Who: Poseidon and Daphne What: Continuing with their AU relationship, Daphne's boat is attacked on open sea and taken over. For days, Poseidon hasn't a clue. Where: Ocean? Daphne's boat When: Medieval times Warnings: An angry Poseidon?
It had been weeks since Poseidon had been absent from his rounds with Daphne. His wife had latched on her little claws, willing his time away from his favorite pet. It had worked for a little while until he'd gotten bored, but by then Daphne's boat had sailed off from the coast of Italy. Poseidon took care of business on the shore, buying, selling and trading to keep himself afloat.
In his absence Daphne had settled into her little home. If she'd reached out to him it had fallen on deaf ears, his mind was focused on himself right now--not in the least bit concerned for her safety. She bared his mark, that alone would hold any reprimand to any man that took interest.
Piracy wasn't at it's prime, but there were attacks on open boats without warning plundering the ships of their riches. Riches that were not always in gold and loot. The Arab pirates that had come across Daphne's boat had done damage already on the entire Mediterranean.
Daphne's ship was grand, of course it had been Poseidon's. It was enough to have it pursued and taken over.
[info]laureltree 2011-02-22 12:11 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Daphne was terrified of these men. They were different, spoke a language she could not recognize, and she could read danger in their eyes. When it had all happened she'd been on deck, chatting to the sailors. They had struggled, of course they had, but once the strangers had taken note of the woman aboard they had tried to go for her.
It had gotten ugly then. Her boat carried many riches, but she was the treasure. Every sailor knew that if anyone touched Daphne they'd die, both them and these strangers. Them for not protecting her well enough and the others for just trying.
So they had put her in a protective circle, keeping her from the hands of the strangers and one of them had set a dagger in her hands. She knew Poseidon was busy, knew she could not count on a rescue but she would still try. Desperate, she'd sliced up her hand and held it overboard, letting the blood drip into the water, hoping it would call to him.

[info]neptune_storm 2011-02-22 05:26 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select The men were uncertain of what to do, there was the promise of certain death in any direction they went. Their ship was quickly being taken over by these strange me. When Daphne lurched to the side of the ship a group of them followed.
They knew who she called, the man that had owned this ship. The one they called master. The one they feared even more than these pirates.
Poseidon had been near the harbor that afternoon, fattening on his wealth from those more and less fortunate. He was a shark, taking all that he could for his own greed.
The old man that sat at the edge of the Pompeii harbor started to chat incoherently, his mind as scrambled as his image. Poseidon ignored him but he paused for a moment dropping his purse. There was a faint smell that hit those waters, even at such a distance. He closed his eyes, focusing long enough to detect what that was. He wasn't as powerful as before, but he knew when something threatened his waters.
He needed to get closer. He was certain it was Daphne. He kicked the old man out of the way and walked into the water as if it was perfectly natural. The silver-haired goon looked down with wide eyes not sure if he'd just imagined it or not. That man had just gone under water. It was at least ten minutes before he emerged with a gulp of air. Had this still been Ancient Greece he could swim to her without question. Times were different and they were weighing heavily on his capabilities. It frustrated the water god to no end. Feeling the salt hit his nostrils he could sense her.
He'd hijack a boat, a few days time before he could reach where her ship still sat among the open water. He watched carefully for a while sensing tension from his pet. There would be bloodshed and likely not a standing body if she was harmed.

[info]laureltree 2011-02-22 05:58 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select The pirates did not know this. When she'd cut her hand, they had grabbed her throat and with a grin they had tossed her into the brig with the others. She assumed she was being fought over.
Her fingers settled on her bruised skin. Usually she liked it. It was supposed to be something she could show off, the things Poseidon did to her, now she only felt fear. Her fingers lowered to the mark on her collarbone, before settling over her stomach.
She gave the sailors a worried glance, knowing they'd die for her to keep her safe. Some out of loyalty, some out of fear for the punishment they'd get from the one they belonged to.
When her captors dragged her out of the hold to face the captain her eyes widened in fear. The man said something in his foreign tongue and grinned, which made Daphne grit her teeth. "Whatever you think of doing, don't. You will regret it." Her tone must not have pleased the man because the next thing she knew she was on the ground with a bruised cheek. She closed her eyes, praying for Poseidon to arrive before it was too late.

