Who? Alan and Kate
When? Wednesday Afternoon
Where? Station; their respective desks
What? Alan is almost done with his daily cleaning of his desk, and decides that Kate's desk could do with some.
Rating PG? (to be safe, idk)
Before leaving his apartment earlier this afternoon, Alan Ridley had checked the weather. Later, it was supposed to peak at a hundred degrees, which was why a rant (rather, a well-thought out public service announcement) on heatstroke prevention was apt. He had collected those notes too, before leaving. The heat was smoldering, and he supposed he could have dressed in something more weather appropriate. But like Alan's growing smoke habit, he never heeded his own warnings; there was a very few physicians that ever did. Besides, his car had newly-reinstalled air conditioning.
As usual, he arrived early to give his desk its routine cleaning. It was a routine that he adhered to every day because Alan was a man of habit and he just liked habit. And in his opinion, a lot of people could do very well to pick up such a habit. Alan was trying to drag out the process, but even he had limits. What was clean was already clean.
It was at that moment when he looked up and spotted the desk across the room from his. The desk belonged to Kate Stone who did the morning traffic reports and her desk always annoyed him, because while it wasn't exactly a full-on pigsty, there were files everywhere, and she could do with throwing out some of those cups and cans. Alan normally left her desk alone because he knew she stuck around after her shift to see Brendan (Brendan, who was a whole other can of worms, but anyway). Her desk looked abandoned now, and Alan meant no harm. He just wanted to throw out some of the cans and cups, and maybe rearrange some of the files. A clean working environment was a healthy environment. She'd probably even thank him.
Alan picked his way over to her desk and surveyed the mess. He supposed he should start small. This was her space, after all, but honestly, all he wanted to do was help out.
