Violet felt just terrible about her freak out over her journal, but she couldn't help herself. She wasn't exactly terrified of the dark, she just didn't like it. In the dark, things tended to go bump in the night and with a love for suspenseful movies, a belief in ghosts, an overactive imagination, PLUS lights that just wouldn't come on? Yeah, she wasn't doing very well. She wanted someone to stay with her, but she really, really hated that Elliot was going to try and brave the elements to keep her company.
What made her feel even worse was that her freak out was over nothing. The moment Violet calmed down over the sudden darkness and common sense returned, she realized there were several lights, in the form of candles. She really hated to use the candles on her alter, but in an emergency, she couldn't be picky. As soon as the morning came, she'd go out to replace the candles that were used but, for now, she couldn't walk around in complete darkness.
Since she didn't need any lights, there really wasn't ANY reason why Elliot should make the walk, except for sure selfishness. If he was willing to make the trip over, then she'd be more than happy to see him. They hadn't seen each other in a few days and if a power outage was the reason for him to come over, then she'd take it. Hopefully he wouldn't be too annoyed with her when he found out she didn't really NEED him over, and she swore she'd make it up to him for his trouble. They were dating, right? Isn't that what people did for each other when they were going out? If he had been freaked out over the power going out, she would have gone over to see him.
The least Violet could do was wait for him downstairs to save him from freezing while she sat in her still warm apartment, listening for the doorbell. She sat on a chair from the bookshop, waiting by the door with a thick blanket wrapped around her shoulders. The moment Elliot rang the doorbell, Violet jumped up to open the door. "Come in, come in, come in," she hurriedly said, keeping the door open only long enough for him to enter. God, it was freezing out there. "Here, take your shoes and coat off so we can go upstairs. Are you okay?"
