"Finally got myself a real job again," Marian said, with something of a relieved sigh. "Which is a relief, since I've been burning through my savings over the last year. And I'm one of the only ones of us who actually believes in savings. But then, I'm usually the one who has to bail the rest of them out." She smiled slyly at Lancelot, well knowing this role in the band.
It was fortunate that the Fox didn't cost them anything to stay in, seeing as Marian had managed to convince the city that it was both (a) uninhabited and abandoned but also (b) a government entity they should keep paying utilities on. The minute anyone looked a little too closely into those conflicting details, the Fox was going to be gone. But for now and hopefully for the future, it would be safely in Marian's hands. The mind-numbing bureaucracy of a city the size of New York meant that so many things fell through the cracks, for good or for ill.