[info]neptune_storm 2011-02-22 06:26 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select The waves crashed against that ship while his boat still sat from a distance. They were heavy, wild and ferocious. Daphne's own sailors knew that sound, that roar of water. One man held his hands together tightly, whispering a prayer that they would come out of this alive.
The Arabic men spoke wildly, looking at the puny boat ahead and fearing nothing but what the sea had in store for them.
When Poseidon dived in, the water crashed harder a whirling noise, near deafening as it struck the side of the ship, knocking a few sailors down into it's blue depths.

[info]laureltree 2011-02-23 02:08 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select "That won't help, and you know that," she whispered to the praying sailor, feeling relief when the waters turned angry. She knew what those waves meant, knew Poseidon had heard her plea and came to ensure her safety.
She braced herself at the angry waves, watching the strangers worry over the weather and water. She huddled herself in a corner, keeping her back to a wall and watching the waves. Poseidon would be here soon, just in time. She'd have to talk him out of killing her crew, but she didn't care what he'd do to these strangers.

[info]neptune_storm 2011-02-23 04:16 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select The man seemed scared, listening to her truthful words that shouldn't have been as painful. They were, and even a seaman was at the mercy of Poseidon's wrath. The ocean was no place for a man to be prideful, not with sounds like that echoing around them.
It was eerie those waves, their call dreadful once the wind howled across the sails. The men scattered, scrambling around quickly to brace themselves on something sturdy as the boat turned near on it's side.
Echos of men screaming, broken words (in native and foreign tongue) lost by the sharp wind that spat against their faces. The water was just as hard, it's pricks as sharp as needles against their skin, many being dragged down into that bottomless pit of Poseidon's anger.
He hauled himself up on that ship, the massive waves drawing to a halt as he stood water dripping down his leather suit as if it were a part of his skin. He looked through dark lashes, long hair and a glare that shot daggers.
The men left on board huddled around, the Arab pirates pulling out their swords ready to hit this unknown attacker. Their tongue while not native to Italy, Poseidon had heard before. One that he had picked up over time in this new time that was growing around them. He wasn't unknown to anything, being a tradesman, he had picked up quite a few things. When that spat out in their language, he threw it right back, their eyes turning wide, skin ghostly.
Who was this man?
This man who stood so tall and looming, the oceans moving with him as if his very presence commanded them.

[info]laureltree 2011-02-23 04:27 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select He was showing off. Even Daphne could tell, and she'd remind him turning the boat upside down would have hurt her more. She couldn't tolerate seawater, it'd make her ill.
Yet when he spoke to the strangers she glanced to them before getting to her feet and running to her savior. He was not one for displays of affection, but she was, and she'd just been fearing for her life. He could endure her hug. Her arms wrapped around his waist, setting her head against his chest. "You came." Her fingers dug into the back of his shirt, clinging to him, "you came."
She looked up to him, "don't hurt mine." She knew he'd see the bruises on her neck and glanced to the captain of the crew, "he did that." She knew him, knew what he'd want to know. Then she hid behind him, rather not getting in the way. He'd come for her, it was enough.

[info]neptune_storm 2011-02-23 04:55 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Her crew stood behind them, with their master on the attacking end they stood a better chance. Daphne had begged for their safety, but Poseidon was hot. He felt her cling to him and while he didn't push her away he didn't once break his concentration or flinch. He stepped forward breaking himself from her grip.
His boots clanked against those wet floorboards as he marched forward slowly. The Arabs held their swords closer until he stepped that final step with his arms out, the blade just tapping against his leather coat at his chest. With one brow raised he looked down at the metal and back towards the men that were now somewhat shaking in their attack.
"Get under deck," he warned Daphne and the crew that she wanted to save so badly. He was about to wipe this deck clean.

[info]laureltree 2011-02-23 05:01 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She glanced to the men and smiled, "come on then." She guided them below deck. She did not pale with violence near, but would rather not be tossed overboard. She'd have defended herself, but she'd been scared.
And at least he was leaving her the crew. She'd have more trouble finding new sailors then he thought. Few wanted to sail under a woman's command. She settled herself in her quarters, waiting for Poseidon to re-appear. She knew what he'd do to these strangers but couldn't pity them. They had wanted to kill her and her men. They deserved his wrath.

