"You're welcome," he said with an easy smile in return, and then gestured for Ira to choose from the remaining two. He ended up left with the Pear Tart, which was fine by him. He could do with the fruit, to be honest.
He settled back onto the couch after distributing the drinks as well, and laughed as he inelegantly popped a piece of pear in his mouth with his fingers. "God no. There's a local bakery that has so many goodies. I wouldn't even bother trying to compete."
"Third's daddy works there," Alida explained excitedly. She had such a soft spot for the three year old boy. Theo, however, gave a little grump noise and viciously attacked a swan wing with his teeth.
"Third goes to daycare with the kids," Staas explained, but then changed subjects, so as to keep Theo in a proper party mood. "Anyway we have some decent desserts at work, but nothing quite like this. The closest we have are the sopapillas. Those are pretty damned tasty."
"Swear jar, Daddy."
"Don't talk with your mouth full, baby." But he nodded at her as well, telling her he still had his running total going.
