"No, it's great," he said when she apologised for the size of her home. He meant it too. It was just so nice to be in a place that was hers.
"You don't have to do that," he said, though he had a feeling she was not going to let it slide. "I didn't eat though." Somehow he had forgotten all about food. "So dinner would be nice."
He realised he was speaking in tiny sentences so he cleaned his throat and mirrored her by sticking his hands in his pockets as well. "Fine. Mostly doing work stuff. How has your semester been?" He felt like an ass after he asked since she had been keeping him up to date.
