"I grew up in this house," Jesse informed Sam after he'd gotten out of the car and hit the button on his keychain to lock it up. He shoved the keys back into the pocket of his coat and headed up the path to the front door.
He opened the door, gestured for Sam to head in before him, and then stepped inside, shutting the door behind them. He could tell his mom had done some cleaning for their visit, even though he'd told her that she really didn't have to. (Now that he didn't live there, the place was hardly as messy as it used to be.)
Jesse shrugged out of his coat then, hanging it on the rack beside the door. While he waited for Sam to do the same, he couldn't help but grin. There were definite video game sounds emanating from the living room, where he figured Jamie was probably the culprit. "Come on," he said, placing a hand on Sam's back to lead him down the hallway towards the kitchen. "Mom!" He called out loudly, though it was with a bit of a laugh. She had undoubtedly heard them enter.
Joann was standing at the stove, checking a pot of something or other, though she looked over with a bright smile at the two of them. She was a pleasant-looking woman, with dark brown hair and light eyes. "You're a little early," she said, sounding quite surprised at the fact. "You must be Sam," she next added on, moving towards them.
"Yup," Jesse answered for him. "Sam, this is my mom. Uh, I guess you can call her Joann."
