Okay, this couldn't be that hard.
He'd solved math problems before. Probably. Well, actually he usually got them wrong...but this one should be easy. Like riding a bicycle, if you'd never ridden a bike before. He just had to remember the formula. This was one of those annoying train problems. Train A, traveling 40 mph, leaves Topeka at 4:19 p.m. heading toward Cleveland, 758 miles away. Two hours and 17 minutes later, Train B, traveling 70 mph, leaves Cleveland heading toward Topeka. When do the two trains meet? Honestly, someone ought to post the answers to every possible train problem in existence on the internet somewhere.
This wouldn't be so hard if his math teacher wasn't a former swimsuit model. Doh! How long were those legs anyway? From Topeka to Cleavage. I mean Cleveland. Tristan sat at his desk scribbling nonsense and sneaking peeks at Ms. Reddington while the seconds ticked away and he grew closer to failing yet another test. The other students seemed to have no trouble; no one was looking anywhere but down at his own paper when Tristan looked around the room. Okay, I can do this. No, really.
Maybe it was just the idea of math. Perhaps it would help if he considered it from another angle. Like poetry.
Life is like a train
leaving Topeka in the rain
at 4:19 and 40 miles per hour
only to find that Cleveland has no power.
Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.
One Monday, two trains left the station, one from Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. going 35 mph. They never reached their destination. Can you find them? Try your skill in Train Wreck, the ultimate shooter.
