RIDDLER SAVES WOMAN FROM BURNING CAR by Thomas Lendquist Recently, Mr. Nygma was released, legally from Arkham, and had appeared to have taken up a different kind of lifestyle, one of a private detective. And last night, in the hours just before midnight, he took on the role of a hero. Maria Thayer had been driving home from work when the brakes in her car failed. With the roads still filled with snow, it made for an instant disaster. According to eyewitnesses, the car sailed through a red light at high speed and crashed sideways along another car, spinning it around and flipping it over completely. Smoke was seen rising from the vehicle, and soon after flames. While onlookers called for police and fire assistance, Mr. Nygma appeared at the scene, onlookers saying that he had just stepped out from a nearby bar at the time of the crash. "This man in a green jacket goes running for the car, and yanked open the door," Kenneth Bakerson reported. "I didn't know who it was at first, but he was trying to get her out of there. And the flames were starting to get bigger and there was more smoke everywhere. We thought he might die too, but then suddenly, he's coming out of the smoke with her in his arms." Others at the scene along with Mr. Baker then recognized the man as the notorious career criminal Edward Nygma, The Riddler. Nygma handed the unconscious female off to another man at the scene before disappearing. According to the police report, Mr. Nygma was not on scene when police arrived, and has been unavailable for questioning by either police or the press. Nygma had recently been assumed to be the source behind a bomb planted at a therapists office, and the subsequent death of the therapist after an explosion. He was later cleared of all charges. |
