this is not goodbye, this is only the end of a chapter.
So here are the true facts, as relayed by me, Emily G. Not to be confused with Emily C., of Elwood fame, or Emily W. (Worth), who is a character here. I love her. Okay.
#1. I am preeeeeeeeeeetty drunk right now, and I am so proud of myself for being able to type. Oddly, the same is not true for my IM conversations. Proof from modchat:
Emily: ture, do now one Emily: for real serious Emily: because Emily: i tisa lot of wek Emily: *work
So, you see, you are very spoiled in getting coherent!Emily.
#2. omfg you guys. you guys are the greatest. you guys are so fucking great, I can't even tell you, so great. I can't. Just. So many of you -- ALL OF YOOOOOOOOOOU - are so great.
#3. no really.
#4. MY CO-MODS ARE THE GODDAMN LIGHT OF MY LIFE. You guys, I know that things have not always been amazing and awesome, and sometimes I have been seriously concerned about hte state of our mutual rhombus friendship, but we are so fucking amazing. Thank all of you players for saying it, it is very appreciated, you have no idea, but it's okay, we know it. we are awesome. and I love us so much. SO MUCH. oh my god, I wish I weren't so drunk so that you could know I mean this SO sincerely. #4a. Except for Ryan, who just went to bed because he is a LOSER. UGH.
#5. Just kidding I love him too.
#6. Did you know, I have spent time in real real life with all of my co-mods? We are all very awesome together. I would show you a picture that Ryan took when I drunkenly passed out on some church steps after he bought me some dranks (intentional typo) in a club, but that requires lucidity that i do not possess and also my underwear is showing so HAHAHAHA that stays between the MODS.
#7. I think I should get back to the sincere love part. Okay. You are all so incredibly talented. Thank you for bringing your talent to Neopolis, and all of your enthusiasm, and all of your love. I know a lot of you are heartbroken that today is the Closing, but look at it this way: we have all participated in the creation of something glorious, that we will treasure for all time. Closing at the natural end -- one year, one full school year, one cycle -- even though we aren't ready to let go of these characters... it means this will forever be golden. FOREVER GOLD, PONY BOY. I mean, yeah, we've had our bumps in the road, but ultimately we've just... made something amazing, and you are all so incredible. I have loved your characters fiercely, and I've loved YOU GUYS fiercely, and I hope that we can all stay together forever in at least some medium, okay? Because we have mad sexy chemistry.
#8. Uhm, this is where I get nostalgic and stuff, but I know Sarah has related the Tale of How it All Began and that Ryan (I Think?) has linked that AWESOME VIDEO, and... idk about Julie, Julie? Julie where are you. Oh my god I am too too drunk.
#9. Thank you. This year has been incredible. Modding has been an amazing, rewarding experience, and even when I was up all hours, risking life and... okay, just risking my job or something, to give you updates for one of our many 'splosions, you have all risen to the occasion SO UNBELIEVABLY, that it has all been utterly, utterly worth it. Drama? Who cares. It is all small fucking potatoes compared to the wonderful community and writing we've come together to create. I love you all, really. Not just the wine talking.
#10. ♥ #10a. lol i am going to regret this in the morning.
CAREER - After graduation - before, technically - Jackie starts her internship with City Hall, going through various departments and learning her stuff. No small number of BHH bigwigs enjoy making her run gopher, but she handles it with grace and poise (all the while making mental notes for future extractions of vengeance). Because of her connections, and because the Doctor and the Mayor want to make good on their promise to be more cooperative, she settles into a permanent position fairly quickly - six months after she starts, even. Around that time, she starts to liaise regularly with League bigwigs on the down-low, strategizing on how to get back the League influence in City Hall that was lost after the mass firings due to her father's acquittal. - Jackie rises through the ranks very swiftly: she is competent, knows how to manipulate people, and has a very valuable 'arrangement' with one Dante Decarabia: she shepherds people into his contracts, he ensures that most obstacles remove themselves from her fast-track path. She never runs for an elected office - she is always appointed as assistant, or campaign manager, or advisor, or something like that. Behind the scenes, but important. She is, of course, still a public figure -- she is Jackie Frost, after all, and the public will always be interested in Jack Frost's daughter. With her influence, more ELE people get positions in City Hall, and policies begin to be more flexible - if not outright biased - towards League agendas. - Eventually she is appointed as liaison between Neopolis and mainland California. This is when she begins to start paving the way for Supers (particularly Leaguers, but in a subtle way, of course) to take part in mainland politics. Nathaniel NeFarious is proof positive when he is elected Senator. - Jackie eventually gets all the way to the Washington as a super/human lobbyist-type. She is a close-hand advisor to Nate, but also a prominent figure in all Neopolitan politics, particularly in relation to mainland connections. She has her finger on the pulse of super-politics, and everyone knows it. She is kind of a grand puppet-master, or something, okay. - Did I mention I was drinking while writing this? - Jackie Frost: woman behind the curtains. Never an official member of the League (that'd look bad and limit her options), she is definitely working for them, and is greatly admired in the Department of Underhanded Schemes.
