Who: Madeline Morovoz and Sofie Collins Where: La Palette Galerie When: Tuesday in lieu of classes, afternoon What: Job Interview Rating: PG
Madeline wanted a job. She did not exactly want to work, nor did she want to take the time out of studying, but it was suggested to her that she have job experience before graduating. That information, so carelessly handed over by her career adviser, sent her into a frenzy of activity and fretting. She needed a job, and she needed one yesterday.
In the modern market, there was little she could do on her own to acquire one, except fill out forms and make follow up calls. If all else failed, she thought, it would be possible for her to join Melina at her job. Her sister would be able to put in a good word for her, if Madeline asked. She did not want to ask. She did not want to work with children. They were vomiting, defecating, and wailing messes that made her cringe to even imagine to be around. Madeline knew how her sister smelled after she came home, a mix of foul and clean scents that cling to her clothes. That made Madeline more sure than ever that she did not want to work there.
So she put it down as a last resort.
She was having her first break, in that she the message she left with La Palette Galerie was returned. The proprietor asked her to come in, and she was eager to. Since there did not seem to be a paper application, she only called to inquire if the job was still open. Twisting her curly hair back into a low chignon, stabbing the thick knot of hair with many pins to keep it in place, she finished off her professional attire with a dab of makeup. It was the same clothes that she wore to her college interview, although she lost weight since then.
Her clothes were stylish in a modest, professional way. Thankfully, professional clothes did not seem to have a particular style that went out of mode quickly. She would not have to purchase any new pencil skirts or silk blouses until after college, she hoped. Despite the weather, she walked, slipping and sliding down the sidewalk. She warmed up in the coffeehouse before heading upstairs to the gallery.
