GAME OPEN & MOD ANNOUNCE.

Hello all, and welcome to GAME OPEN!!!!! This game has been a dream of mine for months, and I'm excited to actually have it realized because I thought it would even be feasible at first!

There are a couple announcements and notes to make before we start taking over the comms:

  • When you're posting in any of the comms, particularly [info]neonic and [info]neonet), please remember to tag your posts with your characters and (network excluded) the type of post it is! For those who decide to make IC/OOCs for their events, these go in the IC COMM. If you accidentally add a tag to an entry, let me know and I'll remove it! Tags SHOULD be up to date, but let me know if I've somehow forgotten you or misspelled your character(s) name!

  • The plot calendar for August is coming out TOMORROW. August is going to be lighter in the first three weeks before picking up toward the end of the month. Pcals will always come out on the 1st of the month! Contacts should be finalized by the end of today. All other pages are a little slower, but should be fully updated in a couple days; apologies for any delays! If I should ever miss a question via dropbox or email, please don't be afraid to poke again, because I might have missed it! On that note:

  • You guys have all been great with emailing me and using the Dropbox, but there is another dropbox I'd like to bring to your attention: the Plotbox! This is primarily for event ideas or scenarios rather than fullblown character PLOT ideas, the latter of which should be directed to the mod email for more in-depth discussion.

  • When posting in [info]neonic, remember: there are no userpics and only usernames are displayed. Your character might have to do some asking around if they're looking for a specific person!

  • We have a Discord server! I might be adding more channels within, but for now, there's one big #general chat. Please don't feel obligated to join if you don't want to, as chats aren't for everyone!! If you'd like to add Notes to a specific person in chat, like which characters they play, you can use the Contacts page for reference!

  • Connor, player of Marion, and I are going to be making a couple plotting docs (if you recall Frontlines most recently, like this!) for certain groups: namely the Tracers/SynTech, LAPD, and the Resistance. You'll see these within a week or so! After the FL experience, and my Warrant experience, where things would get lost or drowned out in massive email chains, a question to all of you: what would you prefer as the primary method of contact for groups? Should we make docs for every pcal event? Do emails for work you? Not everyone will be using Discord, so it will be used to make general announcements, not plot reaches.

  • (I mentioned in the last meme that I'll solicit for preferences for meme posting times, but anticipate this question possibly next week; this post is busy enough!)

  • There are some things I've been seeing in the memes that I'd like to clarify on, as well as things that might not have been made clear, and they are as such:

  • Synths CAN drink and eat, but they have no means or need to digest food the way we do. There is a drainage system for liquids, but solid foods would need to come back up, though fortunately it's not as awful as how we have to throw up.

  • Synths don't technically sleep; they go into sleep mode, which is like a sleep where their systems are humming but not operating at full capacity, like a computer. It's in this state that woken Synths can experience memories in the form of dreams, particularly the long-awake A1s or previously wiped 2Bs. Just residual glitches, really. When they are shut down, they don't experience these at all.

  • Synths DO NOT need a device to be communicated with. They don't have physical devices; they literally are the device. You can't text them the traditional way, but any messages on the network will filter directly to them like a text!

  • Synth crime is not rampant. You don't hear about crime every day in the news! There's enough of it to warrant a department in the LAPD, though it's not everywhere you go. What you do hear on TV or the radio more often are reminders from SynTech to please return your 2B to the nearest SynTech clinic if your Synth exhibits any signs of the Cogito virus. These clinics are like high tech repair shops, for the record!

  • If anyone has wondered why A1s can live semi-public lives but not have been caught by the Tracers, since the A1s tend to have temperature modulators and fake identities which enable facial recognition, they aren't alerted to SynTech. Until you crack them open or they bleed mechanical fluids, there's no real definitive way to tell, hence the investigations and hunts. They are very good at hiding in plain sight.

I think that's it. I hope that's it. If that is not it, please feel welcome to comment below with anything to add or clarify! There are no important network posts planned from me, so go ahead and post if you like β€” I'll throw stuff up shortly! Happy playing!!!!

i think gdocs work best for like, specific events but in my experience, general group gdocs tend to never get updated/ignored/etc. so idk! this is unhelpful!

I prefer email, but don't mind a gdoc.

i think a combo of gdocs and emails would work! esp if there was someone to keep the doc updated

I'm with Rae on this; it always seems like GDocs don't necessarily stay up-to-date over time. However, if it's plot-specific, I think GDocs would work since it's all in one place and doesn't take over your email. Email updates can be sent out when there are particular spots/thoughts for people to weigh in on?

imo gdocs if there's designated auxiliaries to update (like submod but literally only for the group gdoc?) a filtered group post on the mod journal that everyone has to track could also potentially work

I am not a fan of email chains for extended plotting, mainly because I usually wake up to a saturated inbox and it's difficult to follow along at that point. I prefer a few emails to get things rolling, then carrying it on to a gdoc where everyone picks their font color and chats that way. I do recognise that gdocs can then be forgotten, but maybe if the player(s) who is spearheading a particular plot takes charge and acts as a mini-mod? idk!

I like gdocs but where everyone emails notifications when they update them so you can get a notif when there's changes but not actually have to read your emails

I like gdocs for specific plots, but not for general things (like "The Resistance") because the latter, in my experience, almost always gets ignored.

Brainstorming email chains with more than a handful of people are a struggle for me.

I prefer gdocs, so long as they're being actively maintained and not left at the wayside! I tend to find long email chains a bit overwhelming to keep up, and it's easier to visualize if all the info is in one place (like a doc!).

I love gdocs; I always wake up to long email chains of 60+ messages when it’s on email and it’s just stressful

Jumping in late to say that I'd be fine with either, with some caveats to address a few of the issues people understandably have with both! I think e-mails work best if the plotting is going to be quick and immediate, as long as there are only a few e-mails; at some point, if it's going to be a flood, it should probably be moved to a doc. I think docs are best for long-term planning and plotting where you want a lot of information in one place, but people need to keep on top of it by using the e-mail feature to notify people if something is updated or a response is needed somewhere.

I'm probably doing something wrong here, but when I try to use the chat invite link, Discord tells me the code is either invalid or expired. Is there a way to fix that?
