But – maybe because he'd taken pity on her, or maybe because she was the only conversational option around right now – or maybe even because he was one of those unfathomable people who liked talking to strangers – Cathal threw her a bone instead. It was a corny joke, but the lilting accent and the crooked slant of his smile made it kind of charming. And corny meant she had an easy rejoinder: "Oh yeah. Yeah, Texas was definitely gonna be my first guess. By way of... I'm thinking Belgium?"
