"I've seen folks swimming round Pharaoh Lake," Rosario said. She'd never been game to go herself. She didn't mind getting a little dirt under her fingernails, but it was one thing to go tramping round the wilderness in thick jeans and heavy boots and quite enough to strip down to a swimsuit. When she thought of wading into a swimming hole, her mind immediately went unbidden to all the potential creepy crawlies and hidden dangers that might be lurking at the bottom of the pond. "Bet it's real pretty on the shore at night. It's the one thing that sucks 'bout living in a city, we never get to see the night sky the way it's meant to be seen." There were almost certainly other things that sucked about living here, if she actually thought about it – the cost of everything, for one – but that was the one lingering at top of mind right now.
