Who: Poseidon and Daphne What: The Greek world is splitting at the seams When: Modern times Where: New York Warnings: TBD
The harsh New York environment had started to change him. A darkness surrounded him not unlike that of the past, but now it was as if Eros' arrow had been plucked from inside him and the grim remainder was a man that had fallen to the foolish perils of his fellow gods. He spent his time away again, not forgetting Daphne but keeping her at a distance as if his heart had grown apart from himself again. He was as cold as the deepest waters having spent too much time away from his eternal mistress. The oceans called to him and he was clouded by this smoke filled city who had enveloped him.
The Greek world was cracking under the seems, nothing had been right for years, which could quite possibly have been the underlying reasoning behind the shift. He stomped out of his office, hands in his coat pockets, boots clanking against the pavement as he stepped into the nearby cafe. He didn't even see her at first, that dark-haired beauty that had so captivated him for years. For centuries. He'd never made her his wife, now may have been the perfect time, but he was preoccupied and needed the reminder. With the rest of the pantheon out of order it disrupted the balance around them, the balance she gave him.
[info]laureltree 2011-07-19 04:21 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Nymphs learned many harsh lessons. One of them being that Gods did as they liked. So when Poseidon pushed her aside, she allowed it to hurt her, before moving on. She'd mentioned it wasn't right for him to distance himself from the oceans so much, but he wouldn't hear her. She'd picked up the pieces of her life and moved on.
She knew the pantheon was under stress, but as a nymph it barley affected her. She'd felt him before she'd seen him and just sighed, ducking her head and smiling to her current beau. She'd find an excuse for both of them to leave as soon as possible. She didn't need to be here.
[info]neptune_storm 2011-07-19 04:44 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select The ocean longed for him in the same way Daphne had, they'd reached out and he'd returned nothing but a nasty backlash. Eros had been up to his tricks again, smiting Poseidon before had been a joke, he'd never expected his poison to take both Poseidon and Daphne this far. Now they were estranged hearts in part to the pantheon's stress. Eros had also been swept in it, becoming more vindictive with his strikes. He may not have been able to pull the original love drug from the sea god and his nymph, but he could make it more painful. Poseidon's distance had only increased Eros' ability with what he thought was a fun game.
Turning from the counter Poseidon caught sight of her, that wavy dark hair caressing her face. His upper lip sneered at that sight where she was so closely perched with another. He couldn't deny the whirlwind of jealousy that pierced him at that moment, dark heart or not. In fact it only made the jealousy more vibrant, cursing her under his breath for igniting such a feeling inside of him with one look.

[info]laureltree 2011-07-19 04:58 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She rolled her eyes when she felt him watching her. Honestly she wasn't going to play this game. She wasn't going to run after him and beg him to change. He either did or didn't. If he was too stubborn for his own good, then she wasn't going to waste time on her. And if he did no want to change, he wasn't worthy of her in any case.
She gave her companion a smile and a nudge, motioning to the door before getting up and getting her things. With a smile she set her arm through his to let him lead her out of the door.

When she did get up she moved toward the door. The arm around the other male was enough to turn that sneer to a growl. So the tall Olympian followed.

[info]laureltree 2011-07-19 08:37 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She wasn't going to let him do this. He'd chosen his lot, he'd made his own bed. She wasn't going to let him bend her to his stubbornness. If he'd wanted someone who just took his moods, he should have picked someone else. She had a life beyond him.
She knew he was following and ignored him, focusing on her date and his conversation. At least mortals appreciated her.

[info]neptune_storm 2011-07-20 02:03 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select The ground cracked under his feet, like glass shattering as he followed behind them like a dark, looming shadow. He'd marked her, branded her as his own as she willed something out of him few could.
With Eros playing around, the Greek world in chaos, that temperament was darker. She played very dangerous games by ignoring him. Her attentions on some worthless mortal who held no significance. Who was she to walk away from him as if she'd not shared a part of him.
He caught the scared glance of the man she held onto as he looked over his shoulder. Poseidon gave him an unearthly grin.

He could claim he owned her as he liked, and hurt them both for moving on, but in the end she had her own will and hardly let anyone just push her around.
She glanced back to the road. Whatever part of him she'd once had he'd lost it.

[info]neptune_storm 2011-07-20 01:43 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She drove him crazy no matter how much space was put between them, part of that due to Eros and the other from where this relationship had grown on it's own. His fist clenched tightly at that hallowed look in her eyes.
He'd never hurt her, but that didn't mean he wouldn't rip this mortal of hers to pieces---starting with his limbs. She held some small ounce of power over him and that swelled to the surface every time he saw her.
This time when the ground rocked it threw them off balance when Poseidon still stood not detered. Car alarms went off, tress shaking, and that look of fear in her mortals eyes. Poseidon approached then in the middle of that tremor circling them and giving her a look of his own.
"This is what you've reduced yourself to?" he said sneering over the boy.

