This was something that should have been done a month ago. The fact that it hadn't was very nearly inexcusable, and the way Maria felt, she wasn't much inclined to give much leeway even for the fact that they'd been invaded by Frost Giants and subsequently had winter decent on them all. It was only because the crime scene techs had kept working on the assignment, in their moments between winter crises, that she let them live and remain at their current pay grade.
They'd assembled a general report on what happened, but questions still remained; not in the slightest was the question as to where Superman was. He'd dropped off the face of the world, which she admitted was an impressive feat for a shiny boy scout who didn't even wear a mask.
She had an idea of where he was - or at least who knew where he was. Or, if absolutely nothing else, could find him. She just really didn't want to admit that she needed his help. It was galling, not in the least that the best case scenario was that he'd be smug and difficult about it; the worst case was that he'd refuse to help on whatever principle.
She knew she was being stubborn for the sake of it; she knew what she had to do. She just resisted as long as she could. And even then, she made sure that she was in her quarters, alone, with the door firmly shut. He'd called on her personal phone before, and she'd kept the number - or at least the weird contact that had popped up on it. "This had better work, because I am not using the Batsignal again," she grumbled, and hit redial.