[info]neptune_storm 2011-02-23 05:09 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select What they would hear would be horrifying. Screeches, screams, hands clawing at the floorboards as Poseidon ripped the life from each and every one of those men on board. He left no one behind, it was far too much fun for him to bury them in their own saliva before commanding the water to spill over the railings. Those waves were as much as ten foot high before they crashed down, a monster in their attack as the one who controlled them.
It rocked back and forth as choppy as before, but under his command the ship would not tip over. A few sailors down below felt queasy, holding down what they could until the eerie sounds stopped and the dead silence followed.
Dragging one of the swords the men left behind he carved a line into the floor board before stabbing it into the wood just at the entrance down under. His walk was just as slow as he went down those steps receiving stares from the entire crew he'd not silenced.
[info]laureltree 2011-02-23 05:19 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select The sounds weren't comforting, and she curled on her bed, pretending they didn't exist, and pretending she hadn't brought this fate upon them. Then again, they should have noted the mark on her chest.
When everything stopped and the boat stopped rocking, and even she'd felt queasy at the angry rocking, she rose from the bed and gently told the sailors to leave her room and get to cleaning the boat.
She could feel him approaching and watched him from the doorway, smiling to him before settling her arms around him again. He could endure this for a little bit. She needed the embrace, for her own sake. "You were just in time." She breathed in his familiar scent, feeling the power he still gave out.

He was still in that half-killer trance that would take a moment to come back down from. It was a high that he'd enjoyed more than she'd like to believe.
After a few minutes his eyes focused down on hers, grabbing her chin gently and pulling it upward to inspect her face and that light bruise that was starting to take shape.
If they'd been in Greece back in his realm of power this wouldn't have taken nearly as long to get his attention. The act alone showed some sort of care and jealousy or he'd have left her there to rot on the ship with the rest of the crew.
His thumb ran along side that cheek.

He hadn't come to see her for so long, and then the attack had occurred. Still, he was here now. It was all that mattered.
She let him pull her chin up and winced at the touch on the bruise. It hurt, and he'd never hurt her that much. "It's all right." she tried giving him a brave smile. "I'm okay. It'll heal." It could have been worse. She could have died. Smiling she set her hand on his before lowering it, knowing others were looking.
"My thanks to you for coming. I did not want my life to end at some strangers blade." Although she had a clue it wouldn't have been the only thing he'd have done to her. "Do you have to go, or can you come inside?"

She felt him take his hand and braced herself against him when he tugged her over to him. It fed her pride knowing his wife was jealous of her. Seeing Daphne was jealous of the unnamed woman herself, it seemed like excellent payback.
"Oh." she couldn't hide her smile, then shrugged. "I've no quarrel with your Lady-wife Lord. I am just pleased to see you after such a long time. Wine?"

He pulled her into his lap a more than pleased grin on his face. There was a devilish side still lurking behind those cold eyes. There was some pride in maiming those who tried to touch what was his. He waved off the wine. "Not now."

His elbow that had been arched on the arm of the chair, hand to chin dropped as he held his head back up, eyes opened. Offerings were expected to a god, even if he was no longer in the power that ancient times required. From her, however; it was little more than an offering. His curiosity got the best of him.

Eyes lowered she handed it to him. Inside was a rather large shark tooth. He always reminded her of a shark. She hoped it was fitting. Nervously she toyed with her fingers. "I found it on the beach. His wife had given him heirs, though he wasn't exactly the father figure to any of them. They were there for name purposes only and a way to spill his seed on this earth that mortals were taking over. His world.
Daphne always liked to keep him around. He had to admit he was getting used to letting her.

[info]laureltree 2011-03-04 08:06 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She knew he'd not truly care about any children she'd have, but she would. He had heirs so she didn't have to worry about that. It was a selfish thing, and she knew going home would help. The sea air was less then good for her.
With a smile she drew back, knowing how much he'd tolerate her clinging to him. He was indulging her enough today, and she appreciated it.

[info]neptune_storm 2011-03-05 06:05 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She drew back in time before he became aggravated, though now he'd used more than enough of his power that he felt light-headed. With the decline in power among the Greek gods, so did his ability to hold on to his strength afterward. Between mangling pirates and getting into Daphne's bed he closed his eyes once she moved.
His breathing so low now, if she didn't know he was resting it would be easy for it to appear otherwise.

