Jayden had been in the bedroom he shared with Isaiah, reading his way through yet another book. He was older now and he understood why he couldn't go outside but god he hated being cooped up in this damn apartment all the time. It had been years. He was still small for a twelve-year-old, and scrawny as anything. He never really said much these days, preferring to read because at least then he could pretend to be anywhere else.
Still, there was food now and so he trooped out to the living room where he raised his eyebrow at Jesse as if to say, 'can we eat now?'
Adrian stepped out of the bathroom, toweling his hair off after his second shower that day, and he had been about to welcome Jesse back, when there was a knock at the door.
"Shit! Jayden, Isaiah, hide!" They knew the rules, but it was still a terrifying ordeal every time someone knocked. If they were found out and taken away from Jesse, what would happen to them? "Come on, closet!"
