Staas listened intently as Ira talked about the club, asking questions every so often, especially about the music. It didn't sound like the kind of place he used to frequent at all--he'd preferred loud, noisy concert venues and dive bars--but it seemed pretty cool nonetheless. A bit more trendy, perhaps, than he would choose, but perhaps more in keeping with his life now than his older choices.
He teased Ira for a bit about wanting to go back, asking him if he'd seen a bunch of hot hipsters there, but eventually letting it go by saying he'd go with him, some day. Preferably on a live music day, if the band line-up wasn't pretentious enough to make him want to hurl.
When Ira switched topics on him, it took a moment for Staas' brain to keep up. "Oh. Dude. No, I know. I got you." He shrugged as they moved a bit closer to the walkway to the cheerful building. "It is a big deal, but I wouldn't do it if I thought you couldn't handle it or didn't want to do it or whatever. I know you'll take it seriously, which is why I asked you. And, um." He bit at his lipring, pulling it between his teeth for a moment and worrying at it. "This is just the school and stuff, but they need somewhere to go if I can't get here for some reason."
He'd totally chickened out. Later, he told himself. He'd ask Ira about the possibilities of legalities and wills and guardianship later. They had lots of time. Staas had no plans to go anywhere just yet.
"I'm glad you're doing it. It's nice to have backup. I mean, I'm not going to call you all the time, asking you to get them for me or anything. But just in case."