PERSONAL LIFE: - So, remember how cut-off and distant and 'I am a Rock, I am an Island' Jackie was after Zombiesplosion? That was just a preview of things to come. Although Jackie is definitely cutthroat and ruthless enough to make it in the career she's chosen, it's still very stressful. The first few years are fun in the same vein as her year at Neopolis Academy: she lives in a penthouse with Dani, keeps in touch with her League friends and Snowpack, lives it up post-grad style, etc. (I believe there is the occasional heist involved - Dani's influence.) But gradually she becomes more distant and aloof as the stress of her chosen career path gets to her. - In her late twenties, things are super stressful and she starts to call up her old chess buddy Joe McCreedy more and more. Although they've never been tremendously close, he knows her well enough to know that this is a red flag -- he's seen how distant and shut-off she's been getting, and urges her to open up more and talk about it. She tries, sort of, but kind of just ends up sleeping with him. Of course, she's Jackie Frost, and Jackie Frost doesn't do love or anything approximating it, but at the same time, she can't bring herself to completely cut it off with Joe - they keep meeting, and keep sleeping together, until finally Joe is the one to call an unhealthy relationship for what it is and call it off. - Jackie takes this as an excuse to close that door completely; she never calls up Joe for a game of chess again, and a couple years later, she is so into the Ice Queen thing that Dani confronts her about it... and ends up so hurt from the exchange that she joins the League and moves to NYC to be nemeses with Johnny. (Dani, not Jackie, who is just a frigid bitch back home, doing her frigid bitch thing.) - She never gets to fall in love. She does, of course, have numerous flings - booty calls, really - but nobody manages to melt her icy heart. After all, Nathaniel NeFarious ceased to have a heart after the murder of Connor Calamitous, and you have to keep up with the Joneses, hm? Does this even make sense? I'm surprised I can even type. - HOWEVER!!! At some point Jackie DOES enter a political marriage -- some neutral-ish type beloved by the common people of Neopolis for being so handsome and whatever, I don't know, maybe he manages to walk the line of moderation really well. But like Jackie is "neutral" but really ELE, he's "neutral" but really BHH. Not long after their marriage, the jealous and suspicious of Neopolis start a smear campaign against Jackie - what is she really up to? Where does her true allegiance lie? Etcetera, etcetera. Some cold (lol) cases are brought up - people who might've blocked her rise to power, but mysteriously were indisposed (or disposed of). She handles it well, playing the innocence card (see: Everglades) and shaming them. But just in case... she gets pregnant, and not long after, her beautiful husband dies in a terrible accident. She becomes a very sympathetic figure in the public eye... to most, anyway. There are always those that aren't so easily fooled. - So, she's a single mom, but let's face it, she doesn't raise that fucking kid. Some nannies do. But it is an opportunity for some people to come back into her life -- or at least be a part of her child's life. (A daughter, by the way, named Christina Danielle Frost.) Though starved for her mother's affection, she gets plenty of it from all the people that have loved Jackie in the past. - At some point, Queenie Hero runs for mayor against a candidate that Jackie was grooming and Queenie wins. Also, she somehow finds out about her cheating with Nate (not that she can really talk, since she and Nate had a one-time thing as well -- close quarters as advisor and all that, after all), and out of a mix of a) vengeance for Queenie winning over her candidate, b) plain old cruelty and c) somewhere deep down feeling that Johnny deserved better, she tells Johnny about it. See his 20 years later for more details.
Anyway, point is, Jackie becomes a frigid bitch ice queen that is v. powerful in a behind-the-curtain, puppetmaster sort of way. It is p. sad. And stuff. Also GUYS, I have a CDJ at skycornerless and when I am SOBER I will make more details about Jackie!baby. :)
Okay, so I don't have bullet points. The basics are these: Wendelin slowly - with the help of Alvin, Emily, Elwood, Queenie and others - recovers from the blow of losing Faerie and all its power. She throws herself into her studies (I like to imagine Crowley is a good influence here) and with the help of human magic rituals, is able to channel her remaining magic into a very powerful force to be reckoned with. She causes lots of havoc and grief in her next two years at Neopolis Academy, and continues to do so when she graduates. She is never officially a League member (ha! as if a fairy would concern herself with the silliness of mere humans), but various League members avail themselves of her prodigious talent for hexes and curses (particularly that bit where she can sometimes make things come true by embroidering them), so, you know, she does well for herself.
It takes her a long time to realize that the token she got from Alvin's great-great-great-great-w/e-grandaddy will let her back into Faerie. Emily and the others kept it secret from her -- when Emily started her organization, Wendelin merely assumed it was because of her aunt, Remella - for fear that she'd leave forever and never come back. Crazy as she is, there are those that love her, which just warms the cockles of my heart, okay. Warmed cockles. So nice. ANYWAY, the point is, it takes her about ten years to find out that the token = ticket to Faerie. By then, she has actually MADE CONNECTIONS WITH PEOPLE. Like, emotional ones! There's her past roommates, of course - Queenie and Hildr and I am sure her other roomies loved her just as much, okay, those glamours on the room were fucking awesome - and also, IMPORTANT: #1 - Elwood! Their relationship is, for the most part, always (necessarily) entirely platonic, but she loves to bother him and be fiercely proetective of him, and he, well... loves to be bothered by her. He confesses these affections in the best way he knows how: by entrusting the canopic jar holding his lungs to her. VERY ROMANTIC, RIGHT? Anyway, because he does this, she is able to work some faerie/voodoo (thx, Queenie) magicks to turn him back into a human for a little while. There is some lovin', but then he is a mummy again, and really, she prefers him that way, she was just curious about the lovin' bit.
#2!!!!! She has a NIECELING. This is assuming that Emily is basically her sister, okay. Anyway, there is a NIECELING that is NAMED AFTER HER (see Emily's 20YL!) and so she is very attached!!!
So in the end (but not really the end), she decides that maybe she can hold off Faerie for a little while. She does, after all, have a very long life ahead of her. I KNOW, ISN'T THIS THE GREATEST?
More appropriately: Renbridge 20YL. Julie is writing this because I am too drunk to. :D
