Charity gasped in pain and fell to her knees, fire spilling through her veins and making it feel like every atom of her body was being torn to pieces. She may have screamed but she couldn't remember later. She could only remember the pain.
She hit the floor of the apartment, back arching and bucking and then she was still - unmoving, unbreathing. Her heart was still but then, with a beat heavy enough to make her gasp, it restarted and Charity dragged a deep breath, staring up at the roof of Lucifer's apartment.
Her hand moved to her throat and she dragged her fingers across her skin. She felt like gold, like rivers of light were trailing across her. When she held her hand in front of her face she swore she saw fire in her fingertips.
"Everything burns," Charity whispered, a smile creeping onto her face as she turned her head and locked eyes with Lucifer.