[info]laureltree 2011-07-20 07:39 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select He had put that space there, not her. When the tremor knocked them off their feet she hissed in anger before setting a hand on the mortal's arm. "Run," she told him. "This isn't your fight." She was glad when the mortal was able to pick himself up and run away, before she looked up to him. "Who are you to speak? Look at what you've reduced to. You gave me up Poseidon, you pushed me away. I am not a fish, to dry up on land when the sea casts me out. I adapt. I adjust."
She rose, looking at him with all of her stubbornness. "I am better then you. The entire world is in turmoil and you let it happen. You allowed this city to change you. That makes you not worthy of me."

[info]neptune_storm 2011-07-20 11:11 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select His hand reached down to help her up without thinking that what he was doing was an act of kindness. He snatched it away, that vulnerable side rejected by her and her venomous mouth. His teeth bared with a hiss watching that mortal boy run and near commanding the waves of the nearby bay to suffocate him into his watery grave. The action was dimmed once Daphne continued to speak, quite easily as if she had the right to say those words to him.
He took an angry step forward looking down on her with hateful eyes. She'd opened up a soft side and then he'd pulled away from it once the idea of losing power blinded him again. The Greek world was turning up on it's head with the disorganization between he and his brothers and sisters. It had turned them all into the more hateful sides of themselves. Hades was keeping Persephone for himself, Demeter was roaming the earth without a care, Zeus was doing his usual and pulling them all underground with him.
"I am not worthy of you?" he laughed at that statement though for some reason it pinched to hear. "You are not worthy of me," he hissed, hand clenching and the pavement on the road beside them cracking down the middle as he did so.
The lack of his oceans had started to dry him up, she spoke nothing but truth.

You're too proud to admit that you need the sea. I tried telling you this, that it's part of you but you know what? You obviously are too stupid to pay attention. Must be because I'm just a nymph." Then she smiled, "And unlike you, I still have my power. You don't."
She stepped back then, "so go on. Hurt me. Try and frighten me. Prove you're nothing more then a big bully. It won't change that I moved on. I'm not going to crawl back to you. Mortals are better then you right now." She shook her head, "and they deserve me."

He was ever changing, without any set course and yet he'd let Eros and the world crumble beneath him. He'd been slighted again but for his own foolishness. Did a lonely man ever admit that he was lonely? Or that the woman he wanted was tugging at more than just his physical desires?
The water pipes under the pavement spouted through the cracks. His anger controlling what little he had a hold on. "They are nothing to you. They are bugs under your shoe, not worth the time," he shook his head. He still wasn't admitting what really beat against his chest, and it wasn't just the infliction Eros had put on them both.

If he wasn't going to admit he was lonely or that she was right she wasn't going to bother with him.
"You had your chance. You pushed me away. Reap what you sow Poseidon. Reap what you sow."

He'd need a moment to throw his tantrum, watching as the residents around them jumped out of their vehicles, or shops at the disruption while the two of them stood within it.
Jaw clenched those usually dark blue eyes flashing with a brighter shine. No woman talked to him like that, cut him down so easy that he wanted to rip her spine through her throat and still kiss those lips.
"What have you done to me?" he said in a whisper as if the very words were an itch he couldn't scratch, burning his skin like a fire.

She ran her fingers through her hair then and gave him a sad smile, "I love you, always, but I am not in love with you anymore. You broke my heart."

[info]neptune_storm 2011-07-21 12:52 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select It was the only time he saw a woman turn her back to him and he'd let her go without so much as a heavy hand. She'd pierced something Eros could never have touched though he'd tried. He'd played his tune long ago, and as nymphs were she'd ran her course. She was still the one he wanted, but he turned to walk off in the same way, teeth grinding in his mouth, the world rumbling under his feet as he did.
In time he may be able to admit that, but now wasn't the time.
He'd find her again.

He did. He wasn't going to play romantic hero with flowers and chocolates, but he had brought a bracelet that she was sure to reject.

[info]neptune_storm 2011-07-21 01:39 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Love was a weakness, it twisted him into someone he wasn't used to. Someone he wasn't proud of, but in the midst of the falling down of his own pantheon he was still and always alone. Hades had his bride, Zeus had Hera, and what was Poseidon left with a wife he'd never loved who did not follow him to this time. Then there was Daphne, a little fresh water nymph that had once been a love god's joke that had turned into more than just a taunt. That was something they had both found on their own.
He stepped inside before she had the chance to shut the door or let him in. His own frown carried over but when he looked in her direction there was a shift in those dark eyes of his.
He handed her the trinket though it was almost juvenile to give gifts the way he did. He did not know any better. Poseidon had always taken what he wanted.
