"And I love you," Persephone told him, with all the warmth and adoration that this half of the year imbued her with. She was so lucky to have his arms around her and his lips against hers. She'd ended up very fortunate with this marriage in the end, with so many pairings amongst the gods being unhappy and conflict-filled things. Maybe it was because they had gotten all the horror and anger and betrayal out so early that they were now able to have such peace. Not all women could say they were so respected by the man they were with.
With those thoughts, Persephone found her mind drifting towards Luna, the human girl who reminded Persephone a little of herself. Yes, Persephone had been quiet and innocent where this girl seemed tough and proud, but Persephone had recognised the perilous position Luna was in from the first moment they met, when she'd seen her taken from room to room by gods at a party to be used as a toy. Neither Peitho or Hermes were known to play gently with their toys, and Persephone had brought up her concerns to her one true minister in this world: Hecate.
That had been how Persephone ended up meeting the girl again, Luna contacting her (through Hecate) to ask questions about plants for the Staten Island house that was being turned into a refuge. While Luna talked about it with great animation Persephone had wondered if the mortal girl realised that, in part, Hecate was clearly building it for her.
Probably not. Luna seemed, for all her quiet strength, to have a low opinion of her worth. It came out in the way she spoke of her position, in the way she seemed to allow everything. Persephone had once been forced to allow anything and everything to happen to her body and soul, to be taken advantage of and be the vessel for another's pleasure no matter what she wanted for herself.
Persephone understood, at least in small part, Luna.
"Let's have Luna around for dinner," Persephone finally said, realising she'd been quiet as she thought about it. Hades was fond of the girl as well, which made things simpler for Persephone who wanted to keep an eye on her. Persephone wondered if Luna realised the impression she had made on the powerful gods around her, with the likes of the queen of the dead and the crossroad goddess both watching carefully for the moment when she needed aid.
Persephone had not shared her slightly protective thoughts about the girl with Hades, but she wondered if her husband had spotted it anyway in the few times all three of them had been together. "I'd like to hear how her projects are going."
