WHO: Erato and Hybris

WHERE: Hybris’ Secret Torture Lair

WARNINGS: More of the torture stuff

This was the actual, literal worst day of Erato’s entire life. As if she was in any condition to spring at Hybris, to be released so cautiously. Slowly, she clumsily unbuckled her other hand, and then sat up to release her feet, all the while sniffling and hiccupping with tears. With an ungainly fall to the floor, she pulled herself to the mattress and wrapped the thin old blanket around herself, her hand shaking when she came back to look at the cuts. They’d stopped bleeding, mostly. She had nothing clean to cover them with though. If only she was as resourceful as her sisters, she might be able to fashion something to press down on the wounds and help it to heal, but all she wanted to do was curl up into a ball and cry.

The light in the cell stayed on all night, periodically flickering at no fixed interval, making it very hard to get much rest. Erato pulled the gurney over to try and block the light out as she lay underneath it, but it barely helped, affording her a fitful couple of hours. She had no way of telling how long she’d been in there either. The bucket in the corner smelled bad too, making her nose wrinkle, but she couldn’t have held it in any longer. The sharp smell of pee contributed to keeping her awake too. And on top of that, the cuts on her chest stung and throbbed, making her wince and whimper every time she had to move and they pulled. Dried blood crusted on her skin, making her itch. She tried to use her fallen tears to clean away the blood, but the salt made the wound sting and then she cried even more.

By the time Hybris came back in the morning, Erato was exhausted, aching, cold and miserable, her eyes red and sore from crying. She did not look her usual delicious self, first thing in the morning, not. at. all.

	Hybris grinned at Erato as she swung open the door to the cell. She had a gun in her hands, trained at Erato so the muse didn’t just try to jump her and make a break for it. “Good morning, sunshine!” Hybris said cheerfully. She had had the benefit of a full night’s rest, and breakfast and coffee. “How do you feel about a nice, warm bath, hmm?” (Reply to this) (Thread)

	Oh, a bath, a bath would be wonderful. Erato couldn’t help perking up at the thought, before she realised that it wouldn’t be that easy. Hybris couldn’t be offering any kindness now. Wordlessly, Erato shrank into her blanket, with no thought of attempting to fight back right now. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	“Up,” Hybris said, waving the gun at her. She had already filled up the hydrotherapy tub, but it was a nice, warm temperature at the moment. She would be able to lock Erato into it and turn the temperature up slowly. “Come with me. Now. 	Slowly, resentfully, Erato got to her feet, dropping the blanket to the mattress. With her shoulders hunched, she moved where Hybris wanted her to go, and Hybris’ crude threats only reinforced Erato’s assumption that nothing good would be coming of this. “You don’t have to be so mean,” she muttered. “You don’t have to be such a pussy ass bitch, but we all have our burdens,” Hybris said, pointing to the steaming tub. It had a high sides and a little trap door that you closed and locked over it so that the person inside the tub couldn’t get out until they were let out. The tub was in a line of five like it, and attached to the wall with a temperature dial beside it which was reading a balmy 100 degrees - the temperature of a nice jacuzzi. “Get in. You get in, I’ll give you something to drink.”

Erato eyed the contraption nervously, not liking the look of the door that closed, and being trapped in such a confined space. She tugged her cardigan closer around her body, not wanting to undress in front of Hybris to get in either. But she was thirsty, and probably trying to drink the bathwater was a bad idea. “What is it?” she asked, reluctant to do as Hybris said.

	It was not just a bathtub, obviously, and Erato scowled at the floor. Slowly she started to slip her cardigan off her shoulders, and folded it carefully before setting it down. “Turn around,” she said, reaching around the back of her skirt to undo the clasp. Erato sighed and rolled her eyes, because no, that didn’t help, not at all. She turned her back on Hybris since Hybris wouldn’t turn, and undressed down to her underwear, her clothes in a neat careful stack. She shivered on the cold, bare floor, hugging her arms around her body.

“I’m not taking my underwear off,” she said, not caring if it got wet. She feared that Hybris would steal her clothes while she was locked in, and she didn’t want to be stuck naked in that horrid cell at Hybris’ whim.

