Miranda realized she should probably dial back the curiosity since Mona had just spent part of her day with Mama, who was never short on questions, but she hadn’t known what else to say, and she was interested to know how a courthouse wedding worked. “Then I’ll keep all my questions to myself until you have things ironed out,” she replied with a small smile, “I’ll make a list so I won’t forget them,” she finished in a light, teasing tone.
“I didn’t want you to feel obligated to have me there,” she defended her reasoning softly. She hadn’t meant any offense by it, but sometimes it was still difficult for her to read her sister. “But I will absolutely be your witness, or stand for you or however it works,” she added quickly, already making herself a mental note to check into how it worked on her own; it might not hurt, and maybe she could pass along any information she found to Mona, save her sister a few steps if she could. “I haven’t actually been involved in too many weddings, so it’s all a bit foreign to me.” Only a handful of her college friends had been married so far, and she hadn’t been close enough to any of them to be included in their wedding parties. "How did Daddy take it? You mentioned that you told him before Mama."
