"Some time and some food," Nicholas said, after the fries beeped. "Just a second." He crossed the kitchen to dump the curly fries only a plate and grab a side of sauce for her. Then he carried her lunch back and set it in front of her.
"There. Mary, I know how-" Nicholas trailed off and looked down at his hands. "I know how it can...plague your thoughts. Or it did mine, anyway. And I didn't even die. If I can do anything for you, I'm here." She had saved his life so many times, he would do literally anything for her.