“Whatever,” Hybris shrugged. She pointed to the tub and watched Erato climb in. Then Hybris closed the lid and locked it, so the only bit of Erato that was exposed was her head. Quickly she pulled her shirt back on. “I’m going to have to help you,” she explained. She had a bottle of water with her and she held it out to Erato’s lips. Her hands were locked in the tub so they were of no use. “Drink.”

	Oh, she did not like this at all, not one bit, despite how the water soothed her skin in some places, and made her feet feel burning until her body temperature acclimated to the water. The water bottle on her lips was a relief, and Erato sighed at the refreshing drink. It was so good. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

“There you go,” Hybris pulled the water bottle away, and then moved to the temperature gauge. She inspected it and gave it a little twirl, turning the heat up a few degrees. Steam escaped from the pipes behind the tub and the whole machine gave a hum to show it was heating.

“I wonder if I can boil you alive like a lobster? Will your flesh fall right off your bones?”

	Erato let out a hiccup of shock. "What? No!" From underneath, she clawed at the edge of the lid, trying to find a way of opening it from the inside. Was she imagining the water getting hotter? 	Hybris watched, fascinated as the water heated up. She spun the dial again, planning to draw this out. Let Erato acclimate and then turn it up even more. Maybe tomorrow she would try a bath of ice? “How much money do you have in your bank account?” Hybris asked, tapping her fingers idly on the lid of the tub. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

What? Money? Erato looked up at Hybris in confusion and fear. The cut on her shoulder was stinging, having opened up with her struggling. "I don't know, some?" She honestly didn't know exactly. She wasn't very fiscally minded, and she employed an accountant to do all the boring stuff for her. She had enough to live the life she wanted to live, and that was what mattered. A steady supply of floaty floral dresses and pink macarons to snack on was all she asked for. But Hybris looked like she wanted an answer, so she hazarded a guess. Oh boy it was getting warm in here. "Like, ten thousand?"

“Nooooo, you’ll hurt my cats,” Erato said, objecting to the thought of Hybris in her personal space. “It’s a private building, you can’t go in.” She had no idea what Hybris would end up doing with all her things , and could picture her tossing the contents of Erato’s vanity all over everywhere to find the pretty jewellery she owned. Money was only money, but she’d collected lovely pieces from all around the world. Some were gifts from old lovers, and irreplaceable in terms of sentimental value.

Meanwhile, she was starting to feel sweaty and steamy and uncomfortable, steam venting up the gap her neck was through and making her face clammy and damp. A bead of sweat was running down the side of Erato’s nose and tickling her dreadfully.

Oh- who was feeding her cats? Her poor babies, they must be so hungry by now! Erato grimaced, feeling dread at losing her pretty memories to Hybris’ grasping hands, but the lives of her beloved pets were more important. And the water was getting uncomfortably warm. With a heartbroken sniffle, she closed her eyes and looked away.

“My keys are in my handbag,” she said, shifting uncomfortably in the water. “Please will you ask my upstairs neighbour to leave food out for my cats? I don’t- I don’t want them to go hungry. Please don’t boil me up. Ow- it’s getting hot-” She was trying to lift her body upwards but it was very difficult.

	If Hybris didn’t like cats she would have told Erato to fuck off. But she did, so she shrugged. “Yeah alright,” she said, leaning down to put her at eye level with Erato. “I’ll make sure your cats don’t die. Can’t say the same for you. 	“Stop! Stop it!” Erato cried with an edge of panic. The water was starting to get unbearably hot, as if just seeing Hybris' hand on the controls was enough, and she struggled harder against the hatch at the top, water slopping noisily as she kicked. “My vanity! Erato was hitting her hands against the top and whimpering in distress, trying to get her heels underneath her so she could push upwards harder with her whole body, but her feet kept slipping. The edges of the tub were starting to chafe on the sides of her neck and the cut on her shoulder throbbed, but the hot water was the greater threat. “Necklaces and things? Bracelets- earrings- please, I’ve had enough, please!” Oh, her plants! Her poor plants, her orchids and the beautiful monstera, they would dry out, oh it was awful!

	“Not quite yet, you haven’t,” Hybris answered. She went to grab Erato’s clothes and drag them away. She wasn’t getting them back in a hurry. What Hybris did bring back for her, was a hospital gown, yellowed with age and smelling of mothballs. “I got you a new dress, do you like it?” (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
