Spider-Man Visits Hospital by Joseph Lelyveld While Sparrow spent quite a bit of her time in the New York-Presbyterian's new high tech neonatal center (donated by Nashton Tech), talking with parents and visiting with the newborns; Partner, Spider-Man was dragged into a three on three basketball match, using several web slinging tricks to bring his team to the needed ten points to win (even as he claimed that all the kids were winners as he handed out plushie versions of himself). At Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, the pair hosted a pizza party, full of specially catered treats from Majestic Pizza and Once Upon a Tart. Following, the pair toured the facility, spending time with several more patients and their families who were too sick to join in the festivities, before giving several donations that they had raised from private donors. They finished out their day by visiting Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, where they created a web based jungle gym for the kids to enjoy, and as always, posing for a multitude of photo and autographs, finding hugs to be a great form of medicine for any disease. Only three questions from the media were allowed during the day, the duo preferring to focus on the children and their enjoyment rather than the attending cameras. When asked about his new partner, Spider-Man replied, "Everyone needs a friend watching their back.", on their reasons for visiting, Sparrow claimed she "was inspired by Superman." and when queried on future plans, Spider-Man mentioned visiting several more children's hospitals over the month, while Sparrow spoke of wanting to visit schools and libraries in several under-served neighbor hoods in New York and Gotham, hopefully with donations in hand so that all the children could experience the joy of reading and adventure. There was also talk of arranging a "Children's Day" in Central Park with several concerts, performances and other events, but no concrete plans have yet been set. Both heroes also asked that everyone reading set aside at least five minutes to spend time with a child, whether reading, playing or just talking. |
