Thank you mama," she smiled to her mother, glad she'd have that support. In more then likelihood she could do this alone. She just didn't want to. "Are you sure you're not hungry?"

"Perhaps I am," Asteria relented. "Go on, make me something then. I like to watch you cook, it's a still I was never very good at myself." She and Perses had been warriors and necromancers, things which didn't bode well for kitchen skills.

She grinned, getting started on some pancakes. She liked them, and she hoped her mother would too. "I picked it up from Demeter." She frowned, "odd question. If anyone took me, kidnapped me, when I was still young would you mourn or come kill whoever it was that took me away?"

Asteria looked across at her daughter seriously and without the slightest trace of joking about it said, "I would tear down everything in the world to get you back and then rip the limbs from whoever had dared to touch you. Nothing short of my own death would have stopped me from getting you back."

She smiled and lowered her head, "yeah. I know. Nice to hear it though." She let the pancakes cook and glanced to her mother. "After we're done with the Ghosts, I have to go check in with Hades. Make sure the missus is settling in." She shrugged. She took her duty as minister as serious as she could. "I think you could like him. He's not like most Olympians."

"You should have been ruler of the Underworld," Asteria said. "Your father and I hoped for you to take that role and be Queen there. Hades, the Olympian, took that place from you."

She sighed, "no. He didn't. Mama I kept my titles, including the one of Anassa eneroi." She turned to look at her mother. "Zeus didn't take away an inch of anything that was once mine, neither did Hades. He belongs there, and it needed a judge. We made an arrangement. I know you wanted me to be Queen mama, but I can't be one. Hades is good at what he does. If I was down there, I couldn't do what I do now. For that, Hades gets my respect. It's not like he came in and said 'this is mine now'. The poor boy had just gotten through a war and didn't exactly get the nicest of deals. I taught him what he should know and like I said. He fits. If he hadn't the underworld would have tossed him out. It accepts him."

Asteria watched Hecate with interest as she spoke and then, after silence had hung in the air for a few long moments, she asked, "do you have feelings for him?"

She blinked and decided to turn the pancakes off before she ruined them. "Sort of? I did anyway, a while ago." Before Hermes anyway. "We had a thing. A very brief thing. If he was Titan-blooded I'd have wanted him a s a sibling. He's a lot like us mama." She smiled. "He's my friend. The first one I made after the war. And he's lonely." She shrugged. "I tend to take in strays."

Asteria liked that Hecate was honest with her, even after all their time apart. "Then I'll meet him," Asteria finally said. "If he's your friend and a man who you thought worthy of taking as a lover, then I should like to meet him. Olympian blood or no," she added to the end, because she really didn't like the Olympians.

She grinned, "thanks mama. And if it helps, he's more like Rhea then an Olympian." She had half sort of memories of the other Titan goddess. And Hades tended to be such a gloomy sort she had little to no choice but to try and cheer him up. And she could work on having her parents and Hermes in the same area without one trying to murder the other.

Asteria had never had any problems with her aunt Rhea (although she'd never spent much time with the elder Titan) so perhaps she could find a way to tolerate Hades.

"You don't need to justify your choices to me," Asteria told her daughter not harshly. "You are your own woman, and one that has survived without a mother for most of your life."

"I know," she smiled to her mother. "But I want you to be a part of my life. I know you won't accept everything I've done, have yet to do, or will do." She shrugged, "I just want you to be here, and listen to your opinion. I may decide to do what I feel is right for me, but I want to know your opinion regardless."

"That you would do what you believe is right, regardless of what I say, is exactly who I always raised you to be." Asteria smiled at Hecate. "I've not failed completely as a mother that you have such strength."

She smiled, "never mama." then she paused, because she wasn't sure if her mother knew. Hecate had had long years to reconcile herself with her own failings. "Mama," she frowned, "yours and dad's line. It stops with me. I don't know if you knew that."

"I know," Asteria said with a single nod. "If we were still in power, this might upset me in some way. But now... there is little left and it seems fitting that the strongest of the line becomes the end of it." She didn't consider that Leto's children were truly part of of Phoebe's line, being Olympians. Hecate was her truest granddaughter as Asteria saw it.

"Did you wish for children?" Asteria asked her.

She sighed and lowered her head. "Sometimes. I still do on occasion, but I know it's not meant for me." She finished with the pancakes and handed a plate to her mother. "I have the puppies to fuss over." and she had Hermes' kids that came and went. "And I didn't want secrets."

"You can," Asteria nodded. "And you will, very soon." She didn't know exactly when, but Hecate deserved to know her maternal grandmother. "Phoebe is... much like you, in some ways. She lights up wherever she goes, and she smiles easily. She is the brightest thing that I know," Asteria said and the love was clear in her voice. "No star can compare to her."

Hecate loved her grandmother already, if only because this Phoebe was making her mother smile in a way she hadn't seen Asteria smile in a long time. "I look forward to meeting her then. She sounds pretty cool."
