Harry abominated doctors. He had spent far too much time under their care and too much time visiting equally injured friends after the war. Visiting a doctor even once, let alone regularly, was way near the bottom of his list of ‘fun things to do,’ right after ‘root canal,’ ‘surgery,’ ‘breaking up with someone,’ and ‘killing Dark Lords.’ Yep, Harry hated doctors.
Unfortunately, his current condition meant that he’d be seeing a whole lot of them again. Weekly, at the very least, for months. Oh joy of joys.
It was entirely his fault, naturally. Well, not entirely.
After all, getting pregnant does require a sperm donor as well. Severus had been quite… enthusiastic about helping with that. And with brewing the correct potions. Literally dozens of potions: potions to create a uterus and eggs, potions to force his body to accept the fetus, potions to prevent his body from destroying the uterus…
They had agreed to have a child (Harry grinned as he thought of his subterfuge). However, Severus was too old to safely carry a child to term. It wasn’t even a consideration. His body, at forty-five, could not undergo the changes necessary to bear a child even if he wasn’t severely damaged from twenty years of war (and thousands upon thousands of Cruciatus curses).
So it was clear that it absolutely had to be Harry who would be pregnant.
Harry had forgotten, when he had tried to convince Severus to have a child, that being pregnant required seeing doctors frequently.
Severus, who abominated doctors at least as much as Harry did, went faithfully to every single visit without a complaint.
Harry was glad for that. Hormones made him bitchy enough as it was; he didn’t need Severus being nasty, too.
“Harry, are you ready?” Severus asked. “We have to go visit Poppy now.”
Harry sighed and looked down at his once-flat stomach. At least he liked Poppy, which was more than he could say for some of the specialists he had to see throughout the course of his pregnancy.
He smiled slightly. He really did want a child.
He just hated going to doctors.
“Coming, Sev!” he called.
They entered the Infirmary. Poppy cast the spell over his abdomen and smiled. “Your daughter’s developing well for a seven-month-old fetus.” She ended the spell and smiled at the identical goofy grins Harry and Severus were wearing at the sight of their daughter.
“Harry,” Poppy said finally. “I need to draw some blood again.”
Harry groaned. He hated needles almost as much as he hated doctors. Apparently, for all the magic and potions in the wizarding world, they still needed to draw blood just like Muggles. Blast it.
“How much?” Harry asked reluctantly. “And for what?”
“Two vials. I need to check your blood sugar and your red blood cell count.” Her face softened. “Two more months, Harry.”
Severus smiled at Harry. “It’ll be worth it,” he promised.
Harry smiled back at Severus. “I know. I just… abominate doctor’s visits.”
