"I got called away," Avery said, glancing away for a moment. "To cover some politician photo op thing. It's why the jacket." He flicked his lapel. It didn't hurt to gloss over that he'd been texting her and she hadn't replied, and he'd been thinking he'd have no hope finding her in the parade crowd. And he'd been right, really.