[info]laureltree 2011-03-05 06:12 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select For a moment she did panic, but when she drew closer and still saw him breathing she relaxed. Quietly she moved to his side and settled him into her bed to let him rest. When he awoke there'd be hot food and wine for him.
While she wanted to settle down beside him she knew he would not approve. She traced her fingers along his features before drawing back to get him the food and set a course for the river of her birth. Poseidon would awake in his own time.

[info]neptune_storm 2011-03-05 06:41 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select To lack of strength near put the god in a coma, sleeping a lot longer to rejuvenate to at least half his ability. When Daphne's finger tickled against his face he did not feel even the slightest brush, breathing kept low and body unresponsive.
It was halfway into the second day before he started to stir. Everything felt like a dead weight.

[info]laureltree 2011-03-05 06:57 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Honestly she'd far from minded his presence. When she'd crawled into bed beside him to sleep herself she'd been worried. But when he had not awoken she'd curled up beside him and relished in the sheer luxury of just sleeping beside him. It was a treat.
She busied herself during the day, making it known he was not to be disturbed. When she checked on him and saw him stir she moved to his side, "Lord?"
[info]neptune_storm 2011-03-05 07:19 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Bleary eyes adjusted to the mid-day light, zoned out until he'd fully woken up to fix his shirt, leather pants and jacket. The buckles hung loose keeping the jacket open as he stood feeling refreshed.
They were further out to sea, he could smell the strong salt. He wasn't sure where she was headed but it felt familiar.

[info]laureltree 2011-03-05 07:30 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She smiled to him as he stood and offered him a glass of wine, "here, you were resting for some time." She glanced back, "do you wish for something to eat?" She had no issue with getting him something. She figured he'd need the strength.
"The ship's heading home." Her fingers brushed along the bruise that was coloring badly, "I need to heal at my father's banks."

[info]neptune_storm 2011-03-05 07:41 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select He took the glass of wine letting it simmer in his empty stomach and widen his eyes a little more. "Food, yes," the obvious answer. He was too far out to head back to the Italian coast. The promise of seeing their homeland, even if for a short time gave him a sense of empowerment.
He'd stay with her until they returned back toward Italy. If dangers lurked before, this wouldn't be the last brush of troubles she'd have. With him on board no other pirate in their right mind would mess with a ship whose sails branded his symbol.
"Change the sails," instead of the basic white they held now. He stood still downing the wine, boots on and clanking against the wooden floorboards. It was obvious in his posture he wasn't leaving anytime soon. Not the first time his wife had been alone.

[info]laureltree 2011-03-05 07:53 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select With a nod she moved out the door to call for some dinner. When she returned she paused at his words. He had not stayed this long with her for quite some time. She knew she'd enjoy having him here. "Of course Lord. I'll tell the men." Smiling she left the room to give the orders, returning with his meal and setting it on the table.
She'd celebrate this later, when she was alone. Right now her duty was to him. "They are changing the sails. Here. You should eat. Anything else?"

[info]neptune_storm 2011-03-05 08:04 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She'd stopped so suddenly he was ready to throw a quip at the stall, but she easily recovered. He picked the dates off the plate, the seas keeping the boat at a nice even pace without much disturbance.
He waved away her question. "This will do." His muscles still ached, that burn from using what energy he really didn't have in him anymore. It was slipping away with each day.
One of the sailors came down to the cabin to let Daphne and Lord Neptune that the sails were cast. He stuttered in his speech trying not to slip back up the steps when Poseidon turned him away.
"You, stay," he told Daphne. He wasn't feeling quite the conversationalist, but her company was desired.

[info]laureltree 2011-03-05 08:16 am UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select When one of her men came to tell them the sails were cast she smiled at him. Not everyone felt as safe around him as she did. Then again she knew how to balance the knife's edge of his moods fairly well.
She'd been about to leave him to his meal when he'd told her to stay. Smiling she nodded, "of course Lord." Calmly she sat down opposite of him. She'd already eaten, and never minded the quiet. She wasn't the typical woman who would stitch something. She'd much rather be doing more interesting things but everyone was too frightened of Poseidon to teach her anything.
"The cabin's yours of course," it was a subtle hint to see if he'd have her stay here or if she'd need to find a new place to sleep. "I will make sure there are fresh linens."
