Sometimes, despite Luna's delightful and intelligent company, there were things that Merlin had to read over that could not be interrupted. The whereabouts of that demon who stole his books, for instance. He didn't want Luna mixed up in that, but he had to find where the sneaky little cunt had disappeared to. Or, things regarding Rosario. Not that he thought Luna would get jealous or make assumptions, but it was just easier not to cross the streams so to speak. And then there was young Kaden, who really was coming along as a reliable and sturdy hand about the place. The boy seemed to be growing into himself at last, which was a relief to see.
Or, he was just reading an old grimoire and it would be highly dangerous for a mere mortal to read anything of it over his shoulder, which is why, as Luna moved up behind him, he drew down the ribbon bookmark, closed the heavy tome, and turned to look at his lovely concubine with a smile.
"Highly interesting," he said, turning the chair and leaning back so there was space for Luna to settle on his lap. "You look refreshed; was your soak restorative?"
Luna was burning the candle at both ends lately, and he had to admit that outside of missing her company at times, he was a little worried about her. Her mistress and master had her chasing her tail constantly. It was going to wear her out, and there were only so many restorative brews he could give her before the efficacy began to wane.
